According to the game’s definition of an island, Japan can scramble aircraft because it is totaly surrounded by one sea zone.

Tank Question
Can you combine a tac. bmbr. and a mech. inf. with one tank to get the attack and blitz bonus or does each one have to have a tank with it?

Idaho…..anyone?
I’m looking for players in Idaho that play Revised, AA42, AA50, or AA40. Anyone out there?

RE: Favorite Power?
Usually I like the US because they are safe from invasion, but the decisions you make will likely decide how the allies fare as a whole. Plus, it’s great to see the face of the axis players as you start to invade southern Europe from Africa and the UK all the while building bombers to decimate the Japanese navy. $80+ a turn is pretty awesome.

Soviet / Japanese Non-Aggression
I noticed that in the rule book (p.33), that the Soviet and Japanese players can work out their own policies for a non-aggression treaty. Has anyone actually drawn out an agreement or have they just played it out like previous versions? If you have made such an agreement, was it considered unbreakable or was there some kind of penalty, etc. for breaking the policy?

Favorite Power?
Just curious to see if things have shifted from the results of AA50. If you could, please give a brief explanation of why. Or if you picked France or China, a very detailed reason :-D.

Idaho Players?
I have a small group of friends in Mountian Home, ID that get together and play, but a few of them are moving away so we may be short on players pretty soon. Are there any A&A groups in Idaho?

RE: American Navy
I like building up an airforce consisting of mainly bombers (buying 1 bomber each turn for 3-5 turns) with a few fighters thrown in once you can afford it and sending them to Australia once war is declared while slowly building up a navy that will eventually start island hoping starting with Okinawa and Iwo Jima. This slows the India crush, helps UK hold the DEI and makes the Japanese player think twice before moving his navy to the south pacific. Once Japan has lost those expensive carriers, their islands are easy prey.

RE: US Strategy?
Again, thanks for the help guys. Hopefully the next game we have will result in an allied victory. :-D

RE: US Strategy?
Thanks for the help and detailed answers. Looking back at the game we had, I think our downfall was the fact that UK and US did not coordinate landings like Zhukov stated. We only had four players so UK was controlled by the Russian player. However, my problem remains: What should the US do with Japan? Is the name of the game capture Berlin before Japan becomes a real threat?
By the way, the lend lease and mech. inf. I was talking about earlier are the national advantages. The last time we played, each player picked two abilities by rolling dice. We decided next time that we were going to play with all six for each country.
For the sake of debate, does anyone have a proven KJF strat?

RE: US Strategy?
8 transports sounds great but that would take many turns to set up if you are buying units to defend them right? Also, I would still be leaving Japan alone. I guess you could use Africa as a way to challenge Japan via India. However, once the units land in Africa it would take them 3 turns to arrive because of the mech. inf. ability supported by tanks.
One of my friends had an idea of using a conveyor belt to take Norway from Eastern Canada, then building an IC there. Norway would be much easier to hold and could act as a staging ground to reinforce Russia. If you use Russia’s lend lease ability, this may allow them to throw more resources towards Japan and stall their advance.
SO MANY OPTIONS! :?

US Strategy?
Last week, I played my first game as the US and I wasn’t exactly sure what direction to take. I utimately went for Germany by building a fleet over three turns that would allow me to use a “conveyor belt” and land 4-6 troops in Algeria every turn. By turn five, I had taken Southern Europe (although Germany took it back next turn) and Germany was eliminated completely from Africa. UK was picking away at Western Europe and Norway while Russia was holding their ground on their western front. Between trading Western Europe/Norway and Southern Europe every turn, plus UK and US industrial bombing, Germany was all but defeated. However, since Japan was left virtually untouched, they ended up taking India by turn six and broke through into eastern Russia ultimately ending in a capture of Moscow at turn ten. I wasn’t too disappointed by the outcome because it was probably the most even match I’ve ever played. However, I’m convinced that it was my fault as the US player because I left Japan alone, but I dont see how I could have effectively challenged them without letting Germany overrun Europe. I told my friends that next time we play I want to give US another try but I’m still not sure what direction to take. Any help?

Transport question
I have a quick question: Can a transport take it’s two movement points and then “bridge” units? i.e. a japanese transport moves into the sea zone surrounding japan using its two movements and then bridges units into china.

RE: Scrambling - Too strong?
One thing I can’t understand is why some people devote so much time to finding holes in the game that THEY believe are unfair and complaining about them. Just try playing the game and enjoying a different version of A&A than before. Put yourself in the designers’ place. It is impossible to please everyone and you can’t just keep producing games with the same rules everytime. I’m not saying that this game is flawless, but maybe more time spent trying to find a suitable strategy to combat scrambling would be more constructive.

Plastic Figures
Does anybody know a good place to buy alternate plastic infantry pieces that are unpainted and the same size as the original AA ones? I would just like to have some with different poses, etc. I haven’t looked that hard I admit, but all the ones that I’ve found so far are too big.

Idea for US
During one of our many games of AAP40, my friends and I were tossing around wants and ideas for the world game and we came up with an interesting rule for the US. Since the “lend-lease” program was such a big part of America’s role, once a turn the US player can buy 3 inf, 1 inf and 1 art, or 1 tnk and place these units in any allied capital or in a chineese territory and they become part of that power’s forces. We thought it would put a new interesting spin on things. What do you guys think?

Favorite Power?
Just curious what power everyone likes to play as. Personally I can’t decide between Japan and ANZAC. Japan because they are a power house, and ANZAC because they are the underdog.
