The starting carriers that Japan has, definitely makes them one of my favorite countries to play. As the United States, I try to match the number of carriers Japan has.

Axis or Allies?
With any global or theater game, I’ve had trouble deciding if a noob should play as the Axis or the Allies. On one hand, the Axis usually have the most advantageous starting positions and most starting units. The Allies generally have better incomes but less starting units.
Another issue is I don’t want the noob(s) to get crushed in their first few turns of playing Axis and Allies?
So, should noobs play Axis or Allies first?

RE: Rules clarification
Sorry Krieghund, didn’t mean to duplicate your post, you must have posted as I was typing mine.

RE: Rules clarification
All combat movement, to include loading and unloading transports, must be declared before a defender determines which aircraft they are going to scramble and where, if applicable. Once the defender has declared what they are scrambling, the sea zone must be cleared before the amphibious assault occurs. To answer your question, yes. The German load/unload does occur before scramble and you can load in the SZ where scrambling might occur.

RE: Pacific 1940 2nd Edition
@wittmann:
Can I say it for all of us: why not have used this excellent opportunity to give France its own sculpts?
Am so happy for Italy’s of course.Because they will probably save this ‘opportunity’ as a selling point for future games…
Imagine the draw of having unique French sculpts appearing in a Mediterranean theater-scale game!
You’ll buy it. I’ll buy it. Wizards (wisely) isn’t putting all of its available eggs in the Global '40 basket.
You are absolutely correct. I’ve bought every edition of Axis and Allies, regardless of any flaws or setup issues. I know Larry has mentioned before he won’t be doing an African theater map, but maybe he will if Wizards is holding out on new French sculpts (correct me if I’m wrong about any major battles in NA involving the French).

RE: Pacific 1940 2nd Edition
I must say I am happy with all the new sculpts but I really wish they would change the US fighter from the P-38 to the P-51 or the Corsair…:(

RE: Release Date?
Well poop on WOTC for poor public relations…or whatever it’s called.

RE: Release Date?
I pre-ordered the game at a local hobby store, so I went to the store today to pick up my copy and they said the game does not come out until July. The manager wasn’t in so I didn’t feel like arguing with a stupid employee. Was 1941 released today?

RE: I think it arrived!
From the video posted, the pieces don’t look that great of quality…I’ll just wait to make my decision to buy two when I get the first copy.

RE: AAG40 FAQ
So with these finalized rules and setups, does the setup apply for Pac. and Eur. when played separately also?

RE: Reducing the Ruer and Saarland to Ashes: A US strategy
Stalingradski,
Do you add the additional airbase in denmark so you can scramble more fighters? I don’t have a setup or map in front of me but I think there already is an AB in WGer. in the same SZ.

RE: AAG40 FAQ
Amphibious Assault: Can the attacker declare which ships are being designated for clearing a hostile SZ and which ones are for bombardment?
-
RE: American navy moves
Attack Japan, no navy to keep them in check at all unless US is in the Pacific. As the US I generally go for an island hopping campaign to weaken the Japanese and use all my airbases in the Pacific to reduce the amount of ships I need. Using the airforce in the Pacific, I produce usually enough ships in the Atlantic to help UK.

RE: ALLIES HELP!!
Really, Axis won? Maybe by IPC count, but that doesn’t include NOs. The game appears to be far from over, IMO. It may actually prove to be a very interesting game the way you’ve described it.

RE: FMG Custom Map: Invasion of Italy Setup and Rules
This is really great, I just glanced through the setup and it looks awesome!! Thanks for the link. I apologize for calling an FMG product, I didn’t realize it was a HBG product.

FMG Custom Map: Invasion of Italy Setup and Rules
I recently added the Invasion of Italy to my collection, but it’s the first one I’ve had to develop a setup and rules. The setup is the easy part, my problem is starting incomes for the Allies and their mechanics for deploying newly purchased units (mostly America). Also, what about victory conditions? I’m just curious to know if anyone has developed a decently balanced game. I realize that we all aren’t paid professionals but it would be great to see what other players have done, both noobs and veterans.
Thanks in advance.

RE: What is your most insane game of Global 1940?
Germany finally took Russia, United States invaded Berlin and failed, but the UK was there to finish Berlin. Fortunately, Italy took London. We called the game after that because the Allies had control of the seas but no land units left in the European theater and Germany had the ability to liberate Berlin.

RE: Favorite country to use.
Axis: Japan
Allies: I do not enjoy playing the Allies too much, I don’t like the freedom of not being able to have a pro-active strategy, so my final answer is Japan. -
RE: AAG40 FAQ
I believe I already the answer to my question:
When you build an IC, you cannot mobilize any units there until the next turn.
You can build ICs in newly captured territories.
I believe both of these statements are true.

RE: Japan
@urmomsmom7:
I don’t know. I’ve won every game since I started ignoring China so I don’t know. How do you guys take over China?
What setup have you been using and where is the Axis gaining victory, Europe or Pacific?
