@simon33 Your using faulty reasoning. Because a few people live there in today’s time frame, does not mean that entire armies can cross with tanks and artillery through hundreds of miles of sand dunes. You watch too much Rat Patrol! You and the one that thinks movement is unrealistic nonsense should go to the same BBQ. The block in that game is realistic enough. Look at the Qattara depression. Their is a reason why Rommel and the Allies totally avoided this place at El Alamein! its an impassible quagmire of desert!
Who are these people that keep bringing up this ridiculousness??

I gee i can land in this field but i have no ammo, no fuel, no nothing. I think i will eat the tree bark today, the Fuhrer told us it was delicious! Yea right. No bonus movement for planes wanting for lack of fuel…in this measure they can only travel as far as the fuhrer believes it can go…perhaps can wave down a passing benz and accommodate its fuel so i can complete my mission…

@poptech LOOK. Airbases are established centers of aerospace logistics. Bombers don’t fuel in open fields, fighters don’t get supplies of ammo and payloads of bombs they precision drop on tanks from mountaintops. Centers where military airbases are located need to be featured in some detail in a game like this. Military bases are not civilian bases. Bombers need long runways to fly off with tons of bombs.
Also, you need some mechanism to damage them just like factories. The idea is not unrealistic. Naval bases have a similar function.
I would have taken it a step further with railroad concentrations that can also be damaged.
Go to Ukraine and see the problems associated with keeping an airbase operational during wartime.
But never complain about this again until you do.

@poptech Its a game with 6 month turns, if it were 4 month, everything would still be ok. I suspect when you see an infantry unit—thats ONE GUY, or a tank is ONE TANK. The pieces and movement are representative of quantity and time. Thats it. Nonsense ended.

@all-encompassing-goose Well everyone know A&A is a gambling game. Thats why Low Luck attempts at all the various games break the game because the setup was based on gambling dice, not bean counter types who wear white shirts and thin black ties and have their hair slicked back like Pat Riley circa 1983.
The only possible game that LL might work is Global, but that’s not fun either.

As far as “boots” you need to employ the zombie rules…For every two Canadian infantry drafted, one disappears since it avoided service. This models canada exactly.

@angel Well everything depends on the price! Cruisers cost could move to 11ipc and a Battlecruiser could be 15? Perhaps you keep them a M2 unit, then a 1 hit wonder with 4-4-2-14 and a SB4 would have some utility for some nations.

My suggestions are in most cases “TECH IMPROVEMENTS” In some cases are additional tools to give player options, which is what makes these games so interesting. For example a Battlecruiser is a “tween” unit between Battleship and Cruiser and not all nations may buy them, but need a 4 defense or offensive unit, plus if you add a speed of 3, you got a utility in that to use in special occasions and its cheaper than a Battleship, but the only thing is it takes one hit. I have played with this type of unit for years and it works and does not break the game. Paratroopers would be a tech unit BTW, but all nations should be capable of its development, even though all nations did in fact have Paratroopers in the war, sake Italy. What is not a “Tech” but nobody but me seems to flog its very notion, is those very scraps of paper with a corresponding pledge to pay the borrower back at the end of the conflict known as “War Bonds” This is not a tech!!! and yet people just pass it off as some invention that was paramount to Allied victory. Rather its: We got nothing left in our mind to put down as a potential tech, that’s not political “atomic bomb avoidance syndrome” due to our puny understanding of History and so i remember Rosey the riveter signs from some book as being iconic, so war bonds was born.
Stupid.

Heavy Bombers
Fortifications ( Seigfried, Maginot, Gibrater, Liege, etc)Map should be roll up Neoprene or Vinyl 72x36
Dry eraser IPC board
Plastic tray with 3 removable compartments (land sea, air)
Battleboard on the map
Neutrals have dynamic forces and IPC values and they can be influenced, Also Brazil is not allied to USA!
Add Azores, Mauritania
Allow invasions and fighting in Antarctica as per HBG “UFO business”

You all know Axis and Allies is a gambling game as well as strategy game. Low Luck reduces the thing to a 2 dimensional affair. Low Luck is for “Bean Counters”, who can’t cope with dice swings and can’t adapt their strategy accordingly. Their dream is to have everything written down in a folder and follow whats written exactly in every game taking the fun out of AA…
It must remain only an option because the setup was created with normal dice in mind and you break the games for the most part. -

@andrewaagamer 1942.2 online has that as an option…It bankrupts 1942. Russia can kill 4 German stacks on R1. It happened to me and everything was justified. Germany had a very hard time recovering from that! I was “lucky” in that the UK and USA player sucked and we won anyway. Biased dice are even worse BTW. Favors the defense way too much, unless axis buy tons of Artillery.
