RE: Can the USSR stand alone in AA50?
Admiral, did you play with NO’s ?
WIth NO’s , I definitely think Germany is too strong for Russia.
W/o NO’s , haven’t played that yet… -
RE: Can the USSR stand alone in AA50?
to worry about japan at all, it can bring every unit towards Germany.
It will then be impossible for Germany to breach it. That would then be way too tough for the Germans. They already have a hard time imo.I don’t think that’s true. If any Russians loiter in East Russia, trying to stem the Jap horde, they will be slaughtered by J:s mighty airforce. Japan need only bring in 2-3 landunits , to crush anything the russian can muster in east russia.
Better moves those russians west! -
RE: Can the USSR stand alone in AA50?
Oh no, Gallo, Russian surely cannot stand alone…
For one, a sound KGF from Round 1 is the only way to go for the allies imho.Japan will drive to Moscow in aa50 also, but it’ll take some extra time. jap ftrs will defend CAU and BER, just like in AAR.

How to re-balance the -41 Scenario (team effort!)
OK, it does seem like the Axis are having a quite big advantage, in the -41 setup.
I am assuming a No-Tech game, using NO’s and OOB rules.I want a balanced game, which is challenging no matter which side you play. AA50 is such an improvement in many ways, compared to other AA versions (added more units, better sub rules, better sbr rules, better tech rules, beautiful map, adding BOTH Italy & China etc etc), what I really want this baby to shape up and become the game that I want to love…
At the same time, I’d like to adhere to KISS , in tweaking the game. I want something simple, that does not break with the original spirit of the gamerules.
My suggestions are as follows , but please add you own! Our goal is to improve the game here!
1) Bidding
Bidding is the most obvious way to re-balance, since that’s what we been doing since 2nd ed…
I suggest an Allied Fullplacement bid of 12. That’s 2 inf EGY and 2 inf KAR
But I’m unsure as to what would be an effective bid level. The game is very big, and the TUV on board2) Tweaking NO’s
Some thoughts :- Japan looses 1-3 NO’s before gameplay.
- Italy does not get any NO’s (it feels as they are a tad bit too strong in the OOB setup)
3) Starting Techs
This is an etablished balancing trick from 2nd ed…
Some suggestions (use one or more of the following)- Jet fighters for UK and/or US
- Improved shipyards for UK and/or US
- Long range aircraft for UK and/or US
…just drop your thoughts! I think we all want this game to be a success, so let’s make a team effort to ensure that it is a success…

RE: MY review
So, the OOB gameplay of this AA game is imbalanced: what’s new with that? :-D
Remember 2nd Ed or AAR !
Whine & curse about it´- then get over it , and suggest your solutions! -
RE: So, do you ignore Japan completely?
Ok, I’ve been around for some 15-20 years of AA or so, but …. 38 Battleships ? :? :-o
Say no more…! -
RE: Any Hope of Making CHINA a REAL 7th Player Nation?
I’ve played 3 games of AA50.
My advice would be to let China produce 1 inf/territory (not 1inf/2 territories), for each territory that it owns in the Collect Income Phase (not in the Purchase Units phase).
That way you keep within the spirit of the OOB rules, just beefing China up a bit. -
RE: It arrived!
Wow, this game was designed in USA, it was printed in China , and the first market to release the game is Austria…
Talk about an unexpected Marketing move by WOTC :-D -
RE: Some set ups availible for AA50
I added up the Russian unit setup to an Abattlemap file. No surprises so far , however…
-
RE: Some set ups availible for AA50
No, it simply means that it’s a US fighter piece. The fighter is controlled by China and moves and attacks with Chinese forces.
OK, that statement made me slightly confused … Why isn’t it just a chinese ftr piece? If it is a US ftr piece you risk mixing it up with other US ftr pieces…
Ok, I understand that the real-life unit was made up of US Nationals, but I still think it will confuse players more than clarify anything, don’t you think :? :?

RE: Some set ups availible for AA50
Generally, I’m skeptic to house rules too, but I don’t view bidding as that kind of house rule, if you know what I mean…
So you think the standard 50/50 preplacement bid rule will prevail also in AA50?
Well, I suppose chances are big that it will… It’s a system that is known to most people, and that is rather easy to explain. The number of threads on this site, concerning “How do bids work?” (and god knows I’ve written a few myself :-) ), stands to prove that you need a rather simple & intuitive system in place, in order for it to be generally accepted & understood.

RE: IC in india?
IL posted in the general AA50 forum, and the thread is here:
http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?p=17222181#post17222181
They drop 1 country definite setup per day. Right now they’ve only done US & China. Tomorrow it is time for Soviet Union…

RE: Some set ups availible for AA50
Yeah, if we’re talking w/o NO’s, then I’m with you - hands down!
We played tech - but I don’t think that it had an actual impact. However, wheter or not to do NO’s, is of course huge…
Maybe a no tech, no NO game, Axis definitely need a bid….
What about:
- Each player bid how many NO’s he want in order to play the Axis…
- NO’s are selectable after the bid is won…
Can’t judge wheter or not this is a satisfactory bid system, but it would be interesting to test…

RE: Some set ups availible for AA50
Subotai -
you & me are maybe holding opposite beliefs here …
I played three games of AA50 (41 scen), using the Gencon setup. We found that the AXIS held the advantage, not the Allies…
Of course three games between the same two players doesn’t give enough information as to wheter the game is balanced or not. But we sure had a hard time handling Japan & Germany both at 50+ IPC after round 3… :-)EDIT: No, make that, after round 2, btw

RE: IC in india?
Finally the final setups are about to be released…1 country/day 10-14 Nov.
However, the US & China setup didn’t bring any more allied units into the Pac/Asian theatre, so we’ll have to hope for the UK setup to beef up the Allies … -
RE: Some set ups availible for AA50
@Subotai:
What does it mean: Yunnan: 1 infantry, 1 fighter (US). It means that the fighter is owned by the US? So China does not have any own fighters?
Hmmmm…
It sure seems like it is owned by the US, and if that is the case, then the ftr can’t help any chinese units on attack (since China & US has different Combat Movement phases AFAIK).China is truly hosed in the -41 setup :-D
-
RE: Some set ups availible for AA50
I got to say that I was quite surprised to see the US/China setups…Especially those for -41.
I don’t expect much news from the Soviet setup, but at least I hope that Japan & UK has some tweaks, from the setups that we knew earlier. -
RE: Some set ups availible for AA50
It seems like the Setup for US in 1941 was actually correct then…
Anyhow, for you who couldn’t be bothered to read through all those setup charts, I’ve mapped up the setup in Abattlemap files. Now updated with the following country setups:
- US/China

RE: New AA50 Image!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They sure messed up the setup bigtime in this pic.
Russian bmbs, trns & brits in poland. No, I wouldn’t play with this setup :-)
