It seems I am the only one here who has a different opinion than everybody else :-D the thing with japan is that if you have good navy positioning, you’re starting navy should be enough to hold off the us for a couple of turns without you having to buy anything. During these precious turns, grab as much money as you can in Asia, and then use this income to have an arms race with the US.
If you start purchasing navy right off the bat, the India will wipe you off off Asia. This doesn’t even take into account russian pressure from the north. So in my opinion, only make navy buys when you have the income to afford it.
(P.S If you dont do pearl harbor, the us can pretty much put pressure on you without buying anything at all, let alone going 100% pacific.
So I had a game last night with my friends and of course i was japan (drew lots) and on round 4 the US had 3 fully fleshed out fleets in the water (he spent all his money in the pacific for a few turns) took Borneo, and now has my fleet huddled around tokyo. China somehow screwed me over (don’t ask me how) and now has a factory in Szechwan with a lot of Russian infantry in yunnan and anhwei.
In this scenario, it is alright to build a factory in Manchuria since the only way for me to actually get a transport fleet going is if the us actually turns his attention to Germany (who is doing pretty good)?

I have come across a lot of articles on this board and getting a mixed bag of answers when it comes to this question. Is it worth butting an IC on Manchuria, and if so, what turn? My usual buy with japan is 1 DD, 2TP, spend the rest on infantry and save 2 bucks, but if the US just decides to go after me with his entire budget, its going to be hard to ferry troops with the US usually on my back door, so Ill build a factory on either french indo china, or Manchuria depending on who i’m pushing for.
So I would like to know what are your opinions on this topic?
Sincerely, Hitler
Thx for the replies :-D

Im not really into global ( im with the 1942.2’ers) but i just wanted to ask grasshopper, when are u starting you youtube channel back up? i dont have the money to buy global so I need something to help me familiarize myself with one of the biggest WWII games on the planet.

I mean you could get all the peices if u wanted a makeshift version, but like what Teslas said it would be much cheaper to get the actual thing. Besides, its nothing like opening up the box and smelling the smell of… new.
But if your positive you want to take this path, Historical board game i believe provides all the miniatures you need. Mind you the peices (specifically infantry) cost 10 cents a pop, so if you want enough for setup and reserve it might cost a bunch. Plus you’ll need the roundels and dice, and also the chips, so that’s a lot of spending.

Just wanted to ask, lets say your Germany and you have made it to the gates of Moscow, ready to roll the dice to start the big battle. lets say you bring you bomber in for a strategic bombing raid incase the attack fails to make sure Russia cant build anything out of the factory.
lets say the attack is succesfull and you plunge Moscow. At this point, Russia is German territory, so would you technically be doing a bombing raid on your own territory?

I believe you roll seperately for subs, as explained by the suprise strike phase in the rulebook. However, planes i believe roll with the other combat units. For example, i have 2 fighters and 2 destroyers vs a BB and 2 subs. before the attacker rolls, the defending subs choose to either submerge or strike. If they submerge, they immediatly get put back on the game board. If they choose suprise strike, they roll and if both roll on a 1, the 2 destroyers are removed instantly since subs cant hit fighters. Then, the attackers roll normally along with the defending BB. This repeats until the BB is destroyed.

In response to Elk, I feel stuck when it comes to making asian advancements. Basically UK will pump 2 fighters a turn in India and 1 destroyer in london every turn. With this method, he can have superb power projection, meaning i cant get close to india. ( When im playing the allies, I tried to get him to send at least 1 fighter a turn to russia, but he says he needs it for “Indian defense” and cant afford to give me any.) so while hes pumping fighters off of india, I try to push through china and the UK will be sucking up the money islands (he has INSANE luck with the sz37 battle) and the us buys some destroyers and subs just to throw something at me while hes focused in eurpoe. As soon as i make any progress in asia, my fleets destroyed, and i just stack tokyo until the us diverts there attention from the eurpoean theatre to me. So, Im wondering, how do i make progress in asia without my fleet getting totally anniahlated?

Wondering if anyone really builds a china IC. I think its viable to pressure japan with china, however you need heavy support from russia. So just wondering if anybody does this strategy.
ah the infantry push. The only method in classic and revised that mattered. :-D However in this since the ipc count has been cut down rigorously, the infantry push can be countered more easliy in this version than otheres. In fact, i think tank buys (at least for germany) are the best option in this game.

