And the IT1 went poorly, too, but G1 was very good which is way more important.

@axis-dominion Yep, first Axis loss in BM.

I have 2 Axis losses in vanilla.
My first, when I played Karl and lost France at 99.916% odds (20 ground units).
The other vanilla loss was a championship game against Zhukov back then.

In total, this was my 8th loss in a league game since joined the league in 2013 (plus maybe 2-3 play off losses before they were counted to the league results)

U were better. I went risky after those big early mistakes, had to try to retake Cairo, but i failed.

      congrats!

Thanks for you the nice words and it is always tough to play you as you push very extreme on a certain side that does not allow any margin for error or any dice disaster.
I agree that you made it easier for me than it should have been due to some mistakes. Also, I think at this point, the Axis are unstoppable.
But I have to say that the dice favored the Axis. Except my attack at Java, literally everything went smoothly for the Axis while Allies had some very harsh dice from time to time.
Fewer mistakes and better dice on your end, the position would still be tough.

Thanks for the game, pleasure to play you!

the dice just speed up the process.

It was a total victory from the start.

      @farmboy said in JDOW (X) vs farmboy (L+12) BM3:

I’m forgetting the specifics but I think your naval base and factory in Malaya that your fleet could retreat to influenced my thinking. Because of that, I thought one choice you had was to attack my fleet and retreat, building 3 carriers and possibly an airbase for insurance. I’d have to damage carriers in the battle not knowing how far you would take the attack and the following turn, I would have to retreat my damaged fleet and set up blockers to keep your now repaired fleet from wiping me out. That was risky enough that I didn’t think you would do it, but I thought it may be less risky than a straight up attack on the fleet. So I wanted to give you a lot of other targets.

Good point, I did not even consider such a hit and run. If this battle goes South, Japan is f**ked and I did not want to risk that so I didn’t look deeply into that option.

But as I said, playing Allies is tough and I am not sure if I had any chance if I played myself as Allies. Axis is just too strong and in order to win, Allies need one of the 2:

A major blunder by Axis Give them a BIG BIG bait that is too good to resist but that has the potential to go South, so they bite and it goes South.

But regarding 2: I observed games, where the Allies did that and the Axis took the bait but the dice did not punish it.
Wheatbeer once played gamerman. On paper, gamer was supposed to win this game in 95% of the cases. But what just took bait after bait, it all went well and out of sudden there was nothing what the Allies could do.

But I really think that this is inevitable when playing Allies. At some point, you need to make a bold move and put the game into MARTI’s hands. Otherwise, Axis will always be one step ahead.

Although I have taken to passing on the SZ37 attack in a J1. The bombers are highly useful for attacking Yunnan and facilitate keeping an infantry out of the attack, although if you think 17% to lose a plane is something I can’t imagine you doing that. Also, losing the Cruiser may not be worth as much as the UK BB.

Thanks a lot for the game and the kind words. You are a great player and a fair sportsman.

The position was indeed hopeless for the Allies.

All the best for the new season. Yes, we can have a rematch in 1-2 weeks. Ill get in touch!

I now checked again. in R3 no battle took place and yes, you kept a large stack at Novo this turn but those troops would have made it back to protect Moscow if played properly.
In R4 you made this Baltic states attack.
But as said, in R3 no battle was even rolled that forced some commitment, you were free all the time to change your NCM even after you posted.

Okay, let’s bid again. I suggest we do this via chat, that saves disc space of the forum 🙂

If played properly…the story of my life, ok

      Hi Simon,

thanks for sharing. I see many of those “kill one axis power with force” strategies in the G40 forum and I am not a believer of them.

In general, I think the game is designed that Axis is too powerful at the beginning that enables them to withstand any of these “KGF” oder “KJF” strategies, especially if they aim to achieve something major in the first 3-4 turns.
In case, Axis is played by an experienced player, I believe there is always a thoughtful response the Axis have to that kind of aggression that thwart the Allied plans and leave the Axis in an even stronger position because usually, the side in the other theatre will get out of control then soon.

I believe the major problem is that players try that stuff against inexperienced players that are overwhelmed by that kind of aggression and make mistakes then. However, once the play against a good player, they will learn that the strategy won’t work on a high level.

I think this is a bit comparable with gambits or very aggressive openings in chess. While mediocre players are often outplayed by these because they do not find the right response quick enough, the top competition knows how to respond and will the aggressive player leave with a disadvantage.

      Thanks Juan.
I guess the last posts did sum it up. First 2.5 rounds went smoothly for Axis, Allies felt under pressure and increased the risk level by not taking air to Caro. 7% chance of failure materialized and Adam decided not to fight an uphill battle from there.

@djensen Oh, I guess it only turns off the highlighting which is like the only good part of it 🙂 The scrollbars are the really annoying part especially the horizontal ones.

I’ll look to make a TripleA code update to move the posts to markdown syntax especially since now both forums use it.

Ups, leaving 16 units behind for a suicide attack is not helpful 🙂
I agree that the Allies had to hope for some kind of dice miracle as the Axis were clearly winning.

I have 2 pieces of advice though, if you are interested, let me know, I would PM you then.

      Thanks for the game Sir.

Uhh, some slaughter was going on according the Marti dice:D

      Jason,

thanks a lot for the kind words, very interesting game. I can imagine it as at least satisfying to have Japan down and I can admit that it does not feel well.

However, I believe the outcome was inevitable regardless whether you had continued to siege Tokyo or grab all Japanese territory.

The decisive elements took place in the first 6 turns. Germans had a bumpy start but still managed to capture Moscow in turn 6 already without making any concessions. From there it was inevitable that the Germans soon will knock with overwhelming force at the doors of Egypt. As secure as it was in GoT Season 1 EP 1 that the white walkers will sooner or later come to the wall with overwhelming force:-)

So this game was a race against the Clock with the Germans having an early start. If everything goes 1-3 turns slower such games can go into a different direction and the Germans cannot hold against all Allies without Japan.

All of success for your remaining games and I am happy to start a rematch when the time allows it.

      Best regards,
      Tobias
