RE: Kamikazes question again
ok so kamikazes can only happen during the allies Combat Move. good to know.
what happens if - iwo jima falls to the US. Kamikazes are now ACTIVE. then Japan retakes Iwo jima. are kamikazes still active?
-
RE: Question
so the scrambling ftrs only “attack” the boats that are making the combat move?

RE: Kamikazes for Japan, what for Germany???
@Brain:
I think people just want to have a mushroom cloud piece like Supremacy had:
lol i own this game too. played it 3 times i think

Question
this may have already been addressed. if so, my apologies.
scenario:
no boats in japan sz. lots of ftrs and tacs in jap for scrambling purposes.
US moves large fleet into japan sz. jap does not scramble.
on AZ turn, 1tra w/2inf moves into jap water to land in KOR.question:
if jap scramble ftrs on AZ combat move, do the US boats defend with the AZ transport? -
RE: Missing U.S. unit types
my guess is marines will be a tech in the global game

RE: Midway-Wake-Pearl, Naval Bases & The J1 Attack
if i am playing US, and on J1 the japs take midway, i would probably abandon haw, and play def in wus. buy a ftr, inf and art for wus def and leave boats off the coast.
i have only played against 1 opponent f2f, maybe 10 games, and have 1 game of aap40 (still going) on the forum. havent had to face the J1 attack yet. truth be told i am not sure how i would handle it. i need to play against more and different opponents to really get the feel for it.
the aleutian island thing has worked well in my f2f games only because he usually sends the whole fleet south to india. then he has to worry about invasion and send some boats and planes back to japan.
the one J1 attack was by me, and was working very well till i left a large fleet within reach of everything the US had on about turn 5, and he wiped me out, with a little help from the dice gods. next time i play as Jap, i will try the J1 attack again. maybe even try midway, just to see what happens.

RE: Midway-Wake-Pearl, Naval Bases & The J1 Attack
we have been playing this since it came out, and we have only tried the J1 attack once. but we have been using the aleutian islands as an air and naval base for the US. thinking that if the US can put some(any) pressure on japan itself, it would help keep the IJN to north and away from UK and Anzac. with the few ftrs and bmrs the US begins with, along with the boats, you can have a nice little fleet in ale US1. then buy bmrs, subs, and some loaded transports, and just keep building up a force there. with the bases in aleutian, we leave haw open, daring Jap to take it, with a threat of a strong counter attack. UK and Anzac always start out building inf, then switch to subs after a few rounds. subs keep the destroyers busy and maybe take a convoy or two from jap. china - if jap pressures burma road hard enough, they will take it every turn. sometimes we have had china abandon the road and head north to manchuria, just to keep jap in the north, away from india.
i like the aleutian islands bases, but it takes a little time to get it really up and running. i find that lots of subs gives jap something to do.

RE: Japanese Strategies
cant keep all the subs in one sz. jap will send 1 dd and lots of planes and wipe out all subs in 1 attack. have to keep all subs spread out, force jap to spread out her dd’s.
-
RE: Saving the UK if Japan goes all out to capture Calcutta
my last f2f game, my opponet went all out for india. i tried something different to change his tune. i put a naval and airport in the aleutian islands. kept all US fleet there, sending a loaded transport up each turn. then lots of subs, 1 in each sz only, to take the convoy routes. eventually he had to return to jap for fear of US invasion. he had to spend lots of cash on dd’s, but since subs are cheaper i didnt mind. i think if he would have stayed after india it might have been bad, but instead he headed back north. seemed to work that time.

RE: Japanese Strategies
i am beginning to think that the way to beat jap is with subs. lots of em. 3each turn with the US, and if anzac/uk can spare the 6ipc, have them build some too. start blockading jap convoys. just use 1 sub in each sz. jap will have to buy so many dd’s to kill off the subs, it will slowly bleed them to death. that is unless they go full bore for india.
-
RE: Convoy question
kinda what i thought.
then that seems to be a good strat against jap. lots of subs from all allies to dirupt convoys. keeps jap buying dd’s instead of boots for asia.
-
RE: Convoy question
i guess i am refering to the rule book #2 the word “your”. does this refer to the attacker disrupting convoys, or the defender - the owner of the convoy being disrupted.
-
RE: Japanese Strategies
i have built 3ss with the US every turn before. works good. have anzac and UK build 1ss each turn and pretty soon allied subs outnumber jap dd. use the subs to blockade the convoy routes and you can cut off japs money, making life much easier.
-
RE: Convoy question
maybe i am doing the whole blockade thing wrong.
lets say jap controls phillipines. in order for the allies to blockade sz35(phi), do the allies have to control an island(bor, pau, cel, guam, or dgu) adjacent to the blockaded sz?
makes a big deal. we played a f2f recently and the US bought 3ss each turn, anzac bought 1ss each turn and sent them out to disrupt convoy routes. this hindered the Jap income greatly after several turns. instead of the 50ish ipc they should have been getting, they were only pulling in 30something, china and the UK to advance.
need some clarification. thanks.

Convoy question
if a sub is in a sz with a convoy marker, it takes 2 ipc away. a surface warship takes 1 away. if the enemy places one of their subs in that same sz, does it keep the money (no blockade)?
ie…
US has 1 sub in sz20 = -2ipc for jap
us has 1ss in sz20, jap has 1 sub in sz20. then what? -
RE: Scramble question
They can’t hit the subs, or be hit by the subs. So, what would be the point?
just a question dude. maybe some new thing with the whole “scramble” thing.
-
RE: Submarine question
yes. they can disappear in to the dark deep sea and only the almighty destroyer can find them.
