i personally like the target dates. i think there have been a couple of times when the pieces came in before the set target date, so it just works both ways

RE: Need Help to Finalize HBG Japan Set!
LOL I got played. it looked like it was because it was the french heavy -_-. after looking at it i still feel it’s not as needed as the other pieces that were mentioned. plus it looks more like a moving fortress than a tank.

RE: Need Help to Finalize HBG Japan Set!
Gentlemen,
Here is another Japanese WWII pro-type heavy tank.
O-I Super Heavy Tank The picture of this one it was almost the size of a German King Tiger II or a JadgTiger. This Japanese prototype was a multi-turreted tank equipped with a 105 and a 45mm cannon, plus three 7.7mm machine guns. The maximum thickness of the armor was said to be around 200mm
According to Japanese sources the prototype(estimated weight 120 tons) was fielded in Manchuria for operative tests.

Anyone have any other ideas?

this kinda looks like the french heavy tank

RE: Need Help to Finalize HBG Japan Set!
i’m hoping for a pershing and b-29 in future set.
The problem with a heavy japanese tank is: what they called heavy would be a light tank in the german or russian army. Same for a heavy tank for italy. I believe (and i’m being to lazy to look it up right now) that the “heavy” japanese tank mounted a 57mm gun. That’s a smaller gun than the Sherman, Panzer IV, T-34, late model Panzer III. And those are all Medium to Light Tanks, depending on the tank. 88mm for the Tiger, 122mm for the IS-2, 90mm for the Pershing. Nothing the Japanese fielded or planned to field stacked up against this tanks. They had Tank Destroyers that had the gun but not the armor to compare to these tanks.
That’s why I want a medium tank for my japanese collection and I’m fine with using a Tiger in Japanese color for a heavy.
i completely agree.and i will be doing the same

RE: Need Help to Finalize HBG Japan Set!
i’ve always hoped the US would get Pershing maybe in a future set. but i dont mind the japanese player having to use tigers as heavy, since they probably wont be buying nay anyways. and about the tony that is the same kind of argument about the p38 it looks completely unique army fighter but still HBG made a war-hawk and a mustang even though those 2 Army fighters look alike at the scale. and no one complained about that.

RE: Need Help to Finalize HBG Japan Set!
no more tony but depends if you add the Ki-100 instead of the tony do you still need to take one other one out?

RE: Need Help to Finalize HBG Japan Set!
I’m glad to be part of this community. I was taking a look at some of the new pieces you will be making. I like IL’s idea of remaking the Yamato super battleships and I’m glad to see Japan is getting the navy that they deserve. I think Japan should receive both a light cruiser and a heavy cruiser. Also I like to see the KI-100 included in this set as a true late war fighter. Also a mid to late war A6M Zero should be added to counter the American F4U corsair. Also is it possible to add a heavy tank.
welcome kurrupt, i pretty much agree with all of your suggestions, expect i dont think japan really needs a heavy tank. Japan really didnt have any plus i doubt the Japanese player will be buying any heavy tanks . plus they are already getting a supped up navy

RE: Need Help to Finalize HBG Japan Set!
i just know for my group for we would like to see the consistent pieces for the major powers. such as the early/Mid/late war fighters, early war battleship paratroopers , ect, ect. but with factions that are naval heavy/land heavy they should get extra special troops like Germany / Russia with extra tanks and Japan with there navy Britain with their Commonwealth , and America with pretty much everything. i still feel Japan should match Americas might with Naval forces, and in terms of fighters since with OOB America Has a 5 fighters they can cover early mid late and naval no problem maybe adding 2 army fighters isn’t that bad for Japan. even though a REALLY want to see the Oscar witch was used also for kamikaze attacks during the end of the war. it could work as OOB zero as early war. the TONY for mid war since a lot of people would like to see it, the new HBG improved Zero for naval fighter, and the K-100 for late war fighter.

Naval
Mogami Heavy crusier
Nagara Light Crusier
Fuso Class Early war Battleship
Nagato Class Battleship
Kaga carrier
!-400 Submarine
New version of the Yamato with original secondary battery not the AA version. I have this in 1-700 scale waterline.Aircraft
AM6 Zeke=Zero mid war fighter
Val Dive Bomber
B5N Kate Level/Torpedo Bomber
KI-57 Transport
KI-100 Late war Fighter
KI-43 Early war Fighter
G8N Heavy bomberLand
Type 97 “Chi-Ha” Light tank
Type 1 Medium Tank
SNLF Marine
Type 94 6-wheel Truck
Type 87 Armored Car
Ho-Ha Half track
Type 5 Ho-Ru Tank Destroyer
Ho-Ni SP Artillery2 more points i would like to point out is japan needs a wide variety of naval and aerial pieces for games such as HBGs Midway. both America and Japan can have a lot of naval games. so pieces such as light and heavy cruisers are more valuable to the 2 nations also different classes of fighters and torpedo/dive bombers doing this will makes games like Midway soo much better and for me make it worth while to buy.
second thing is japan needs an early war fighter. i still vote Oscar for that one, and they need a REAL late war fighter and the KI-100 fits perfectly it was pretty much the best fighter japan put out there at any point during the war. plus the Tony look like any generic western fighter, it would be better if we had unique Japanese looking fighters representing japan

