I didn’t get into AA until Revised was out, eventually I’d like to see what Classic was like. Only heard stories from a friend about what it was like.

Wow, my compliments on another solid paint job that makes me envious!
BTW what did you use for the stars on the ships? Looks like a decal of some sort.

RE: The most unexpected outcome/comeback you have everhad
Revised, I was germany, my cousin was Japan (shoulda been a power house since we are both the serious players) and three bothers as Allies. 5-6 hours into the game my cousin totally blunders not realizing a fleet could reach Japan and the attack goes off and manages to succeed in taking Japan. My brother Mike, the U.S., though they had this won. They made the big mistake of lighting a fire under my #@$ and it only increased my determination to win. I researched heavy bombers and in revised I almost always built a bomber a turn for germany. In the next few turns I worked to position myself for an attack on Russia and the U.K. Up until this point I was offering to call it a draw, because we were into 10 hours playing now and getting on past midnight. They scoffed at my offers to give them a way out, but they thought the win was in the bag. So I moved, and took the U.K. and Russia on the same German turn. I forget the details but I was laying waste to them and this blew them out of the water. After I took both capitals on one turn my overtures of peace ceased. It was now a U.S. versus Germany. He didn’t bother trying to come across the atlantic but took everything up to two territories from russia. I had plenty stacked there and to the north to destroy him if he dared move within a space of it. Mean while I put such a vast navy into the Atlantic from my earnings taking the capitals that I took Brazil and Cuba. On the turn I was about to take the Eastern U.S. he conceded. I was in deep water because he ended up getting heavy bombers and had tons of them, but he squandered them recklessly.
-I can be ridicuously determined to win and will stop at nothing to prove a point.
-My brothers understand the game, but do not have my understanding of it. Dice played a small part, as did techs.
-Russia and U.K. fell due to being diminished and lack of U.S. help in the west.
-My brother Mike could have made this game very hard to win with his tech rolls, but he squandered his units on moves that were not good and he lost many bombers and assets to careless mistakes. I basically wore him down because this game went into the 17th hour.
-I was not tired in the least, because I was going to make my point! hahaIt was a fun game, I wish I could remember all the details but it was so hilarious my cousin lost Japan. I wanted to thrash him at the time it happened! hahaha

RE: Survival question
I went with the witch doctor. Since he is from the island the tribe may have in their knowledge a cure or something to aid with this illness. If I contracted it on the island then maybe there is a glimmer of hope they also contracted it and know some kind of cure for it. Then again, the only cure might be to exterminate the person showing signs of the illness before it spreads to the rest, by having some crazy ceremonial sacrifice! :-o Maybe I should have picked the student, at least he hopefully took biology haha.

RE: Where do you live?
Nice, WV is not bringing up rear guard.

RE: How does everyone feel about the new transport rules?
I like the new transport rules, hated losing a plane to the dreaded AA gun of the sea!

RE: G1 naval build?
A German fleet could alleviate pressure from the Italian fleet. If you are the allies which fleet do you want to sink first? The Germans fleet because it cost them units on the ground? Or the Italian fleet because they can not readily replace lost boats as fast? If the U.S. feels pressured to help the U.K. then Japan might feel free to help itself to the entire Pacific.
Could someone give Kevlar +1 karma for me, I’d like to thank him for helping to keep me awake at work with all this thinking!

RE: The money
There was mention of a banking or electronic system on these boards, but it was some time ago. I don’t have it saved on this computer, but if I remember I’ll try to find it on the other system. I use the money that came with the game.

RE: What's the worst luck you've had in trying to take a territory?
My brother attacked Norway with the United Kingdom, two infantry and two tanks from transports and I believe 3 fighters and a bomber. I had four infantry on Norway and two planes I think. I can’t recall how many hits he scored, I think he killed all four infantry, and with my return attacks back I rolled three 2’s and a 1, the whole table was in an uproar and I then managed to hit with both planes.
Most of the time attacks are routine in our games, but occasionally with my family we feel we can drum up our luck if we start trash talking certain fights. I was frothing at the mouth because he was going to test the odds and come at Norway to relieve me of my fighters. This caused me to start spewing word vomit at him and his pathetic troops mustering in ships and freezing as they come at my position. It lasted through his four hits and set everyone off when I hit back so well. We can be a very animated bunch haha.

