it all depends on the players, some people never play axis, some never play allies, thats why bidding is my favourite.

RE: Favorite country
Russia is not boring if you play aggresive and if you play good with it, you can easily win the war for the allies. I cant see why US should be more fun, its fun to fight naval battles in the pacific with them, but shipping infantry into western europe over and over again bores me

RE: Radical U.S. First Turn Option
as i pointed out in an other post, offensive play is better then defensive play. I might only consider defence my main goal when playing germany and allies are going all out for me.
As an attacker you can choose the battlefield and your victims as well. People do not attack countries (in most cases…) if the result will be negative. By attacking countries you can gain a lot (only bad rolls give bad results), thats why my game is based on offensive play.
The allies should attack Germany and Japan whenever they can to give russia the opportunity to raise their NP to 30 or more. Thats my basic goal when playing allies.

RE: German Opening Move (w/RR and 2HBS)
if they get rocked…there infantry and most part of his armor gets rocked. Second turn you can counterattack with british forces and with your 4 russian tanks in russia. Its not easy to break a defence of 18 or 19 infantry combined with 2 fighters.

RE: Djensen, we need to organize the board again.
newbie help should be an addition. In that way questions about the game can be posted there, while strategies go into the seperate game boards.

RE: Too crowded
the original is the best, from what ive heard europe probably the worst. Europe gets crowded too in certain territories, it uses huge bomber units which will not even fit in tiny countries without any other units.
The problem might be that you are playing too defensive. I had the same problem when i just started playing, i ended up with huge forces in Eastern Europe and Karelia. Try to attack a bit more and see if that helps any.

Which is better? the board game or the CD game of A&A and/or A&AE ? are there many differences? around how much do each of them cost from a local store ?
what stores sell them?I think the CD makes it easier to learn how to play the game, but the boardgame looks way cooler  Both are the same game though. Costs about 10$ i think, but hard to find.

RE: What to use vs tanks
telling your opponent to not do that ever again  Doesnt matter what you do as long as you destroy em all by attacking.
-
RE: My board is so crowded!
use the white and red chips, white counts as 1 unit, red as 5 units. So if you have 8 infantry on a country and 3 tanks/armor then you can place 1 red chip and 2 white chips on top of it and on top of that 1 infantry unit, this represents 8 infantry (5+2+1).
Then place an armor unit on top of two white chips and there you go 3 armor. If this doesnt help, then use the blow up boxes at the top and the bottom of the map to place units.

RE: Few questions
no, yes and no
Land units can only be attacked by ships when being on a transport ship.
The manual says you should place every battle on the attack/defence chart, but after some time you will learn what values all the units have, so it wont be necessary, but since you just bought the game, i suggest fighting the battle on the chart.
And attack doesnt count for a movement. So Bombers can attack Japan from Hawaii, they move three to move above Japan, attack, then move three back to Hawaii. Only six movements here.

RE: When you attack…
all of the units. You cant take a country without destroying their armored division

RE: A&A tournaments, player rankings etc
kurt taught me  i know the rules now, haven’t played a game though.

RE: Does anyone have any tactics/advice for AAE?
i usually concentrate the russian infantry in BeloRussia and Ukraine and perform small counter attacks with tanks in Scandinavia, Africa and the Balkans. I send english and american planes and infantry to Russia to help out while i prepare for an invasion of Germany or to attack Germany’s tanks when weakly defended by infantry.

RE: AAP too confusing!!! Is AAE better?
A brief summary of the major differences between the two games (page 1, AAE manual):
1. Two new types of combat units - destroyers and artillery.
2. Allied IPCs (money) are subject to German naval attacks (Germany doesnt gain ipc’s by taking convoys, the allies only lose some…).
3.Players may not move into or fly over neutral countries.
4.There is no weapons development process.
5.Players may not build new Industrial Complexes.
6.Bombers conducting Strategic Bombing Raids may be escorted by friendly fighters and attacked by enemy fighters.
7.Battleships and submarines have new powers and abilities.
8. If German forces capture Middle East countries, Allies are forced to pay IPCs directly to Germany.
9. Order of play: Germany, Russia, UK, US.
10. Each country gets a special cash advance before the game starts.
11. The SU has special control over Allied units within home territories.Thats all, you can view the complete manual here:

RE: Euro Players looking for board game…
i managed finding a shop not too far away, so i dont need any help anymore

RE: 1st turn Japanese attack on Hawaii
attacking is superior to defending in several ways:
1. planes, ships and tanks can move to the battlefield from other territories, you cant move when defending a territory so you cant call in reinforcements from other territories.
2. The attacker chooses territory to attack, attacking troops and defending troops. Thats why a battle is most likely gonna end up in favour of the attacker and gonna hurt the defender more.
-
RE: 1st turn Japanese attack on Hawaii
i dont agree with that, a battleship and a carrier in the atlantic on turn 3 is lethal for germany. Battleships wont help much if the allies retreat their forces inland (sinkiang, china, yakut). Only Africa is then at risk of being captured thanks to the ships.
edit: same goes for fighters, they will help you capture terrain more easily but you will most likely run out of infantry sooner or later.

RE: Radical U.S. First Turn Option
you can do the technology thing with all nations. Not just US. I wouldnt suggest using it. The chances are very small you will gain a war winning technology, the changes are nevertheless far greaer that the dice roll will fail and you will end up one turn and a lot more military units behind.

RE: Rule Question
you can place new sea units there, if germany doesnt move its navy to another seazone next turn, combat will take place.
