      @knp7765:

      Yes you can. You are supposed to announce to the other players if you are making an amphibious assault (resulting in combat this turn) or an amphibious reinforcement (with NO combat in the contested territory this turn).
      What’s more, if you do an amphibious assault, accompanying battleships can conduct shore bombardment and any defending artillery can take shots at your landing units. With an amphibious reinforcement, your battleships do not bombard and the defending artillery do not take shots at your landing units.

      Battleships and defending artillery do not fire if you are offloading to a contested territory whether you conduct combat there or not.  They only fire if you offload to a hostile territory.

      Krieg, in the Alpha+ is it illegal for ICs to be placed on Japanese controlled mainland territories? I’m confused about the no ICs on foreign territories.

      I’ll illegal to build MAJOR ICs

      @cts17:

      The Germans must get past the British fleet before they can conduct Sealion, people.

      Before you rant at me and call me retarded by saying the Brits have no fleet, consider this:

      It’s because you never built one.

      If they build one, Germans go around the island and land in UK from Z109. Since you bought a fleet, there is little opposition on the island

      @AdmiralNagano:

      The way I remember it is that, if a plane can theoretically land at the very end of the turn, it can attack.

      The only exception to that is a retreat. If you use a carrier in an attack, you can’t assume that you will retreat on some combat round and thus allow your fighter land on it. Other than that, yes, if it can theoretically land, even if a battle is required to be won (like 1 sub versus 1000 battleships) then it can land.

      I am in a Global game now.  We just finished Round 9 and decided on a break for a while.  I am playing Germany and the Russian player is also handling China.
      Germany captured Paris Round 1, forced a Sealion Round 2 and was successful but at somewhat high cost.  Round 3 took the 3 big neutrals - Spain, Sweeden and Turkey - which also took a fair amount of resources.  Therefore, I don’t think I was able to build up enough in the east for Barbarossa like I would have preferred.  I had a good force by end of Round 3, but it certainly could have been better.
      Italy really struggled with Britain in Africa and the Med.
      Japan took a gamble by bringing USA into the war Round 1 by attacking Brits and the Philippines.
      As for Russia, first three rounds she spent building a lot of infantry along the border with a few artillery and tanks.  Round 4 Russia actually attacked Germany, which I really was not expecting.  Sank all my transports and took an unoccupied Sweeden from me.  Round 5, she had destroyed all three army groups in Europe, took Warsaw and was only frustrated by Finland with a bloody repulse.  Round 6, she threw a massive army at Berlin.  Lucklily, the last couple of rounds of combat went my way and Berlin survived with just 1 fighter unit left.  Both sides were severely depleted but Germany still had her capital.
      Fast forward to Round 9.
      Now Germany is getting strong again, starting to advance into Russia itself and threatening Leningrad.  German Navy has been sunk by the US Navy and they keep fighting back and forth over Spain, which US currently holds with a fairly strong force.
      Italy finally finished off all British and French troops in Africa and has a tank running around blitzing territories.  Most of Italy’s resources have been spent trying to help Germany with Spain and threatening Russia with a small force from the south.
      Japan has all but destroyed China – 1 territory and 1 infantry unit left.  They have grabbed Calcutta and control Eastern Asia and the DEI.  However, both the Imperial Navy and the US Navy have been slugging it out and are almost non-existant.  Also, Japan has tanks creeping west toward Russia.
      So, while Russia is still a ways from being “out of it”, they are in pretty bad shape.  I have seen this in other games as well.  Russia is just too dang big and can’t seem to get a decent number of reiinforcements to the front.  When they start a big offensive, if it runs out of steam then it seems like Germany always grinds them back.  Unless the US can get over there with a large enough force to really threaten Germany in Western Europe, Russia will be taken out and then Germany will have plenty of money to deal with the US and push them back out of Europe with help from Italy.

      How to say…. I do believe it takes more vision and experience  to win woth the axis but if both players have it the allies must somehow steal the iniative to tip the scales in their favor.

      doesnt it take until roind two for Anzac to get their bonus anyway? The transport starts off in an unfortunate position.

