@domanmacgee Oh with Beamdog, i tried to tell them that a huge map print on Neoprene using the 1942 online map file would be a good seller, the new look then would have a whole new group of buyers who never played the actual boardgame and are used to the online presence instead. a 1942.3 must have neutrals with IPC and dynamic armies ( special pieces is cream color for them) and tech rules that don’t include crap non technology like “War bonds” and the optional rule in 1942.2 regarding escorts and interceptors made standard.

RE: New Renegade Edition
@superbattleshipyamato In terms of the resale market for old titles, point taken–but a new company has to add some flair or wrinkle to the next stage of AA for better or worse. This keeps people ( new people) interested in the new ideas. If you add nothing, you just defeat Ebay’ers by reducing prices on used games…

RE: Renegade Con Virtual: Axis and Allies
@pizzapete Not on Movement. Projection of military prowess, where units can quickly come back for defense or charge and attack Moscow and the “JTDTM”. For Japan its really important to quickly reduce her IPC to the nub so the final assault comes quickly before USA/UK get organized logistical train. Revised is kinds messed up like original AAE.

RE: New Renegade Edition
This new company is either very incremental or very cheap. They just add a few pieces and slap on the logo and call it theirs???
Holy crap, roll the dice and invent something new!

RE: Suggestion: removal of sub-forums
@vodot Right. We need to keep files in some fashion that are easily accessible for particularly new members whom are directed to this site to find them from other sites. Perhaps David can create a subforum by game that includes the file links for every creation/file.

RE: Renegade Con Virtual: Axis and Allies
@barnee Revised is broken. 5 ipc tanks, buy all tanks. Game over, do not pass go insert 2 coins per play, JTDTM, etc…Black oceans. enough. 1942 is the standard bearer but a reprint should contain much larger map and new sculpts.

RE: Nomenclature
using 1942.1 and 1942.2 obviously denotes editions 1 and 2. alot more than 1942.0 and 1942.1 with the latter being confusing. Next i deliberately left out some games, as i was just making examples. But when somebody says 1942 edition, that can only mean 1942.1 or 1942.2, not classic, revised, etc. those can only be known as Classic or Revised which incidentally begin the war in 1942.
1998 AA Hasbro Interactive software and “Iron Blitz” can only be known as just as they are. Iron Blitz allowed you to change prices and combat attributes to all units that were in classic. It also allowed lots of optional rules. I loved it. MSN game zone was the best, latter dumping AA from the lineup of games… tragic result.
Anyway Kreighund has been one of the key guys to help AA gain traction since the beginning.

Nomenclature
@cernel We need to change the nomenclature for “spring 1942” and other games
As follows:
Nova
Classic
Revised
P40
E40
AA50
1942.1
1942.2
1941None of this: “Spring 42, spring 41”, whatever. Kreighund can say whatever the proper titles are, but everybody understands the preceding titles.
1942.2 is the flagship game of AA. It replaces revised (which replaced classic) that almost nobody plays anymore except hermits. Global is for the longer uber treatment of AA. If you have time , that game is for you!
but a 2-3 hour decent game is 1942.2. 1941 is for toddlers just getting into AA.
Now Classic is alot better than 1941 because of the map and player options developed over the years. The Infantry Stack Mechanic and Karelia and Eastern Europe dynamic, etc all arose from classic. 1941 is basically 15 territories and lasts too short a time. Its a door stop. You use it for pieces for other games before HBG came to fruition. Thats its purpose.

RE: More Announcements from Renegade
@cernel Ignoring? My quip is all three versions: Global, E40, and P40. Latter classic Milton Bradley might be in the cards.

RE: Ways to make the game better?
@domanmacgee the worst game is 1941, its too simplistic. It’s for Toddlers or animals that just learned to walk on land.

RE: More Announcements from Renegade
They should team up with Beamdog and make online E40 and P40 as well as Global, plus produce a vinyl map of 1942.2 that has counters that look like online 1942. Five sheets of counters, plus Tech counters and neutrals. map should be 72 x 36. the Artwork will be exact artwork as online 1942. The counters would save the production costs while still producing a nice game. Of course, chips are included to designate multiples of units. The game would also come with a bag of round metal bits , one for each counter so players can glue the metal weights to each counter. Thats way you can play outside and the chits wont blow away. This might not look like a proper product, but it will sell like hotcakes.

RE: G40 Custom Map Projection
@black_elk yea this is alot better. Ok you might consider the look of 1942.2 online for your oceans. The ocean has a white/light grey soft striped thing going with dotted lines for sea zone separations. Beamdog made that version alot more familiar than the OOB map
-
RE: G40 Custom Map Projection
@black_elk The white outlines along all coastal/border areas present a pixilation problem to the aesthetic. The lines need to be smooth. From far away it looks fine, but close up is terrible. IMO

RE: **Axis & Allies 1942.3**
More links added, working on more

RE: G40 Custom Map Projection
@black_elk Australia partitions are strange. The middle of that continent should be essentially impassible, its a “Sahara” but worse. All the coastal areas are in play for partitions, so to invade is a giant ‘creep’ around the entire continent IMO. It cant be possible to cross it in any manner with armies.
-
RE: G40 Custom Map Projection
Also, Alaska looks wonky. Another stretch job…hmmm. I would split Italy into 3 areas. The Allies took almost 2 years to get up that boot.
The sea zones being as they are must allow naval movement to be must farther than 2 spaces or we’ll never finish the game imo.
-
RE: G40 Custom Map Projection
@black_elk Can Germany have a separate Prussia and pre 1939 borders? It looks too ww3 ish IMO. I understand its 1940, but to create the same land area, but redo the borders so its clear to see the part of Poland that was occupied. I do see you made a west and east Germany ( post war), but to me that consideration is secondary. Modeling the map so you see the starting points is golden. Germany can still win the game, so how does East/west thing work? The cartography is great. Whats going on with those two small areas above the Caucasus near Astrakhan? The area in front of Moscow is really small. I know it will be very crowded. The choice for neutrals is too close to UK IMO. Too many browns tans, etc. YOu got UK, Italy, and neutrals all in hue of brown…
-
RE: **Axis & Allies 1942.3**
Also, the map is configured exactly like 42.2, except i added Azores. I also made the cartography more realistic looking and cherry picked areas to do this since the map of the game is what it is.

RE: **Axis & Allies 1942.3**
@superbattleshipyamato The synthetic oil crescendos in 1944-45, while the game starts in 42. I cant represent oil if it isnt there at start. Also i cant alter the setup (except as noted–Russian bomber turn 2, German UKR fighter and Bomber elsewhere at start). I cant alter setup with all sorts of new pieces, this will ruin the time tested openings of 42.2, the idea is to make a toolbox of all kinds of new units that are balanced per cost, but allow greatest player options possible.
Azores are neutral, have no defense, you just occupy it . its an unsinkable carrier for anybody who wants to bomb east coast USA. I always wanted that option.
I changed Mongolia to pro soviet . You were right, they were pretty much a satellite of USSR, but i removed 1 infantry
