Bill, have your japanese partner at least feint at doing something which will bother the US. Be it subs off the west coast. The dual landings in alaska and sw canada, take hawaii for the bonus.

RE: Subs
Suns are neat. I like to use one to lure out destroyers germany japan or england can not afford to replace.

RE: Russia's National Objective Met by Declaring War on Japan?
Every transport japan wastes dropping troops in siberia is a turn the dutch east indies, india, or singapore holds out.
It does hurt russia by redistrubuting its infantry to the east. It pushes japan back a square or two. I think of each round of territory which has to be captured as one more turn america has to get involved.

RE: The Tank is Still King
Agreed. A tank only army is uncalled for but i see most powers building one or two a turn. They still get places which is important on our big map and defend well in freshly captured territories

RE: Italian France
If italy takes France it happens. Sometimes it is worth it to throw a curve at more experienced players who are used to certain things happening.
Overall i would rather have one 60 ipc country with a ten ipc sidekick to attack with than two 35s. Just easier and you can still save the sidekick for can opener moves.
In a game where italy has a dedicated player letting them take france gives that fella more to do

Destroyer able to blockade two land territories from one sea zone?
Last night an american destroyer ended up in the Agean sea zone, the italy can build into. Did we understand correctly that it can both cost italy a dollar then blockade germany for a buck if germany owns yugoslavia and greece?

RE: Balanced???
I believe it to be pretty balanced.
New players have a more difficult time moving forward quickly on the attack so the axis suffer a little there.
Even playong Pacific40 my less experienced friends have a harder go with japan. Put down ICs two or three turns late and stuff like that

RE: Soviet / Japanese Non-Aggression
Japan might be better off ignoring the russians for three turns. It was neat in my last game watching the japanese and russian player not really attack eachother until the russians had a setback in lenningrad and the infantry mound started backing up.
Then japan attacks half heartedly. The russian infantry goes to china to help

RE: UK industrial complex in Egypt
Persia is safer. Sometimes on round one i am building so many land units in england they have no money left for anything even in south africa.
Let us know how your game goes

RE: USA KICKS EVERYONE'S ASS!
drat, forgot about that. Thank goodness it hasn’t come up yet in our games.
Need chapter and verse designations in the rule book!

Where is the US allowed to move before declaring war?
Our group has been allowing the US to sit in the middle of the Atlantic prior to declaring war but forcing them to stay out of sea zones bordering Europe and even Africa.
Does the spirit of this rule mean we should not allow the US Pacific fleet to sit off any of the Pacific Islands which aren’t theirs?

RE: Death of the KJF?
I am 1/2 way through a game where I am ignoring Japan totally with America. Just a game though to urge the Japanese to do SOMETHING. They’ve taken Hawaii painlessly. Next turn they should probably blockade my west coast taking about 10IPC.
My first answer will be to build up to about 5 air units there and use a couple from the mainland to make invading Alaska or my west coast improbable. Turn after I think I have to build 4 AC for 64 points, maybe a couple destroyers right in the middle of the Imperial Navy. My instant Navy will have cost me 120 points or so and consist of 8 fighters, 4 two hit air craft carriers, and 2 Destroyers.
My slow to be made point is, Japan costs the my US at least two turns of going Europe total that way.

RE: USA KICKS EVERYONE'S ASS!
8 land units is enough to retake the UK the turn right after Germany takes it. Figure you get out of there with only 4 or even 6 survivors and Germany just retakes it with Sealion2. Not a big money maker landing 30 points on units in the UK so steal 30IPC of theirs but it does keep England from collecting that money and slows down the Americans.
Germany could always 10 infantry in the UK the turn after they take it and scatter some destroyers in the North Atlantic to slow up them inbound Americans if possible.
At some point you’ve spent 30 bucks and wasted some naval units to hold the UK, but it does slow up the Americans again presumably allowing the Japanese to make more progress westward across Asia.

Countdown to Moscow!
Played 1/2 of a team game tonight. I had life pretty easy as America and Australia lol. The Axis did not even make any attacks which get the US in the war on round 3. More I watch this the more I think it puts them at a disadvantage.
I keep seeing Japan get distracted in Russia and not take the Borneo, Java, etc. In northern Europe a feint at Sea Lion with a back up of the amphibious landing in Leningrad happened again also. My first two Axis games I did the same thing. Germany can not FORCE Sea Lion on England and ends up building a carrier or two to protect its fleet. Sea Lion feints help Italy out since the UK can’t spend much in South Africa though and that double landing in Scotland on G2 does potentially get 16 Germans into attacking London and creates a potential disaster if England attacks the 8 or so land units in Scotland and wins.
With my US strategy I dared Japan by totally abandoning the Pacific just to see if Japan would attack me. It barely worked. He just captured Hawaii and sent a few folks after the Philippines. So of course now it is the end of turn 4 I have a huge navy off Gibraltar West and landed a few bombers there with only a couple inf and barely any protection to goad Italy into wasting transports there.
America with all that money is like the timer in the game.
Like someone pointed out a G1 attack kills Russian inf which usually just backs up.
I propose it also gets the Axis a square or two closer to Moscow or India since America isn’t activated by Germany attacking Russia.
Further Japan must take them high dollar islands to neuter India’s ability to fight back. This leaves Japan the choice of going India crush if America ignores it or attacking Russia in force if India looks like a pain and Russia screws the pooch with their 18inf or if Stalin has too many troops in Europe as well.
A G1 or G2 attack on Russia puts America at best 5 turns from being able to force a landing in Italy, probably 7 or 8 depending.
In my games Italy has had a pretty good time of things in Africa averaging between 20 and 30 bucks income so they are not entirely helpless. Japan has to come blockade my west coast and take 12 or more bucks a turn to force me into building 4 or 5 Aircraft Carriers there on the second turn of them doing that.

RE: Comparison betw AAG40 and AA50?
ROTFL!
My kids better not leave my transport fleet hanging in the breeze

RE: Converting friendly neutrals
I’m at work now passing lunch so I don’t have my rule book with me.
Seems I recall it takes the whole combat phase to convert a friendly neutral, you can’t blitz them. I got this image in my mind of tanks having to go on parade and Generals having to go to dinners with ambassadors.
Lets see if anyone with a rule book handy corrects or confirms what I think I read

RE: New Global Strategies
Think of it as a good challange of wasting americas time and money rather than holding alaska. It is ashort boat trip from alaska to pearl harbor then another short trip to mexico.
If america messes up and your tanks can blitz through and capture anything neat all the better.
Really i am having more fun playing the axis. They just seem more mobil.

RE: The United Kingdom Split
Despite having ‘guards’ units from missouri or nebraska the united states was probably more united in 1940 than the united kingdom.
Knowing where we are now politically makes that  obvious. India does not have much to say in british elections where soith carolina has yet to declare independence again.
Then again Tata motors owns Jaguar……

RE: United Stated taking over the Dutch and French territories?
Round one of that game japan did not attack the US or british. Japan was too busy eliminating 18 russian inf lol
-
United Stated taking over the Dutch and French territories?
Not that i wouldnt want the British to get the money but an opponent wanted to occupy and administer the French Vietnam and some of the Dutch islands with the Americans on US1 before America was at war.
I suppose there are reasons like blocking the Japanese.
Should we have allowed this?
