Would love to see another 7-game classic, and would give the Spurs a big edge for having Game 7 at home. Despite some hiccups in earlier rounds home court still means a ton in the NBA.
Yes, home court is definitely huge. :-)

@wittmann:
Nice avatar John Brown.
Thanks wittmann! I found the picture the other day and thought it would be neat. You know me, I like to change my avatars, all the time, LOL. :-D
I’m not picky, I would take any of them, but I would have to build a museum first, to house them all. :-D
I will say this - I like Nelson Cruz and glad he’s having success right now. But if there is ever an example that he should be DH only…game 6.  :cry:
Don’t get me wrong I like nelson Cruz, but I would have dove for that ball. This is the world series, and I just didn’t think he gave it his all on that play, but he is also the one that was giving us runs, when Hamilton wasn’t producing.
I’m very glad of this rematch. I’ve got quite a few friends of the Heat (namely from Bron Bron), and last year was a fun, yet ultimately sad, time. I look forward to it again as well as revenge. I’ve put my wallet down on the Spurs, as I believe they will take it this time.
The Spurs were only one play from winning last year. Let us hope they get their revenge. I don’t won’t another Miami win. :-D
Yes, that hurt worse than last year. Our outfielder could have ended the series with the Cardinals and Texas would have won its first world series. That was a bitter pill to swallow, especially losing 2 in a row.
Thank goodness, the Stars at least, won, one Stanley cup, because they lost against New Jersey, the following year.
Me neither (nothing against them, although I dislike the “Superteam” approach).Last years series was exactly like when the Texas Rangers faced the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series. Both went to game 7s, both had an incredibly crazy game 6, and ultimately it broke my heart…
Thanks for showing the link. That is sweet! :-D

@CWO:
I like the idea of having a generalized system that would apply to elite forces for any power rather than specifically just to Marines, since not all countries in WWII had Marines. As for the question of elite forces being overpowered, it would depend in part on their cost-benefit ratio. An elite infantry unit should have some kind of special ability which a regular soldier doesn’t, but it should also come at a higher cost and perhaps operate under certain restrictions that counterbalance its special abilities. In real life, for example, paratroopers have the advantage of being able to land by surprise behind enemy lines, but they have limited staying power compared with regular infantry because they’re lightly equiped. This makes them a good choice for certain types of missions (such as securing critical bridges and road junctions on the flanks of the D-Day invasion beaches), provided that they can be relieved by ground forces fairly quickly, but they’re unsuitable for other types of missions (like ground assaults against fortified lines) and they cost more than standard troops. So in A&A terms, elite forces (like Marines) should always be more expensive than conventional infantry but perhaps not automatically advantageous in all situations.
In the 39 game. it says you can produce only 2 units per turn for all countries, elite units, not just the Marines. Sorry Marc, I should have clarified that. The problem is I don’t know if there is a maximum number of specialized troops you can have. I haven’t found that, yet. :-D
I looked on the Global 39 rules, and it says you can produce 2 Marines per turn, but I didn’t see a maximum amount.
I would think you could only have a certain amount. Maximum 4 Marines would be logical to me.
Guys, I think in the Global 39 game, I think the most you can have is 4 Marines, at any given time, so that is not too overpowered. You may have to correct me, if I’m wrong, but I think that is why they limited on how many special forces, you could have.
I think it is that way with the French Foreign Legion, British Commandos, the Russian Guard and etc.
If there ever is a third edition I could see new French units for Europe and new US units in the PTO. It still begs the question Why did AA50 and AAP’01 get both Hellcats and Lightnings yet AAGC had just Hellcats?
Just an FYI also guys, the plastic pieces are cheap to produce in the volumes Hasbro produces in China ONCE the molds are made. When WOTC/Hasbro shorts on the plastic pieces they’re just being cheap, and is also the reason they will send you a whole new set of pieces when you complain. The most expensive components to the game are the printed ones. The paper IPCs of yesteryear cost more money to produce than our beloved sculpts.
It would be awesome if both the US and UK got different sculpts in both theaters of war.
Thanks for the info! That is good to know. :-)
Alright, Spurs pulled it in 6. 4 more to go! :-D
I sure hope the Spurs can close it out tonight! I don’t won’t a game 7. I guess we will see. :-D
@Imperious:
What is this extended version they are talking about on June 22?
The extended version is the one where they broadcast movies Conspiracy and Valkyrie in their entirety, as opposed to stealing scenes from them…
Thanks IL, I appreciate it.
I even got done with everything I needed to do today, just so I could finish it tonight.
What is this extended version they are talking about on June 22?
What would be the point?
@ABWorsham:
I thought the series was going to discuss the delay in the German advance on Moscow by encircling Kiev, now they have the Germans attacking Stalingrad.
Yes, I hated how they handled the whole Eastern front. It was just a disappointing series altogether. :-(
It is unfortunate, but I found several mistakes as well on this last episode. I really wanted this to be a good series, but unfortunately, it isn’t. I hope the history channel doesn’t mess up the upcoming D day special. That would be tragic.
I guess I will have stick with World War 2 in Colour. That is by far my favorite series.
LHoffman, I like your list a lot. those are much needed pieces and some could be redone, as well.
Not to dampen anyone else’s excitement, but France is dead last on my list of anticipation, besides maybe China. Boring units with little to no war contribution and present for about 5 minutes of A&A gameplay. 99.85% of the pieces will never be used.
If France is ever in a position to actually buy anything, the German player should be quitting before it happens. No point in prolonging the inevitable.
I am rather interested in their ships though. That is one usable unit, which I would personally love to modify rules for… such as French naval units having the possibility of being taken over by Germany. Would make games a bit more interesting.
I’m excited because I make up my own home games. I live so far from anyone that plays, that I make up games sometimes, and the more pieces from different countries, the better for me.
I played some games with Tall Paul, but we never have time to finish them, and he lives over 2 hours away. I only get to play every couple of months with him, so anything new just adds to my game.
I like to develop, “what if scenarios?”.
That is the cool thing about axis and allies and HBG making these pieces, because you can develop your own games and house rules.
You can have a 21st century battle with just France and England, if you choose. You could pretend the Chinese and Russians are on the same side and use the red Japanese armies as China and the OOB or Maroon HBG pieces to represent Russia, taking on the world.
Most people will play the global game, but there are some of us that have other games in mind that we can use these pieces for.
That is what so great about HBG, they think outside the box. They cater to all kinds of players.
One of the things, I hope they produce someday, is a Vietnam Boxed game with expansions later for it, with plastic Huey helicopters, Chinooks, Riverboats for Seal Teams, LRRP patrols, Green Beret, Marines and other special forces, F4 Phantom and other bomber planes, NVA, Vietcong, and many units used in the war.
I wouldn’t mind them having French units from 1954, when they were there and it stretching to 1975, or the Australians involvement during the war.
Of course, it wouldn’t play like axis and allies, it would be a different game, but I guess point I’m making, is not everyone will like the same things, but HBG has something for everyone.
I’m excited about the next couple of board games.
Many people wanted Amerika and that is great, but it wasn’t my cup of tea, but Midway, on the other hand, I’m excited about.
So there is nothing wrong if your not excited about it, but your not dampening my excitement, because I know what I want to use them for.
What set are you excited about the most? :-D
