RE: Global 36/39 Recommended Pieces Numbers
For the general stuff, HBG’s recommended list is pretty good.
You want more of the exotic stuff like Tigers & Katyushkas.
It depends on the players. Do they have a soft spot for Heavy Tanks? If so, you want more…
I’ve bought extra units 2-3 times since we started playing.

RE: [1936] New player quick index project.
Rank, I’m glad you find it inspirational. A lot of nitty-gritty details goes into them :-)
I’ve also made my own setup charts.
- Number of sculpts to take in the tray for each unit (only take a particular type of unit from the tray once)
- Go over the map from left-right (or vice versa) only once
- Neutral-stuff are included (example. Siam, which in 1939 use Japanese units)
- The expansions we play with are included
They save me app. 2 hours of setup time.
Attached is an example: Allied and Comintern setup charts

RE: [1936] New player quick index project.
I’ve created a “one-pager” (printed on both sides) for each alliance. It contains most of the information a player need during the game, so we rarely have to look something up. This becomes extremely valuable as you add more and more expansions to the game, with new units etc.
Attached is an example - The chart for the Axis player

RE: GW 1936 Clarifications
Burma Road: The Burma road opens on July 1938 if Japan and China are at war and Yunnan is in Possession of the Allies. The Burma Road may be used as a way to deliver foreign lend-lease material to the KMT once KMT is at war with a major power. The lend lease arrives in Yunnan. China may use its own money to purchase artillery and antiaircraft. These must be placed in Yunnan. This part that say’s " The lend lease arrives in Yunnan" means that any and all lend lease is and has to arrive in Yunnan. These are specific rules to China’s KMT and any regular game rules on lend lease do not apply because these rules are only specific to China’s KMT . Doesn’t matter that Hong Kong is closer etc etc.
The part you refer to is only if using The Burma Road to deliver Lend Lease. You may also use any other mean available to deliver Lend Lease to KMT.

RE: GW 1936 Clarifications
So I am not sure what map you guys have but I have a star on Nanking and not Beijing. I have been playing it where China loses its money once Nanking is taken. After seeing a few of the replies here I will probably change how I play that…
Nowhere in the manual does it say that a nation loses its money once the capitol is taken.
The designer has clarified this elsewhere. -
RE: GW 1936 Clarifications
Can ANZAC send lend-lease to KMT via Hong Kong once Japan invades China?
On a side note, can the US (or other countries) also send lend-lease to KMT through Hong Kong when Japan is at war with China (but no one else)? As there is a railroad that leads from Hong Kong to Guangxi, why not?
It is the same as the Burma Road that leads to Yunnan.Note that ANZAC is considered a part of the UK, so only one (UK, FEC or ANZAC) can lend lease per turn#

RE: Global War 1936 Thoughts.
@Royal:
See now this is interesting, because I’m playing Germany, and I don’t have nearly enough troops to get through Russia. It’s 1942, and I’m basically trying to hold onto the, what I call, “Leningrad line.” I built a lot of infantry, which in the end caused tons of problems because They simply can’t get to the front line fast enough. Don’t get me wrong, I make about 80 IPP’s, but I don’t have the mechanized power to keep the Russians at bay. What they have done is basically let me have everything, and stacked artillery and Militia in Moscow and Stalingrad, making them unreasonable to even try to attack. I don’t know what to do! America is just about to enter the war and throw roughly 10 transports at my door. Italy is doing well owning all of Africa, but Japan never did well and China and is basically 3 years behind the ballpark. I could start buying strategic bombers, but it seems like carpet bombing is a waste, even with heavy bombers.
That brings me to a question that I would like to have input on for everyone who is reading this Forum (Thanks by the way, I really needed some feedback like this!) Carpet bombing only hits on a 2 or less, which is like hitting on a 1 for a D6, but worse because there’s more sides. (I know statistics are the same but they still never seem to hit!) I was thinking about increasing carpet bombing to a 3 or less, to give them the real firepower they had. I know that they were really good at simply destroying cities, but the only concept that can show that is by destroying factories. What do you guys think? Would it be too strong, or do you think it would be okay?
I don’t think Germany should be able to “go through Russia”. Historically, it wasn’t the case. It is one of many of A&A legacies / fallacies. The Victory Points gives you a hint as to what territories are important to win the game. Germany wins nothing except a few IPPs by conquering Moscow. If the Russian player in your game has stacked Moscow & Stalingrad with slow units, he has lost the game.
Re Carpet bombing, I like the rules as they are (and so does everyone else in my group). Strategic bombers are meant for infrastructure. Historically, ‘carbet bombing’ armies were not effectively used in WW2.

Re: 1b) If the Japanese capture it, do they get Nationalist Bank?
Conquering capitals in Global War does not give the attacker the defenders IPP. This has been clarified by the designer on the FAQ site.

RE: Global War 1936 Thoughts.
I our last 1939 game, Comintern actually stood to win (using the Victory Point system).
A key element was conquering all of Scandinavia early on, which gave them the economic power to hold Germanys advance. The Winter War expansion will counter this strategy somewhat, and we will play with that from next time onwards. It has taken my group a lot of time to learn how to play Russia well. We have been influenced too much by old A&AG40 habits.
It is truly a 3-person fight.
-
RE: Global War 1936 Thoughts.
My group prefer the 1939 scenario.
It takes some time to ‘unlearn’ old A&AG40 habits, but when you do, and the skill level of the group as a whole starts to improve, it is a fantastic game.

RE: Global War Variant
Due to the Expansion system, you almost have to make your own reference cards.
I combine everything for each alliance in one sheet - printed on both sides. The content is chosen so players have everything they need at their findertips - we almost never look at the OOB. This saves a lot of time.(I’ve made my own set-up charts as well - save more than 1 hour of setup time)

RE: HBG's Global War 1939 FAQ
“A nation that loses its capital loses all of its saved IPPs (even if it does not technically surrender). Some nations can set up a second capital.”
Does the capturing player get to keep the IPPs?
No, the capturing player does not get to keep the IPP. See:
http://www.globalwargame.com/www/question/money-from-deveated-nation/(I’m guessing DMcLaren is asking about the 2nd edition of the 36/39 game, as his words are the exact words from the manual 9.20)

RE: Blitz Support
Rank,
If you check out the Facebook page for Global War, they have actually just asked about “game reports” and opinions about what works well, and what doesn’t.
-
RE: Blitz Support
This is not related to the on-going blitz debate, but here goes:
Disclaimer: I’m not a fan of complicating things for complexitys own sake. If it doesn’t fix something, or add more fun…
Why not discuss it with the game designers? They welcome feedback very much, and - like you and I - aim to create the best possible gaming experience.
I’ve had such discussions with them about the convoying/escorting rules myself.
(Btw. Look for these changes in the next version of the rules  ) -
RE: Players Europe? Scandinavia? Denmark?
We are a group of three who plays in Viborg/Denmark

RE: Global War 39 vs A & A Global 40
Why not include GW 1939/1939, 2nd edition in the poll??? :?
