Thats fine, I’ll just do two versions then and on the version I post for you guys to take a copy off, I’ll leave the coloring exactly the same values as it is now on the current version! :)

RE: New Axis & Allies Global War Variant (free map)
Hey Craig,
I think the reason may be the printer, I am printing it on a very high resolution, digital, wide-format printer with glossy photo paper, at which point the paper is then laminated. The map you saw that I printed needs to be rolled into a tube, it will not fold or bend, also, you can wash it with soap/water/windex/etc., it will last decades…
So I think the process of printing makes things a bit darker and shiny looking on the final print.

RE: New Axis & Allies Global War Variant (free map)
I agree on the logo for Italy, no problem… Some of the colors were a little too dark on the map (in the opinions of all the gamers in my group that played), and the UK territory seemed to have a pinkish/orange color to it, where as the pieces were tan, also Germany was a bit too dark, overall not bad, but those are comments that were made when compared to the actual A&A pieces used to play, and I agreed with everyone that it would be nicer if the map more closely matched the pieces. :)

Thanks pdel21, does everyone think that is a good idea, and should China be a different color than the green it is now?

OK, if those mistakes are final in those two posts and there are no others, I’ll use those two emails as the list of corrections.
Thanks,

RE: New Axis & Allies Global War Variant (free map)
Well guys, the bottom line is I’ll be redoing the map regardless (unless the original creator or Pointstronic wants to do it), because my gaming group did have a lot of fun.
So go ahead and compile all the changes and I’ll take the orders, I wont start the map itself until after the holidays becasue I am too busy, so no rush to iron out the details this week, that will put us in FEB. before we’ll have printed maps, so we will be doing good.

RE: New Axis & Allies Global War Variant (free map)
I would be more than willing to make the modifications/edits to the map, including altering terriroty colors, fixing the names that are wrong, etc. I am a commercial artist, and have been working professionally in the field for about 17 years, so I have the ability and computer software to easily edit this. I actually converted the Paint Shop files from Positronica into Photoshop Files (I work in Photoshop CS2 and Illustrator CS2).
If you all would like to discuss the changes, agree upon what needs to be done, and send me the master change list, I’ll go in and redo the map, but it wont happen until after the first of the year because I have other projects that I am doing now for clients.
Since there should be no discussion over mis-spelled countries, please send me that info first.
Also, DER PANZINATOR mentioned he had the original vector line art file that POSITRONICA used to create this map, I would like to get a copy of that if possible to work from because the map that POSITRONICA did was only 200 dpi, so it is slightly grainy/fuzzy and not crisp and clean like it should be.
I also have a wide format printer, I can print 4’ wide by however long this map needs to be. So for instance, I can do a single 4’x8’ sheet, and would be happy to do prints for everyone here when complete for my COST PLUS SHIPPING!!! I dont want/need/ask for any extra money for profit, I have a gaming group here in Central Florida, so I’d be more than happy to network with other gaming groups and share my capabilities, so long as I am not losing money I am happy…
Thanks,

RE: New Axis & Allies Global War Variant (free map)
You are correct, it was pretty much the same “piece density” as a normal axis and allies revised game, which was not bad, and not a problem to play, but could have been larger… The only real set-up problems were England and Berlin.
I used the cards provided with the map that are linked in a message at the start of this thread, all of the info is there and the cards are there and able to be printed out, etc., so that is where you will find the info.
Like I had said, everyone in our group agreed that the Allies were at slightly too great of an advantage with troops and income, but not horribly bad, a few minor adjustments would really help.

RE: New Axis & Allies Global War Variant (free map)
This past weekend we had our gaming group session where we used the big map thatI got from Positronica on this forum. It worked out great! The game went pretty well, although it seemed a little too strong on the Allies side. I played Italy because it was new and I wanted to try it out, I did pretty well in Africa and holding the Med. Sea. A lot of fun was had by all. The game started at 10am and the Axis threw in the towel around 8pm that night, so it was a good 10 hour session… it could have gone on a few more hours, and everyone agreed that there was a SLIM chance the Axis might have been able to get a victory, but it wasn’t one that anyone felt like playing to find out! haha.
The only thing I would do on the map for our next session is enlarge it a little more than I had it, as you can see from the photos, I sized it for my dining room table, but I could go another 6" or more and it would still fit, as it was now the only two trouble spots were Berlin and all of England, just too small to fit all the pieces, everywhere else was ok though… The only thing I would change on the deployment/country cards would be to either give the axis slightly more troops/money, or lower down the allies, specifically the USA, they dominated the entire game, which is fine, but it just seemed a little too easy. :)
Some photos can be found here:

Thanks!

