Facilities should become damaged when captured. Currently, the only loss resulting from capture is downgrading major ICs to minor IC (aside from ICs in China being destroyed). This primarily benefits Germany, which can gain 3 Russian minor ICs, plus 3 bases, at no cost, aside from SBR damage by Axis. I propose that captured minor ICs and bases should receive maximum damage (6 points) each time they are captured, due to battle damage or deliberate demolition by retreating enemy.

@Witt @aequitas-et-veritas Happy birthday to the both of you. How coincidental.

Austria mourns the lose of Zeppa. After a distinguished career terrorizing the Entente, burning Paris, London and his favorite target Rome, he pushed his luck one time too far and was shot down by AA fire over Rome. His crew wanted him to wait out the season, so he could join in the land attack against Italy. But that wasn’t his style, preferring to fly solo or with his partner Zepbe. RIP Zeppa.

RE: NML 1914 - Team Game #5
@witt Of course, you were UK last game.
I hope you try a novel strategy instead of the same old Paris fetish.
The final jeopardy category a day or two ago was “famous ships”. The question was what ship wreck was located in 1989, 48 years after it sank and 96 years after the death of the person that it was named for. 2 contestants chose the Andrea Doria, but the current champion and I knew it was the Bismarck. -
RE: NML 1914 Team Game 7
Wow, Sweden is a tough neighborhood. Both neutral defenders hit. Then the Brits weakened me for the Ruskies to take their shot. Less than half of my 16-man army survived the first turn. Good thing I take HGs along with me. Finland bulked up quickly. May have to stay in Sweden for a massage from a blonde beauty and eat some Swedish meatballs.

RE: NML 1914 Team Game 8
@colt45554 8 more hits and I received 6. You were down to 2 damaged BB’s, so I took the second DD instead. I just sank your fleet.

RE: NML 1914 Team Game 8
Yesterday was the 127th running of the Boston Marathon… Its the oldest, most famous and prestigious modern marathon. Its been ten years since the Boston Marathon bombing on April 15, 2013. The race is always run on Patriots Day, which is always on a Monday.
I commemorated it by running 3 1/3 miles around the neighborhood in my 2013 running outfit that my wife bought at the running store at the finish line, just hours before the bombing.
Being a New York born Yankee, I didn’t appreciate Boston until I ran the 2009 and 2013 marathons and experienced the hospitality of the city and the comradery of the friendly worldwide competition. That’s what made the bombing so senseless and sad.In 2013, I crossed the finish line 23 minutes before the bomb blasts. My time was 3 hours, 46 minutes. Pretty decent for being 65 years old at the time. I felt bad for those who were prevented from finishing, after running 25 miles, because the race was halted.

Ground troops taking hits instead of planes
A&A’s revised rules to prevent using transports to take hits instead of combat ships, was a great improvement. But cheap ground troops are still being taken as hits instead of more expensive and powerful planes. In real life, air superiority comes first. Defending fighters intercept attacking bombers, TAC and their escorting fighters, before attacking infantry. Attacking planes try to establish air superiority before attacking ground troops. Changing this may be impractical, because of the imbalance in air forces between opponents. But as a suggestion, use the same protocol as BalMod does for Strategic Bombing Raids. Start land battles with an air battle of 1 or 2 turns, with fighters attacking and defending at 2; and bombers and TAC attacking and defending at 1. Then like SBR, AA fire comes next. Survivors would go on to join in the regular land battle. Perhaps attacking planes might have a limit on how many rounds of dice they could fire.

RE: Beating J1
@shadowhawk If the Japanese tt can’t prevent U.S. tt from moving into sz6, then the U.S. tt also doesn’t prevent Japanese tt from leaving sz6 during combat move. Only a warship would prevent loading.

RE: 1914 #2 Witt & Elrood (CP) vs Rommel & PP (Ent)
What a rollercoaster ride. Germany rolls great to start the game. Austria doesn’t retreat after early losses and is wiped out as Serbia makes a heroic defense. In great shape, but doesn’t build trenches. Then Turks roll +4.67 and take Greece for 20 cash and Serbs can’t build next turn and lost their advantage. Turks also aggressively take Basra, Kuwait and Georgia. Can the Bedouin camel cavalry come to the rescue?

RE: Wizmark (X) vs FMEd (L) BM3 G2
I concede the game. Despite sinking the Japanese fleet and later defeating the stronger German army in southern Russia due to great dice, its hopeless. On to the rematch, where I hope that the Axis continues to win. I enjoyed the game, you are a worthy opponent. I will post my concession in the league results forum.

Triplea game launcher battle calculator problem with UK Pacific
When using the battle calculator to test Japan vs UK in UK Pacific territories such as India, the calculator default uses UK Pacific, rather than British. This always produces a zero win result for an allied attack, because in Triplea, all UK Pacific fighting units are converted to and tagged as British units. UK Pacific should not be an option on the list of countries, or the default setting for units in UK Pacific territories. Please remove UK Pacific from the battle calculator app.

My ancestry is half Italian, great grandparents. So I was rooting for them also. Witt is still celebrating or recovering from it, so he can’t take his turn today.

RE: Corrupted game file stops 1st strike combat in 1914 NML
@barnee Thanks. Turns out one team player was using an ancient version of Triplea engine. We’ll just have to manually adjust for the few land battles that use gas. Most players will build DD’s making first strike less relevant.

RE: NML 1914 - Team Game #1
Attacked Austrian controlled Tuscany for one round just to weaken him disproportionately to prevent him taking Pied. Battle odds were he would lose 8 inf and I would lose only 4 inf. Austria rolled above average, but he still lost more. Since his inf were supported by artillery, he would lose attack of 2, same as my defenders. More importantly, most Austrian infantry were in Tusc, while artillery were in Milan. So remaining army is mostly artillery, with few grunts to take hits. Same for Austrian builds in Venice and Trieste. I forgot to take amphib artillery as a hit, so it went second round. Finally got tech which helps defense.

Make paratrooper unit standard in 1940 Global Bal Mod
I propose adding paratroopers as standard units to Global 1940 Bal Mod, just like marines and not as tech R&D. Paratroopers are specially trained units, like marines, but didn’t require advanced R&D to develop in real life. The Germans invaded Crete with paratroopers in May 1941. Paratrooper units would be more universally playable than marines, which are only useful for a few countries, such as Italy in the Med and Japan and the U.S. in the Pacific. 1940 BM adds more National Objectives related to the Med islands. If UK or Italy controls the Med, its hard for the other power to break in. Paratroopers would be very useful in contesting the Med. But paratroopers could also be used in land-based campaigns and in Sea Lion. This could have a significant effect on regular game play. Has anyone used paratroopers in games using R&D tech?

RE: FMErwinRommel (X) vs Wizmark (L+16) BM3
Congrats on China being able to open up the Burma road, gaining a 3 point N.O. and being able to build artillery. I haven’t planned a game in recent memory when China was able to build artillery, woohoo. My aunt was a nurse in the India theater during WWII. Pity I never asked her about her experience there while she was alive.