RE: Need Help to Finalize HBG Japan Set!
This looks like a super great list. Looking forward to the final list. I found a couple of issues:
The Type 97 “Chi-Ha” is a MEDIUM tank, NOT a light tank. The Japanese LIGHT tank is the Type 95 “Ha-Go”, which is the sculpt we have from OOB.
IL is probably right, probably should include the A6M Zero fighter. As for an alternate fighter, I can’t remember the designation but there was one that was based on a German in-line engine and looked a lot like a Messershcmidt, which was a very un-Japanese look. That might be interesting to have in a Japanese set.
Not so sure we need pill-boxes or fortifications. Not that people wouldn’t use them, I just thought pill-boxes and fortifications were going to be in a universal, or commons, set with things like factories, bases and such. If Coach is planning such a facilities set, then it seems to me like fortifications should be in that set and save the slot in the Japanese set for actual Japanese equipment.
Would like to see HBG’s version of the Yamato, especially if other BB types were included so you could use the Yamato as a Super-Battleship.
I personally see no need for an Infantry carrying a Flag. I wouldn’t have any use for it in my games, especially since we don’t have that piece for any other nation.
completely agree with you. sept for seeing both the tony or another zero. it doesnt make sense how all the other main factions have gotten true early/mid/ and late war fighters while japan will get a tony witch is a mid war and if the zero is built another mid war fighter.
-
RE: Need Help to Finalize HBG Japan Set!
really the tony -_- as a late war fighter? what happened to the ki 100 its an actual late war fighter and is a much better fighter. also no more ki-43 for ealrly war fighter? thats a bit of a disappointing i thought they would be able to match the us navy/airforce maybe you can use that instead of an infantry with a flag

RE: Next Nation to sculpt at HBG
Sverige class looks great also. but about the Greek soldier it also can pass as any other Balkin infantry.
i would also disagree about the polish infantry only working for them. The Dains, the Czechoslovakians, and the Swedish would fit also with the polish infantry. Czechoslovakia will probably be included in the 1936 game

the idea about the subs needing special rules are you think it should be 1 atk and 2 def instead?

RE: Next Nation to sculpt at HBG
some ideas for the next neutral set
Poland and Greece are some of the most important of the minor nations should be represented and adds diversity to the neutrals infantry
Polish infantry:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Polish_infantry_marching_-2_1939.jpgA Greek infantry/ a generic partisan infantry can fit with many minor nations
http://img71.imageshack.us/img71/508/eyzvnas4nm.jpgI know everyone didnt like the Fokker Gi but it fits with the rest of the Fokker war planes in use already. it would fill in the role of Tac pieces perfectly
Submarine: much needed especially when the dutch were known for there submarines in teh pacific
either the Dutch K XIV
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K_XIV_class_submarine
Or the Polish Orzel class Sub
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ORP_Orzeł_(1938)a coastal defense ship; would fill in HBGs Global 1939 perfectly. much needed piece for the game
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:HMS_Oden.jpgMedium Tank:this piece is more of a reach for my wish list. giving people the option to use medium tanks for their neutral forces .
The Dutch used Marmon-Harrington MTLS-1GI4 medium tank in the pacific, it has a neutral looking feel to it, IMO it looks perfect for a neutral medium tank
http://forum.valka.cz/attachments/796/mtls_1g14.jpg
its the tank on the rightand another pic; http://www.overvalwagen.com/images/mhbiga4.jpg
the PZL p.24 fighter, the P.24 was used my a number of differnt nations through out the war, including Greece, Poland, Bulgaria,Romania, and Turkey. this piece is very unique looking and again was represent 2 of the most important minor of WW2, Greece and Poland
http://www.pilotfriend.com/photo_albums/timeline/ww2/2/Panstwowe PZL P24.htm
last is Polish Cavalry i know no one uses this piece… yet but if there is going to be a 1936 game eventually this piece is going to be needed. plus it still works for the 1939 map
as the Polish and Greek still had some cavalry in there armies. -
RE: Next Nation to sculpt at HBG
i dont think theres a tac for neutrals yet but the next neutral set should have at least coastal battle ships
-
RE: French Set…need help to finalize set.
agreed, fmg’s Italian cruiser was a bit smaller then i thought it would be, compared to the battleship. but then again i felt the infantry was to small and the mech and truck were to big
-
RE: Next Nation to sculpt at HBG
i mentioned a list before of what would be nice to see in the next neutral set. but before that i think other actual nations sets need to be completed, such as the Brits and their commonwealth, japan, france, italy, ect ect… but i agree would love to see another neutral filling in the missing units.
-
RE: New pieces from Memoir '44 Equipment pact
are memoir pieces A&A scaled. cause polish cavalry is something i wanted
-
RE: Axis & Allies 1941 First Preview
the Japanese get tigers too? i love their new navy though

RE: Next Nation to sculpt at HBG
i take back my vote for south africa being blonde. they are to clsoe to ivory , i rather see the blue grey that HBG had for their painted version of the South africans
