Public polls and opinion factor well into our government’s view of itself. Any administration is always looking to it’s next election win. I doubt ANY political party in this country would gain ANY public support with a platform “Send your daughters to die in foreign wars!”. President Bush is hard selling a possible mostly “male” war in Iraq, if co-ed or strictly female frontline units existed, it would be even harder. Americans have little stomach for their sons going off to die, let alone their daughters : insane!!!
Again Americans are not ready for this. They don’t want war at all, the result is always dead sons…and DAUGHTERS !!! HELL NO, NOBODY GOES !!!

RE: Should the Draft be extended to Women?
A draft would mean possibly full battalions or even divisions of infantry of women. I doubt the generation of our leaders could handle the fact that in a combat situation where large groups of female units (in the 100’s or 1000’s) were encircled, slaughtered or forced to surrender subjected to the horror’s of a POW including rape. Is the US public at large ready to face this possibility?
I personally agree that women should be included in the draft. But the role of them in direct heavy combat situations (frontline infantry) the country I believe is not ready to accept…

RE: Religion, Why?
Emugod- I rarely get a chance over here in the USA to fly over to the Middle East and sit in on a Religious Leaders’ propaganda rantings. Be realistic, do you really think the Jews and Muslims would be fighting this long if their leaders (religious leaders) said not to? Do you really think all the wars and killing are done by the extremists only? Of course I have no examples of preaching, be serious. Who’s ordering all the killing?
I think your confusing atheism and anarchism. Few atheists want no laws or punishments. Again, be realistic, we all have an investment in society. The only laws there are are MAN’s, they’re the ones that put you in jail for being bad. Man needs to keep society and civilization going, stop killing in the name of your Gods…

RE: Religion, Why?
Emugod - I doubt many religious groups have “written” hatred towards other groups. I’m certain at times it is preached however…

RE: If the world was a village of 100..
DeviantS - That’s right. Most people in the US trying to put food on their own table, aren’t always happy watching our government give away millions to foreigners. Give me 100 grand, and it will take the edge off my worries…

RE: Cloning….
Apart from the religious hailstorm is the legal issues. Cloning could lead to a form of slavery if companies own human clones for the sake of medical research. Later, cloning for hard labor work or war is just the next step…All this…Very bad me thinks…

RE: Religion, Why?
I don’t put much worry into what extremist yahoo’s like Rev. Falwell say. Clearly a blind general grouping of Atheists, Communists, Drug Dealers, etc. doesn’t require an educated response. Organized Religion still serves a purpose or people would do away with it. Some might say that is the current “trend”, however I doubt any census will show a massive shift away from it. We won’t see any major religious changes this millenium, our big three monotheistic groups are still going through motions.
Try as we will to voice our opinions to change or stump minds into second guessing their beliefs, it all boils down to your own faith. Only you, can change your mind, if you dare. All opinions and “evidence” is right there in front of us, in the end you interpret for yourself what makes sense to you and well, there you have it. If my atheism is incorrect in death, well, hopefully points are awarded to my unchanged beliefs, and let the cards fall as they may.
I’m certain if religion wasn’t invented, people would find another reason to kill. People do. As it may sound heretical to kill in the name of one’s “God”, people have found reasons to do so for a long time. Most of the “real” reasons for doing so have nothing to do with God, but man’s own greed for power or wealth. For thousands of years, all of civilization, no God has been able to prevent this; nor does Man want to…

RE: If the world was a village of 100..
Americans are bred isolated from such realisms of the world. Later in life, ignorance, resulting from the long built isolation, keeps the cycle going on indefinitely. Even those “enlightened” in these realisms feel powerless to effect them. Return to their job, the house, the kids, the car, the vacations, the fast food, the computer…

A sad chapter in US WWII history, born out of fear. Some Japanese-Americans fought the Germans in Europe, while their families lost everything and got detained in camps…
Considering what the Allies found in the death and concentration camps, Pearl was not as “brutal”…
The bomb was planned for Germany, but the war ended before it could be used…
After the fall of Poland, Hitler’s self-professed genius in military strategy kept proving his general’s wrong. They would not question him again, his power and prestige was too great (and the fear of the Gestapo!)…

RE: Could Germany have won "the Great Patriotic War?"
The British Parliament and Public would not allow it. Not after Austria, Czechoslovakia, Poland, and France were gone.
How would Pearl Harbor figure into this? Would it have happened? If so, would the German’s fight the USA? The UK would be drawn into it sooner or later. With all energies facing East, Germany’s goose is still cooked… -
RE: Christian Fundamentalism ?
As long as the extremist’s rantings and ravings don’t become national policy, as in Hitler’s Germany, they can say what they want. Take it with a grain of salt. There’s wacko’s on all sides of the fence…

RE: The Existence of God
I thought Roman executions were spectator sport’s regardless of the victim’s celebrity status. Jewish leaders at that time were very weary of troublemakers (regardless of their message) who could be listed as “revolutionaries” by the Roman authorities. They wanted to hold onto what little control and power they still retained. Some versions of the story make it seem that the Jewish leadership was “out to get Jesus”, but it may be more that they were trying to keep their own puppet positions while they still could. More “people” oriented leadership feared strict fallout from the Romans…
