Yes, it’s legal, as long as the carrier has a landing spot that’s not spoken for.  However, if you end up having to retreat your fighter will be lost, as it has no movement left.

the problem is how much is it costing Japan to conquer and hold hawaii compared to how much SBR damage it can do to US economy? also include cost of lost Jap bombers in SBRs. and if you dont at the same time keep US transports out of the water, at 2 SZ from US mainland your looking at a massive expendature of IPCs. if you can deny US of all IPC income from Jap SBRs, then it can work, but much easily said than done.

I believe some sort of tutorial is necessary. I think I’d start with opening up the board and letting them look at it bare, to see the territorial ranges and values of each power. Then I’d explain how the money works, and then each units’ cost and movement, and unique unit rules. Obviously there are some unit rules (especially with sea) that a new player could easily forget about in-game, but that’s part of the learning process. Then I’d give everyone their cards and let them set themselves up. At least that much prior knowledge before they attempt to start playing I think, and from there they can learn strategies as they go.

All right then, so the UK1 Indochina attack is not as risky as I thought. But I’ve just realized this also means that the Germans can shuck from Norway across the Gulf of Finland to Karelia just for bombardment purposes, which I think is a little cheap. Then again, this would require a Baltic naval build, a very risky strategy anyway.

I prefer a 6 inf, 2 arm, 1 bomber or 3 inf, 1 art, 3 arm, 1 bomber. The added punch to the Luftwaffe can be really helpful in preventing the UK from doing any landings on UK1.
Usually the Algeria landing is prevented until US1 or UK2, which gives the Germans 1 more round to bring troops to Africa (if Russia hasn’t bought a sub on R1, that is). And if you manage to sink the UK fleet on G2 then you won’t have to worry much from the UK/US for the next turns. If the UK buys 1 AC and 2 DDs, then they’ll have those plus 2 fighters and the US cruiser for defense, possibly also the R sub, depending on how that battle went. You’ll have 2 subs, 2 fighters and 2 bombers, if the 3rd sub survived the battle up SZ1 (by losing the fighter instead of the sub, for instance) then it is possible to sink all Allied ships.

      @wmman09:

I believe the perfect game is one where everyone has a good time!  What fun is it to work out the perfect formula that works 100 percent of the time.  Or what fun is a perfectly balanced game where if everyone does everything 100 percent correct it always ends in a draw.   If that is what we wanted, we would all spend 10 hours playing tic tac toe instead of AA. LOL.  I am not that good, but getting better all the time and I ALWAYS enjoy playing and trying new things.  Sometimes I have to be happy with my own personal victory instead of destroying my opponent.  I can be very happy delaying the win of a superior opponent instead of falling to him in round 4-5.  :)  As long as there are dice rolls and human opponents we always have a chance to win and can ALWAYS choose to have a great time.

I second this notion.  We added tech to the game as well for more variance.  The fact that it can throw everything out of balance and new strategies have to be formed around the technology you have.  We are using AA50 Tech trees.  Can anyone say heavy bombers and paratroopers.  Pretty sick.

Uhm, one thing i liked that we do as a standard was that bombers could be used as a transport.  Only 1 friendly infantry and it can be dropped off into friendly spaces.

I decided to redo the calcs regarding the SZ2/8 battles on G2, trying out different outcomes for losses on G1, and assuming that Germany will buy 1 bomber on G1.

      1. SZ2

      Russian sub survives G1

      Germany: 1 ftr, 2 bmrs, 2 subs
      Allies: 2 ftrs, 2 DDs, 1 AC, 1 sub
      33.1% win, 66.9% loss

      Germany: 2 ftrs, 2 bmrs, 2 subs
      Allies: 2 ftrs, 2 DDs, 1 AC, 1 sub
      68.5% win, 31.5% loss

      Germany: 1 ftr, 2 bmrs, 3 subs
      Allies: 2 ftrs, 2 DDs, 1 AC, 1 sub
      63.2% win, 36.8% loss

      Russian sub destroyed G1

      Germany: 2 bmrs, 2 subs
      Allies: 2 ftrs, 2 DDs, 1 AC
      27.3% win, 71.8% loss

      Germany: 1 ftr, 2 bmrs, 2 subs
      Allies: 2 ftrs, 2 DDs, 1 AC
      58% win, 42% loss

      Germany: 1 ftr, 2 bmrs, 3 subs
      Allies: 2 ftrs, 2 DDs, 1 AC
      81.6% win, 18.4% loss

      2. SZ8

      Russian sub survives G1

      Germany: 2 ftrs, 2 bmrs, 2 subs
      Allies: 2 ftrs, 2 DDs, 1 AC, 1 CA, 1 sub
      36% win, 64% loss

      Germany: 2 ftrs, 2 bmrs, 3 subs
      Allies: 2 ftrs, 2 DDs, 1 AC, 1 CA, 1 sub
      60.3% win, 39.7% loss

      Germany: 3 ftrs, 2 bmrs, 2 subs
      Allies: 2 ftrs, 2 DDs, 1 AC, 1 CA, 1 sub
      69.2% win, 30.8% loss

      Russian sub destroyed G1

      Germany: 1 ftr, 2 bmrs, 2 subs
      Allies: 2 ftrs, 2 DDs, 1 AC, 1 CA
      26.1% win, 73.9% loss

      Allies: 2 ftrs, 2 DDs, 1 AC, 1 CA
      60.5% win, 39.5% loss

      Germany: 2 ftrs, 2 bmrs, 3 subs
