A&A needs to tie into Universal’s monster library and move beyond zombies: mummies in Egypt, vampires in Romania, werewolves and invisible men in the UK, Frankenstein monsters in Central Europe, creatures from the Black Lagoon in Brazil, and to give the US something why not Abbott and Costello?

RE: G40 Benelux (Belgium/Netherlands/Luxembourg) Setup
This is a neat idea but amounts to a massive Allied bid; I wonder if one way to mitigate this is to remove UK/ANZAC custodianship of Dutch territories and treat them like those of any other vanquished nation (caveat being ANZAC’s Defensive Perimeter NO is modified to treat the Dutch like any other ally). This would encourage a Calcutta Crush with a limited UK Pac income but Japan has much more work to do to get the money islands, especially if ANZAC is reinforcing them. At this point I’d also add a French infantry to FIC for historical flavor.
One concession to the Axis could be to put a minor in Belgium-Holland which could give Germany more options for Sealion.

RE: MOVIES 2018
The problem with Solo for the uninitiated and even diehard Star Wars fan is there are many scenes where you can’t see the characters. Ron Howard is an old pro, wouldn’t he hire a competent director of photography? Unless he was saddled with holdovers from the previous crew.

RE: MOVIES 2018
Without even getting into anything else Solo features the worst cinematography of any Star Wars film, and it’s not even close.

RE: Subjective Complaints about AAZ (Zombies are stupid thread)
This thing is just plain goofy and incongruous to me, if we’re gonna infuse some pop culture to the game I’ll add Colonel Sherman Potter as a tiptop field surgeon (before he would go on to lead the 4077 later on in Korea) who can save one American infantry per turn. Then of course Colonel Bob Hogan can wreak havoc in Western Germany from his POW camp.

RE: AAZ details revealed (May 21 2018)
Are the infantry silhouette tokens on Western China and India meant to be deploy points for infantry only? I can’t imagine you can build new ICs in the game anyway.

RE: MOVIES 2018
I tend to agree with almost all of RLM’s commentary on Infinity Wars; it was long but they did a very capable job threading so many characters with serial comic-style mini-plots that worked.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZ-zAOnxikU
And they nailed the reason subverting norms worked so well for IW and failed miserably for Star Wars. The problem for SW is that Kathleen Kennedy and her cronies have done a terrible job establishing a framework for the films -we hear about drastic rewrites and reshoots far too often- while Marvel films are tightly planned and controlled -almost to a cynical level for a creative process, but hey, it works!
IW did a great job fleshing out a villain with far more depth than anything we’ve seen from these types of movies. As tired as I was of these movies I am interested in seeing the sequel, so the Disney churn continues…

RE: MOVIES 2018
Finally think I have hit the wall on Marvel superhero movies. Must have happened after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (which was a truly excellent film - saw it 3 times in theaters). I just found myself not caring anymore. Tried watching Spiderman Homecoming and found out I would rather sleep or watch Laurence of Arabia. Didn’t even make it halfway through. Haven’t seen any Marvel films since then. Seeing near invincible beings try to punch each other into submission has become trite.
Very similar situation for Star Wars. When there is no end in sight and the plots are repeated and there is only endless continuity, the films are not very interesting. Honestly, the only reason I may end up going to see Solo is to confirm this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjEd3DpH_e0
I think there is a high probability their ideas are in the actual film.
I know what you mean about Marvel and Star Wars saturation, it’s very much real. At this point I’m limping to the Infinity Wars finish line (I’ve invested this much already, I guess) and seeing every SW movie out of childhood sentimentality. I shouldn’t be feeding the beast like this, but this will eventually change.

RE: Whisky Thread
Grappa is definitely an acquired taste, I’d rather have Sambuca.
When going out I usually have Jameson, Bushmill’s or Dewar’s on the rocks or go with a Jack and coke.
On the rare opportunity I’m enjoying a cigar I drink Macallan.

2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs
Hard for me to pick a dog in this fight, and it’s not going to be Rangers South (Lightning). I’d like to see Lou Lamoriello pull of the hockey version of Theo Epstein (ended both the Red Sox and Cub droughts) but I don’t see it happening this year.
The Vegas Knights castle set looks like surplus inventory from Medieval Times or a bounce house factory. The pregame theatrics before the game were a 3rd-rate show from the Strip. Kudos to them for making the playoffs as a stacked expansion team, but the production is a Mickey Mouse operation, to borrow from The Great One.
Nashville feels like the prohibitive favorite in the west, I could see the Pens, Lightning or Bruins coming out of the east.