RE: New Axis & Allies Global War Variant (free map)
No suggestions from me, I am using a 48" width printer, the paper is a roll, so it can be 48" wide by however long… I know someone on here was recently talking about using a program to print the larger maps out on single sheets and splice them together though.

Message for Meethos:
You can download a free trial of Paintshop online, open it as a PSP and then resave it as a PSD for photoshop, that is what I did to it since I use Photoshop. :)Message for Positronica:
My gaming group has a game planned for next weekend (Saturday), we will be using your map which I have printed on a full size sheet, I will post photos and let you know how the game went on it. Thanks for your efforts, I am sure a lot of people will have some good fun thanks to you!Derek…

Random Country Roll
Anyone have a good method of randomly selecting countries before a game? My gaming group is having a big game in 2 weeks (oversized map with the addition if Italy as a country), and we want to randomly draw countries, but rather than just pick them at random, I was going to have everyone submit (in private before the event) a list of their country choices in order from their top pick to their last pick.
The the morning of the event we’d look at everyones top choice. If only 1 guy wants Russia (for example) then he gets it. If two people want the United States, they’d roll 1D6 for it and the highest roll gets it… The loser of the roll would then have this number 2 choice. If multiple people have picked duplicate countries then we keep rolling off until everyone has a country.
This will hopefully allow people to get to play a country at least in their top 1, 2 or 3 slots…
Has anyone had any success or problems with a system such as this? Everytime we do ‘random’ pulls it seems like half the people are always upset over playing a country they hate, etc, but if we just allow people to pick a country they want, we usually have a couple people wanting the same country, or the couple guys who ALWAYS play the same country and by now we have gotten used to their tactics, etc., and it makes for a boring game.
Ideas?
I have already requested every player emails me their list of countries in order from top to bottom, but I have not said how exactly I will be assigning countries on the morning of the event.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions…

Where to get Battle of the Bulge
Where is this game going to show up at stores locally? TRU, Wal-Mart, Target, etc., I have a TRU, 2 Wal-Marts, 3 Super Wal-Marts and 2 Super Targets all within 30 minutes of my house, but none of them have ANY of the Axis and Allies games. Should I special order one off the net or are they supposed to show up locally? I want to make sure I have one in time for Christmas for my son, he is really getting good at A&A games (12 years old), we played tonight about 2 1/2 hours on the TripleA system and he made some moves that shocked me. :P
Thanks in Advance.

RE: New Axis & Allies Global War Variant (free map)
Positronica,
I must agree, this is an excellent map, and aside from a couple of typos and the one missing sea zone as mentioned in a previous post, I love this map! We have a game here in 2 weeks and will be using your map, so I’ll let you know how the game goes and if any problems come up while playing a full game session. :)
If you make any changes or alterations to the map please let us know where to download the revisions from!

RE: Bigmap 1942… any other players?
A friend of mine just got me to get the TripleA game yesterday, so I have tried out a few of them now. Let me just say first that I am not a big fan of the online computer games like this, they all seem to blow (I didnt like Risk or Axis and Allies computer versions), but I downloaded this and I actually found it to be quite enjoyable. A nice way to get in a game or two during the week (my gaming group only meets every other weekend), I tried out the standard map and it was nice, not too hard, but not too easy… I tried out the Big Map you are talking about and it looks like it is going to be a lot of fun to get a nice ongoing game in there… I also tried the Four if By Sea version, I was the Russians and started in Cuba… I dont know if it was just the randomness of the game I played, or what, but it was very easy, I spent about 45 minutes and ended it because I had just about taken over the entire world, it wasn’t fun… I see there are a lot of other scenarios and I will try those out soon, but overall, I did enjoy it!

RE: Looking for Large Map Computer File
Great! Yes, please send me the private email and give me the low down! :)
I’d love to see a new (large) A&A map that has the Europe and Pacific areas added in, just please make sure you do it in Illustrator so the final file can be sized up or down without loss of detail! :) If you need any help let me know!
I cant wait to play on the large one you did before, that is a nice map.

RE: Looking for Large Map Computer File
Hey there Imperious Leader…
I wanted to let you know that I have a full size copy of your map printed, and it looks great! It might not be until after the Holidays before I get my group of gamers to play on it, but when I do, I’ll get some photos. It is really nice to see this map at such a large size and easy to play on. I sized it to my 6’ long dining room table! :)
Thanks again,
