      Four points I guess:

      1. I usually stack Ukraine with Russia. Trying to attack the Central Powers will lead to what actually happened in World War 1, Russia getting steamrolled and politically collapsing.

      2. It seems to me like your France isn’t playing aggressively enough in the face of Germany focusing on Russia. You didn’t mention the French once if your report, when it seems to me like you could have made a serious push for Ruhr, which would have either crippled the German economy or forced it to actually send units West.

      3. If Russia is proving a challenge for you, you can always march troops from India -> Persia -> Sevastapol to keep the Russians alive. Even under tournament rules there’s nothing stopping the UK from dumping it’s entire income in India and rampaging across the Middle East. The Ottomans shouldn’t be able to put up too much of a fight unless you’ve got a really strong Ottoman player. This gives you free reign to either wipe out the Ottomans or prop up the Russians long enough for the Americans to win the game for you.

      4. If the Italian front is stalling and Americans aren’t needed in France, you can send the Yanks to Italy instead. If you’ve established Allied naval dominance and the Austrians aren’t putting up any serious fight in the Trieste/Venice region, a steady line of Americans will probably be enough to ruin Austria’s day, or at least force them to divert troops away from Russia.

      @WILD:

      So how’d it go, what did you end up doing?

      I listened to you guys and didn’t attack! Waited 2 turns and we ended the game on G6 or 7, I don’t recall properly!

      The Russians continued to back, and 2 turns later (G6), I attacked Russia with the Inf + Art group that were built in G1-2. Some tanks + mech joined the battle. Something like 16 art, 31 inf, 11 mech, 17 tank, 3 fighters 5 tactical 2 bombers (I decided to divert part of my airforce to punish a British + US mistake - my airforce was stationned in Leningrad, and there were many transports unassisted)

      I crushed Russia with around 10 tanks left + airforce. I crushed UK transport fleet. I blocked US fleet inside Norway/Danemark (he went in) by retaking Danmark.

      Overall, I won, because I waited for the additional inf + art 😮 (Russia only built Inf this game, was that a mistake? He only fell back, and never counter-attacked)

      edit : Going from my memory (Saturday feels so farrrr), here is the big battle for Moscow :
      Germany :
      31 inf, 16 art, 11 mech, 17 tank + 3 fig, 5 tac, 2 bomber

      My numbers are probably a little bit off…

      vs
      Russia
      61 infantry, 8 art, 3 mech + starting offensive units… (1 tank? 2 fig? 1 tac?)

      After my victory over Moscow and the Atlantic fleet, the allied surrendered. Japan was also at India’s doorsteps, but was far from taking the last remaining Victory city

      EDIT #2 : What happens to Mongolia rule when Russia capital is taken? Do the Mongolians still spawn if Japan decides to attack?

      @Gargantua:

      USE THE ALPHA 3.9 RULES FOR EUROPE - They are substantially better.

      Everything works properly and is covered by Alpha 3.9, with 3 exceptions.

      1. France starts with 2 less IPC’s (17?) becuase French-Indo-China is not included
      2. Russia gets + 9 IPC’s a turn from it’s eastern territories
      3. USA only collects NO’s represented on the European side of the board

      Don’t ask me why Krieghund/Larry thinks it’s ok to give Russia + IPC’s from other maps, but not America or France. 😛

      They’re response so far has been that ‘somehow’ it makes sense.

      They get +9 but lose the 2 infrantry bonus each turn comming from novosibirsk so they only gain 3IPC per turn.

      When one scramble for defense, can you decide to back after one round of fire? (as the defender_

      Urgent, we stopped playing -.-

      Asked and answered in the FAQ thread.

      You cannot retreat as the defender for any reason.

      Army of Northern Virginia

      Lets pretent Hitler was never born and the Weimar was in power.

      As soon as you do that all events which follow change, so you can no longer use the same history for the hypothesis, since all of the events that followed were dependent on Hitler. No Hitler = no 1939 invasion of Poland. Other events maybe, but not the same. For all we know if Hitler hadn’t been born, Germany may have been invaded by Russia and the cold war may have been between a German victor and the US.

      Hypothesis and theorizing aside: Germany was defeated in North Africa and Stalingrad at the end of 1942 / the start of 1943. At that point any chance of an Axis victory was lost (the Japanese were also experiencing reversals of fortune in the Pacific). The causes for the loss may have started earlier, but that’s when the problems created earlier became physical fact.

      @Omega:

      Still need to know the units per nation

      There is a list at the Europe 40 entry of boardgamegeek.com, and someone posted a list of his units here on the forum (prolly on page 2), which lead to others posting theirs…showing quite some differences.

      I am still missing all my Russian units…  😢

      Hellmet

      One of the fellows in our war gaming group has scanned the Rule Book and converted/combined the graphic files into a PDF file.  During the conversion some resolution was lost but it is readable and the size is manageable at 5 MB.  I have put it on a server I have access to for anyone that wants a copy.  This should suffice until an ‘official’ on-line Rule Book is provided:

      ?

      A good friend of mine who knows a lot about computers recommended the ASUS G72 for under $1000. I am not qualified to tell you which is the better deal from the selection that you mentioned. It is probably going to come down to your individual needs.

      I still view the Allies with a slight adv b/c of the number of Round 1 attacks the Axis must do, particularly Egy.

      As for bids, we didn’t use them in our tourney and the Allies are holding their own quite well.  I think they are up a few games thru 23 games.  It might be like 13-10 Allies right now.

      In the League we do use bids, but that is also used to determine sides.  A lot of times both players may bid 0 and just let sides be chosen at random.

      I did just post a few stats in the League Forum (thru the first 12 completed) in the discussion thread and the Allies hold a 7 - 5 Adv in wins.  Avg bid was 1.3, but 7 games were played with a 0 bid and 2 were played with a 1 bid.