RE: Should Germany take Brazil G1?
Even, if it is not possible on G1, it opened up a nice discussion on the topic of taking Brazil and people are sharing their experiences.

RE: A&A: 1942 Edition
No money? So this new game will not involve IPCs? I was just telling me friend about this new game and wondering what the map will be like etc. Why is it just 1942? Is it because of lack of interest in the anniversary edition 1942 set up? I am interested to see more information.

RE: My take on LL versus Dice
This is a very interesting conversation. I never had the chance of using LL, but then again I also never have played a game of Axis and Allies through the forums. I think I would prefer using dice. I love to overcome some horrid rolls but still come out because of my overall strategy. I agree LL is good to eliminate poor strategies. I can also understand the side that would like to take more of the randomness out of the game. It is very fortunate there is a system in place that makes the game enjoyable and can afford players that luxury.
One day I will build up enough courage to stake my chances in a forums game and from there I possibly will try a LL some time!

RE: GENCON
@Craig:
Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition Game Play/Tournament: (10am & 4pm Thurs/Fri)
This is the first annual Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition game play tournament. All levels of AA players welcome but must have a working knowledge of the Axis & Allies game. Game rules will be reviewed for this casual game play tournament. 2 players per side and game play could last up to 6 hours. 13 VC victory conditions or most VC at the end of the game. Winners advance to SE Semi-finals on Saturday. Please bring a copy of the game. Top teams receive prizes.
Supported by WotC/AH, GM GregSmorey.I don’t think I could play in this tournament because I would tear my hair out worrying about my pieces to my game. Not just because it is AA50 but because I get obsessive about my board game pieces. For every person that is over protective of their games, there are probably the same about who are more willing to share their board games!

RE: All infantry on R1: does it still apply?
Last game I played, my brother built mainly infantry at first, retreated most of his other forces back, and late in the game produce progressively more armor. I worked on sending infantry first followed by armor, but UK was aggressive and the US also tried landing in France, so Russia breathed easy for a turn or two.

RE: GENCON
I was there last year and I was so excited because AA50 was going to be set up and you could check it out before it came out! I did not get to participate in any games since I was so busy exploring the entire convention. Everything looked great and like it was a ton of fun! I’m sure someone here has played or will be going this year. Even Indy was a pretty nice town! I hope to go back this year!

RE: Basic Game Chit- chat
@Imperious:
I have 6 copies and 5 are sealed in original shipping box.
Don’t think for a second that they will reprint the game. They wont. This will go down exactly like Risk 40th Anniversary edition where all these freaks bought the damm game up in 3 weeks and if you went on a trip you would have never known that version came out because they were sold out faster than Paris falls in the springtime.
Buy at least one more copy or you will regret it. For all of you who think you will find it on the shelf as a markdown at Wallmart latter are fooling yourself. On Ebay in 1 years time it will be selling for $200 and go for more as the years pass.
Avalon Hill wont be reprinting it because they are Chimps, and Chimps have no idea how to market games and how to sell them. Eventually in another 5 years we will all see some other incarnation of this game will even possibly better components, but we need to worry out the first 5 years of what we will be playing first.
Its even possible that they will release a WW1 version of this game in 2014 Aug 1st the 100 year anniversary of the Great War.
I hear you on this, I would love to have one to keep sealed! The only problem is making the sale of “I should have at least two AA50 games” to the wifey. She loves gaming, but somehow this scenario comes to my mind:
Me: “I need another AA50 Anniversary game.”
Wife: “What? Why? Are you going to play both of them?!”
Me: “No, no! I’m just going to save it, never even open it!”
Wife: :xthen followed by a slap or punch depending on her mood, haha.

RE: Can rockets reach from Caucasus to Italy's IC?
Welcome to the forums Merlin! My brother, a work friend and I played a game this weekend. We started at 9am and went on till 6pm! The game did manage to finish with Axis getting 16 Victory cities. Our games usually take a long time because we do not get to play often, so my brothers and cousins go at a slower pace. If you get to play more frequently, people will fall into their groove and the game should start flowing faster. Good luck with the next game!

RE: What do you do with the Americans in your "standard game?
Usually play with NO’s and put more than 50% of the U.S. into the Pacific. How much depends on Japan successes and their builds.
