Has anyone ever tried a strategy where you go roughly 1/3 income towards Japan and 2/3 income towards Germany? This would probably be ideal if Pearl went bad or didn’t go at all. I’ve always wanted to try this, but haven’t got the chance yet.

RE: Japan Strategy
I like that Brit opening a lot and have been thinking lately how to counter that. I’m having a hard time. My biggest concern is that the U.S. will split its resources 1/3 Japan, 2/3 Germany and then I’ll have to deal with that. What are your feelings on this possibility? I’ve always wanted to try it out but never got the chance. How successful can the two pronged, 2/3 Germany, 1/3 Japan, approach be?

RE: Find Opponents Here!
Hey, I’m looking to start another game. I’ve only played online once before… and got spanked! I have Abattlemap, but will use other programs if you really prefer one to another. Just send me a message. I also use the in house dicey.

RE: Russian Gambit
Why take a risk when you don’t have to?
I’m just saying you could, if you feel a little riskier, do the same opening but make sure that neither of your fighters die.
-
RE: Russian Gambit
Ok, everybody says this crazy russian move sucks because you lose a fighter. I say not necessarily. What if…
You do:
3 inf Kar, 1fig Kar, and 1 arm Arch attack EE.
3 inf, 1art, 1arm Cau, 1 fig Rus, and possibly 1arm Russa attack Ukr
3inf Arh, 3 inf, 1(2)arm, 1art Rus attack WRusNow the odds for winning all these battles aren’t great:
EE: about 52% chance things working out for you
Ukr: about a 64% chance of things working out
WRus: 91% chance of things working outSure all these battles are risky, but if EE or Ukr start off bad just back out. While the “Russian Gambit” is inherently risky, the two fighters can still be saved.
Alll though your ability to start trading territories could be VERY hurt if these battles go wrong, but thats war.

RE: Tired of KJF
@ncscswitch:
And you are still down economy, and have achieved nothing extra in terms of destroying Allied forces in Asia, just the same kills that are usually made.
I agree. In fact, I very much like this move you made and will probably try it out very soon!!! :evil:
However, I was just saying that you can hit both fleets successfully and have a minor air force.

RE: Tired of KJF
@ncscswitch:
How about a “Frack with Japan” strat…
India fleet to SZ59 (killing the TRN)
India + FIG takes out FIC (killing a FIG)
SZ40 to SZ45 to try to take out the SUB.Japan has a choice to make…
Pearl or SZ59. Doing both leaves Japan minus their fleet and AF.Couldn’t Japan just do a pearl light? Really light: 1 des, 2 fig, 1 bom (assuming sub is sunk, other wise he’d join). Assuming they they lose a Des and a fig then send in 1AC, 1 BB, 1trn, 2 fig to SZ59 where they’ll pry lose 1 fig and 1trn. The SZ60 BB could join a battle but I assumed he’d hang with the carrier at wake to protect it from a counter. I suppose including the FIC you’re out 3 fig, but you did manage to take out both fleets and only lose 2fig, 1trn and 1des and pry expecting to lose the des and fig anyways.
Though I will admit if one of the battles goes against them they will be hurting.

USA - Russia
I’ve been looking around the forums for a bit now and I haven’t found too much stuff on the Allies/U.S. Everyone seems to like the idea of conquering the world!
Anyways, I was wondering if anybody has tried or thought about building PAC fleet, but using them to transport troops from alaska to russia. I thought about maybe trying this option. Though haven’t put too much energy into this idea. What do you guys think? Has anybody tried it?

RE: UK 1st turn Pacific/Indian moves
Does anyone use the fgt and transport to hit africa and take it back instead of messing with Japan?
-
RE: G1 fleet unification, how does UK respond?
Good point. The baltic fleet solo may not be able to take out a combined British and American fleet, but it can soak up 4 hits allowing the 6 fighters, bomber and destroyer to inflict some damage without losing anything that wouldn’t be lost soon anyway.
BTW, I’d never leave just the Baltic fleet sitting naked in the English Channel (SZ 7). Who would do such a thing and WHY???
What would you do then to the Baltic fleet if you’re not doing the channel dash? Do you automatically go for carrier or have some other trick up your sleeve?

RE: Rules Questions
Got a transport question of my own. Is it possible to first move the Tran 2 spaces and then after it has moved, load from one place and unload on another?