1. im sorta ok with transports not defending themselves. Gone are the days of stacks of transports defeating battleships and destroyers. Transports do have light armament, but not enough to sink a battleship. I do have a house rule that you can only destroy the amount of transports as the number of attacking units, to avoid the unrealistic destroying of infinite trasnports.
2. The reason for this is to prevent germany from collapsing too quickly. Think about it, at most germany is going to have to survive a 123 punch by the allies. Of course, thats in theory, as allied help only really takes place turn 4. If you can keep russia alive until then, the allies have a good chane of winning.
3. And thats exactly the reason it was reduced to 3. 6 tanks a turn? theres no chane for germany to win under those circumstances.
4. I partially agree. It takes too much pressure of of germany to go KJF, and its pretty much up to russia to hold out bar a little fighter support and withstand the onslaught of germany. So basically its easier for russia to fall, but if it can hold, or they can take tokyo fast enough, the allies can win (Russia seams like the only country that has to hold in this game :|)
5. its not that UK is poor, it actually has a pretty average income. Its just they have a million things to do like take the money islands, make sure germany doesnt get africa, help russia, prop up india, etc. They can drop a navy, you just can’t let africa go until something like G3.
I was looking at 1914 and it is certainly different as a departure (though on a good note) of the old A&A formula. The only prob i have is austria hungary being absurdley more powerful than russia. But other than that, i seem to like it (1942.2 is better simply due to the fact that the map is big enough, and russia actually has units.)
Sincerely, Hitler
i agree. I wonder what motivated them to double the size of the atlantic. In a already axis biased games, the allies have to wait a whole extra turn just to do anything meaningful. The only thing that can actually reach the european theatre quick enough to prop up russia is a fighter transit, and even that does’nt even put real pressure on germany.
Sincerely, Hitler
You only play 1941? its a good game but you’ll want to crave more sooner than later at some point. Back on topic, 1941 is more like an indroductory game, but not for people who havent been out of the the game for a while as they’ve radically changed the ipc count and ruleset. But if your happy, more power to you. :-D
Sincerely, Hitler
I think that you should buy a mix, as even though the bombers range is better, its usually cheaper and you can maintain your air wall better ( a stack of juicy bombers is like handing the luftwaffe on a silver platter to stalin) if you threw in some Fighters. Basically, ill buy 1 fighter, 1 bomber, and 6 infantry the first turn, 2 fighters and 7 infantry the second, and 2 bombers and 5 infantry the third. Of course i’m not a pro, but this is the air build that ill do with germany.
Since germany’s offensive power is already overpowered in the first place, so basically all you need is a steady amount of infantry to protect them and the aircraft are there for power projection and versitility (theres nothing like beating a battleship with a fighter and a bomber). Like you said, Britain is going to try to climb out of an unclimable hole when trying to build a navy unless the US completely gives up japan and goes KGF.
TLDR: throw in some fighters for defense so you wont have worry about where you land your bombers, and for a cheaper cost.
As with japan, i think they have other obligations than to sbr russia, like holding off the us and pushing for india and or china etc.
Sincerely, Hitler
Black elk, it is apparent to me that you like to create walls of text in reply to anwsers. I have nothing wrong with it, infact i enjoy it, but what compels you to write essays in response to a question? (also can you do a japan guide, as i am a TERRIBLE japanese player.)
Sincerely, Hitler
Thx for the link, as my friend does kind of tunnel vision on objectives for a bit too long (He’ll ignore britain if gunning for the russia). I guess i keep the russian bomber as like you said its good to use while light trading, though my main reason for using it is to try and free up sz 5, so the americans and british can unload.
(P.S., do you think i should have bought A&A 1914, or bought 1942.2?)
Sincerely, Hitler
I will usually go with a russian bomber, due to Black elk’s reasons. 12 ipc’s seems like a good deal, though some people dont like to spend it all on one unit. But russia will have some flexibility with it, as in the sz 5 attack, or just sbr germany.
Sincerely, Hitler
Well we just finished our game, and guess what, the allies won! :-D I tried to remeber all the tips you guys gave me (extra thanks to herr rommel) and as it turns out, japan tried to stretch herself too thin, and wind up trying to take china, india, east russia, and all the while trying to hold off the us. Once the us slapped a fully loaded carrier and some transports plus the battleship all off the coast of alaska, japan just pretty much gave up and turtled. Moscow still fell, (Hitlers Lufftwafe got some lucky hits) but we captured tokyo a full round before stalin surrendered. Also, germany was too focused on russia leaving africa completley open, leaving the uk to deal with india and japan. so we took shanghai and manilla, and won the default game.
i want to thank you guys for the tips, as the only reason we really won was because after the ukraine strafe ( that went amazingly well) germany tried to stack ukraine even more, with japan trying to send fighters and completley ignorging africa. So basically the uk was unscathed besides the routine G1 fleet mutaliation and pretty much did a KJF.
feeling as we did so well (stalin did all he could) should i really keep the russian bomber? I used it as i think i could balance the game but it seems like the allies did so good they dont need it.
Anyway, thank you for all your’re support, and i will keep it in mind for my next game. :-D
Sincerely, Hitler ( Rommel is his best general)