RE: Why isn't Mexico pro-allied neutral?
I like the idea of neutral countries that can only be activated by specific powers; for example only Russia can activate Mongolia and only the US can activate a neutral Mexico and Brazil (heck include Liberia) once they are at war on the respective maps. It’s similar to the special custodianship ANZAC and UK Pacific have with Dutch Territories on the Pacific Map. As I am aware, the US cannot put a control marker on a Dutch territory unless the Japanese (or another Axis power) took it first.
Unless they’re attacked the first turn, the US will lose 3 IPC but it’s not a huge hassle to activate Mexico once at war.
As mentioned previously, Sierra Leone should be part of the UK already.
Persia should be pro-Axis, but only if USSR’s Spread of Communism bonus was modified to focus on Continental Europe (could just make it original German and Italian territories). To make up for this you could add another infantry in West India I guess.

RE: West india ic
The combined UK economy could always upgrade the Calcutta minor, like a tax on 1st turn purchases to prevent radical changes to first turn moves. The important thing is the UK Pacific economy wouldn’t collapse if Calcutta fell.
-
RE: West india ic
One possible compromise for a combined UK economy would be to downgrade the Calcutta IC to a minor. The UK would then have the option of building a minor in West India the first turn for possible reinforcement of the area. While the UK could go all-in on a London defense early to shut down Sea Lion it would come at the expense of Calcutta units.

RE: G40 Redesign (currently taking suggestions)
This is on the subject of map modifications but I wonder if the designers intentionally gave the Kra Isthmus to Shan State to allow a connection to Malaya and cut off Siam to make a Japanese invasion a little more laborious? A land connection would allow an easy dumpoff of air units to Siam for a J2 attack without needing an amphibious assault. I’d be curious to see how this would play out in addition to a decent French presence (2 inf) in FIC to prevent the Japanese from walking in.

RE: Inaccuracies with the Eastern Territories of the Soviet Union/Global 1940 map

Well I thank the people That make these maps and if something’s not right oh well I don’t have the time or sources to make my own maps.
If there’s stuff you don’t like then by all means fix it yourself.
😉I have my own maps for download if you want them, I have modified A&A Europe to have Bessarabia moved to its correct location and so on.
There’s a few problems with the map you have presented me. For one, Bangladesh did not exist until 1971, after it gained independence from Pakistan. It only existed after 1971, after it ceased being “East Pakistan” and instead became Bangladesh.
Im good. I dont use G40 map. Thanks
What do you use then?
This map I use for my 40 game and HBG 39
I have something better. I got rid of the Canadian maple leaf roundel because that was not adopted until 1946, well after World War II and the Canadians (RCAF) used the British roundel during World War II. I changed the Dutch roundel to the Dutch flag roundel made famous in the East Indies that the Dutch used to denote the fact that they were at war and thus, no longer a neutral country, but in fact a member of the Allied powers.

I like the additional islands on the map, including Corsica, but with regards to the new Caribbean islands I would just make a “Lower Antilles” island group that belongs to the UK (to also represent custodianship of French and Dutch islands).
The only other thing I’d add is to carve the Aden Protectorate out of Saudi Arabia. Not terribly strategic but adds another landing spot for aircraft.

RE: MOVIES 2018
Black Panther is one of the best Marvel movies, due in large part to a well-drawn and acted badguy.

RE: The house on 92nd Str 1940 NYC
The real spy ring the film was based on focused on picking up intel for shipping, cracking the Manhattan Project was another thing altogether. But I can see why it’s a juicy film premise. One of Germany’s big problems was obtaining the material needed for the bomb, among other things.
For film what-ifs, I remember overhearing “Ya know, I really thought they were gonna kill Hitler!” after seeing Valkyrie in the theaters.

RE: The house on 92nd Str 1940 NYC
I’m very curious since I grew up on East 86th Street. I assume this was on the East Side of Manhattan since the Upper East Side was home to a large German community.

RE: Questions about AAZ
This could have potential if the zombies were used exclusively by a desperate Germany in 1944 in a Wolfenstein-y way. I guess they could have shared this tech with Japan as well. At that point the other Axis wonder weapons should be integrated as well.