RE: Strategy for Japan and how long does it take to drive to moscow.
Key phrase:
"I haven’t ever played a game where Bury, China, and Pearl were all hit on the first turn.
Harsh!
Well, if you took time to read the thread you’d see that Switch said Bury, China, and Pearl could all be done. I was skeptical, but now I believe him. However, I was curious as to the UK des, and AC and possible tran that could be used to kill the Kwan tran. Thats the fleet I was talking about :wink:

RE: Strategy for Japan and how long does it take to drive to moscow.
@ncscswitch:
Just a shuffling of forces, and you would probably have 1-2 fewer INF alive in China afterwards. But China still falls, and the Pearl Fleet (with bonus death of UK FIG) is killed.
All right, I’ve kind of played around with this and I conceed that this is indeed could work; however, there is one thing that maybe over-looked or somebody can correct me on this. Assuming the UK fig hits the sub and goes to Pearl, then you have to send 3fig, 1bom, and 1 des. I ran the numbers on Frood and with any less planes you’re hoping for a miracle. That still leaves you with enough air, ground, and navy to hit China and Bury. I figure 5 inf, 1fig vs. China and 3 inf, 1arm 1bb shot, and 2 fig vs. Bury. Now, assuming the UK went hard against your Kwan Tran and went Des and AC and maybe even tran, you really only have your BB and AC to attack it. I haven’t ever played a game where Bury, China, and Pearl were all hit on the first turn. Assuming this is done, I’d have to say the best move would be to block the brit fleet and hit it next turn. Are there any risks associated to this that Im overlooking?
-
RE: Strategy for Japan and how long does it take to drive to moscow.
I see how this is possible, but only if the Brit fighter was not sent to sink the Jap sub and reinforce pearl. If that fighter does get the sub and lands on the pearl carrier, what would you do then? I suppose you could do the same thing, but your pearl attack would involve a significant amount of risk.

RE: Strategy for Japan and how long does it take to drive to moscow.
Russians stacking in Bury on R1 are dead Russians. Thats the perfect opportunity to walk all over north Russia uncomtested.
My play group used to stack everything in Bury until it consistantly got wasted on J1 - now its a general rule that we pull everything back.
I’m curious, how did you go about destroying everything in Bury? Did you not hit Pearl or China then?

RE: German navy
@Imperious:
UK is blocking at SZ#6… if the baltic fleet stayed in the Baltic for G2, then UK and USA catch up because your then dealing with 2 full turns of builds… Each turn the Allies get stronger, while the axis only bought the g1 fleet buys and spent 40 IPC (1 CV and 3 AP). Uk just gets in position to exchange AND gets the ability to kill one of your stacks at its leasure once the medd fleet moves out. They cant combine on the same turn of UK is in SZ#6 unless the baltic fleet decided to attack. If they stay put then UK and USA attacks anything moving out of the medd.
Not sure if you are replying to me, but if you are, Im suggesting you move out first turn thus UK is not blocking you and that you do not buy unless either you are not attacked or get lucky with the dice.

RE: German navy
What if you moved the baltic fleet to sz 7. UK can either do an all out attack with air and fleet, attack with just fleet or air, or just leave it alone (very doubtful). US can also bomb later if its worth it. The point being, this gets my fleet moving. Now if the “Average” result happens, then I pry took a fig and or Transport with me and I’m destroyed. Not too big of a difference than before, but if things go well for me than I have a real chance of unifying the fleet. If the fleet is unified, then I’d add maybe a destroyer and sub or something. Something to make the Allies not want to park in sz 12. Helps keep Afrika Deutschlands. And on the flip side, if my fleet gets destroyed, nothing new happend. If UK uses their fleet then I probably will get 1 trn and keep them from hitting Norway or Algeria first round anyways. I don’t use my transport that much either.
In conclusion, if things go well, then fleet unification and make some modest Navy buys.
If things go to crap, I say screw it and stay with my normal German strategy. For some reason, whenever I play, it always gets destroyed on UK 1 anyways. If its gonna be attacked, why not atleast give it some hope if it survives.

RE: New German move, let me know what you think
I was hoping that with a destroyer and a tran I would improve my attack/defense value, but also add fodder while making sea lion a possibility. I realize my navy can’t live forever so I’d like my navy to deal some massive damage with help from my air force. Just my initial thoughts. The only thing with the AC is that yes it adds great defense, but it doesn’t add much for offense, and what I was hoping for was some offenseive punch. subs might be cheaper, but offer no defense against an air attack. These were just my initial thoughts about what I was hoping for. :mrgreen:

New German move, let me know what you think
Ok, so I was muddling around with the map thinking of how to open up with Germany. I’ve never played as Germany and am planning on being them next time. That said, the weakness of the German navy bothers me. The unification of the med and Baltic seems like a lost cause, but I’d still like my navy to do SOMETHING!!! So that being said, I devised a strategy. My opponents who I play with almost always open with a West Russia only attack and stack big there. So I thought about this buy: (We also normally don’t play with a bid)
2figs, 1trn, 1 des.
The trn and des go with the baltic fleet and figs in Germany. I then basically withdraw all forces to Eastern Europe. I attack the brit des in sz15 with trn, bb, 1fig. Attack Egy with forces from Lib, 1art,1inf from Trn, and 1fig and bom. I also attack brit bb in sz13 with 1sub and 4 figs. I also go ahead and grab Len. I will post a map of what I believe the map should look like assuming the Russian move. I also used average losses in each battle.
I feel like this set up gives me a navy that in combo with my air force that can wreak havoc, while also giving me the ability to trade territories with the Russians in later rounds with my large airforce. Buys for the later rounds would depend on how aggressive the Russians were, but I’d pry buy lots of inf for my 2nd buy.
Let me know what you would think. How you would counter this move, etc.
I also assume an 8inf russian buy.