      The important thing to understand about mechanized infantry movement is that they move in exactly the same way that tanks do, except that they can’t blitz without a tank.  In most cases, the confusion on this issue comes from the definition of the term “blitz”.

      Many people define “blitz” as any two-space movement by a tank, but that’s incorrect.  A blitz movement is a combat movement through an unoccupied, enemy-controlled territory and into another territory.  Only the first territory is “blitzed”.  The second one is not, regardless of its status.

      So, mechanized infantry may only make a combat movement through an unoccupied, enemy-controlled territory and into another territory when paired with a tank.  Any other two-space movement that a tank can legally make can also be made by a mechanized infantry without an accompanying tank.  This means that mechanized infantry may always move two friendly spaces alone in noncombat movement, and they may also move two spaces alone in combat movement if the first territory is friendly.

      Yes because they have used what they had effectively and have other large naval presences. For instance a 7 strong destroyer fleet and haven broken through China, Russia and India… It has been a pain to be sure.

      Well the U.S. didn’t exactly jump to war with Germany lol.

      I was being a little off the cuff with the turn 20 crack.  I could live with turn 4 or 6 also.  Either would simulate a 1942 or 1943 U.S. declaration of war.

      Just want to give the Japanese some reason to attack Hawaii like FDR did.  If the Japanese waited until January 42 to attack I be the Arizona would still have been sitting there.

      No there is a need to roll dice, as subs are ignored and do not result in combat on their enemies turn unless the enemy ship is an unescorted transport. Then the sub gets one shot to try to sink it outside of normal combat, this shot occurs as the transport moves in or through the zone. It is listed separately in the rules and I did not know about it for the longest time in pacific until I read the sub section in the rulebook. Attacking transports are never defenseless as they can always retreat. However this is not an attack, this shot occurs during movement of any type.

      See page 30 AAE40 submarine section under: “Doesn’t Block Enemy Movement” line 9 beginning with “There is an exception…”

      Just allow defenders to retreat after first round of battle like the attackers can do. That’s one of the rules of axis and allies that don’t make sense to me, defenders can’t retreat. If they are surrounded, I can understand they must make a last stand however.

      You may use the tank and the two infantries in Albania with maybe an artillery and/or an infantry from Northern Italy. This way, Italy would have done it’s part of the deal for Barbarossa and appease Hitler’s demands about it.

      This makes sense for France - UK/USA liberates, then France Collects, then Germany recaptures.

      England is a different manner.  If USA liberates, Germany goes before UK collects.  If they wait till the next turn, USA can land planes.  Of course Germany can land in Scotland (if they’re boats are safe there) and send a double wave in after America reinforces.  Me, I found it hard (post Sea Lion) for Germany to divert any more resources away from th Russian front - including enough to hold USA out of England.

      What to do with those Germans?

      @Krieghund:

      Yes, they can.

      Is it possibile to have kamikaze aircrafts? Let me explain: can i use aircrafts to conduct attacks at sea that they have no possibility of return?

      No. You must be able to land, even if that landing site is pending a naval battle or non combat carrier move or sea zone build.

      Japan has a special Kamikaze attack that is activated by the allies under specific conditions, but it does not involve normal air units on the board. These are 6 one time attacks on enemy ships excluding subs and transports.

      See: page 21 AAEurope 1940 bottom paragraph under “Air Units” third bullet point, last sentence: “You can’t deliberately move an air unit out of range of a potential safe landing space.”

      See also: page 13 AAEurope 1940 first paragraph under “Air Units” first sentence: “An air unit that moves in the Combat Move phase must generally reserve part of its move value for the Noncombat Move phase, at which point it must return to a safe landing spot using its remaining movement.”

      Note: This is not an official answer, just being helpful.

      Thank you. 🙂

      If UK falls on G2 they get that build before USA, which if they also and planes, the game is hard to come back from.
