Marine,
Please explain what you mean by “pulling out today” and “hopefully the war in iraq will be over”?

Janus, I figure he broke it up to force us to watch the rest.

RE: 1000 year Reich, was it possible?
My presumption was based on Germany stopping periodically. Like I said, major change in tactics.
With Russia and England out of the war America mould have had a rough time doing much for the same reasons you state they could not invade us. The same Ocean would have stood in our way. Now you need to remember where the oil, etc was. They would have controlled it, not us.
I still doubt it, but it’s not impossible. -
RE: I got to know..
I liked the Lightsaber battles in I and II better, but other than that, the stories suck in the Prequels. They made the coolest bad guy of all time (Darth Vader) into a putz. <sigh>Well on DVD you can jump straight to the fight scenes and skip everything else.
Course I will still go see it opening weekend when it comes out. :)</sigh> -
RE: 1000 year Reich, was it possible?
Well, it would require massive changes to the strategy, but it was possible for them to conquer most of the world.
Take away the early harsh Russian winter and who knows what would have happened in Russia year 1.
Go back afew steps and what would have happened had the British been destroyed at Dunkirk? It’s not an immediate win, but it takes the British out of it for a year.
Dunno. Possible, but not probable. The Germans had an incredible force and ruthlessness that made it possible.
Diversity in the countries they conquered is a non-issue. They would wipe out anyone they did not like. 1000 years is a long time though.I can’t really say I believe people would allow hell on earth to last that long. -
RE: Who believes in God?
Yanny,
Science has put forth some pretty wacky stuff over the years. They tried their best but looked at the world and saw things incorrectly. Does that mean all science is wrong?
Up until recently (in the terms of all human history) people saw religion as a work in process. All religions changed. It was easy. With an oral history people can make subtle changes over time and nobody notices. Now we have written text. Are we better off? People get hung up in rules and fail to connect with spirituality, IMO. We find this or that book and boom, the search is over. Look at all religious text. How did the prophets become prophets? Did they just sit around doing the same old thing every day? Where the great prophets, priests in churches? Or where they the guys like John the Baptist, and Budda who went looking for new truth?
How would a real prophet be greeted today? If God tried to speak with us, would we listien? I doubt it. We would call him a blasphemer.CC,
Don’t agree with you on “Almost all Christians believe in the whole Bible”. I don’t believe this to be a true statement. I think some do, but most in their heart think there is some artistic license being taken by the authors. There are no studies on this backing either of our arguements, but I don’t like being lumped as an outsider when you are making a judgement call. :)
Saul is the ONLY reason Chistianity exists. Before him it was a sect in the Jewish religion. Saul/Paul brought “Christianity” to the world. The Apostles had no intention of making this leap. The Apostles still followed, as did Saul the OT teachings. The big reason the OT stuff was dropped was circumcision. Without dropping that restriction, Christianity to the world would have failed. That is why we don’t have the OT as part of the main Christian doctrine. -
RE: Who believes in God?
I believe in God and I think he will be cool with Janus. The God in the Bible often seems petty and small. The God I believe in cares what you do, not what you chant. Don’t think Christians chant? Drive by an abortion clinic some time. If that really is God’s choosen, I will take Janus’ route. I would rather burn in hell than spend an afternoon with that lot.

Ha ha ha! Good one CC! :)

RE: Is the current size of the US military too small?
Marine,
Ummmm, no. The French Revolution was after the American Revolution. If we really need a larger military, why don’t we just feed them McDonalds for every meal. I hear that will make them much larger fast and it’s probabbly cheaper than MRE’s. Whose with me?!

RE: Who believes in God?
I think it was a really big beaver. Lord knows I have seen some that where pretty big and scary. Honest mistake really.
-
RE: Who believes in God?
Yeah, I forgot about the Mesozoic book of the Bible. It’s right after Thessalonians right?
-
RE: Is the current size of the US military too small?
 We are our own worst enemy. Oh well. America is great enough to make up for our short comings.
-
RE: Is the current size of the US military too small?
Ha ha ha! How soon we forget. We loved the French in the first Iraq war. They where our allie and fought by our side. They flew missions over Iraq daily. What has changed? Has an entire nation become cowardly? Hmmmm. Makes one stop and think. Or not. It’s easier to get mad at them and change Frech Fries to Freedom Fries. After all, if you are not with us, your with the terrorists. <sigh>Yes, we need to increase the size of our military. Since enlistment is down 22% the only way to do that will be conscription. Have a nice day.</sigh>

RE: Who believes in God?
Mutha,
Some people do indeed worship the Bible. For some it is the entirty of history. If it ain’t in there it does not exist. Some people say that dinosaurs did not exist for instance because the Bible says people where here from the very begining of creation. The Bible has a timeline and some people think it shows all of the history of the galaxy. I am not among that group. Frankly people in that group scare me and I am not currently going to church because I don’t want to be around people like that. I still believe in God though. -
RE: Who believes in God?
I do believe in God, but I am skeptical about many things in the bible. The bible is a way of life, not a historical text. It’s philosophy. I feel sorry for folks that can’t see beyond the bible. God made a big beautiful world. It would be an immense waste of space if we could find everything in a single text.

RE: "Greatest Generation"
Yes, they deserve it. Maybe another generation will be tested like them, but they stepped up and deserve respect. Hopefully my generation will not be tested. Personally I like the easy life we have been living. Leaves more time for Axis games.
-
RE: What kind of player are you?
I push myself to play well, but winning is secondary to having fun. Our group plays all sorts of games.

RE: Utopia
Anarchy could never be Utopian because everyone is working toward their individual good, instead of a common good. For instance, if you NEED a hospital in the middle of a population in order to provide the best care for everyone, you could not build it. Even if everyone was really nice, without any authority or governing principles, the group would immediatly start to crumble. Good government manages the sacrifices of it’s people. Anarchy has no such overriding principle. It is a failure as soon as it exists.
I suppose in a population that is extremely small, where NO public works where needed or expected it would cause Utopia to fail more slowly, but even there it would create friction as people saw untapped potential. -
RE: Worth Getting?
I had put a “No” on this, but I found out we where messing up American reinforcements. You have to reinforce left to right, top to bottom, so it would restrict the US a BUNCH. The guy who was playing the US was just reinforcing in whichever was open. This severly changes everything. I literally held Utah for 5 turns with the Axis. He should not have had any reinforcements. :) BIG differance. I did not see how the Axis could win before. I should have looked more closely at what he was doing. I was just focusing on the side I was playing, which was the Axis.
We will have to play afew more times now that we are playing it right, but I feel a no vote is wrong since I based it on false assumptions. -
RE: Utopia
Utopia can only exist with perfect people in it. Put in a goober or two and it’s no longer Utopia. That said, with perfect people only working for the common good I would say a true Democracy would be Utopia.
Mutharussia,
Name one Fashist government in all the history of the world that did not crap all over it’s people and I will pretend you are not just being silly. In order for a government to be Utopia, one would assume that you meant the people in it where not being pooped all over after all.
