You can expand the original question of this post to include whether or not the German people of today should feel guilty for the sins of the Nazi’s. The Nazi’s deemed my Slavic brothers in Central and Eastern Europe “sub-human” and planned them to be directed to the death/labor camps after the Jews. Do I hold that against the present day German - certainly NOT !

RE: On the Existence of "God"
The Protestant Reformation was born in Germany, but it sounds like you may have grown up in a strong Catholic area anyway. Where I grew up in New Jersey was like that as well. If you are still searching for a more agreeable Christian group to join, Germany should have various groups such as the Lutherans or Calvinists to check out hopefully within a local area…

RE: On the Existence of "God"
I’ve seen that Protestant services are more of a celebration of God and life. Alot of singing and such. Catholic services deal with ritual and ceremony. The sermons however, do present a moral lesson or a New Testament event.
thesquire- Is your fiance’ Catholic or Protestant? A digruntled Catholic moving to a Protestant arena may enjoy Church more… -
RE: On the Existence of "God"
I’m detecting a little “hate-Atheism” from the author of this post. Clearly we all agree that the existence of any diety is beyond proof or disproof if you will. As stated earlier, all we have is our personal beliefs and/or opinions in which to conduct this discussion. It seems rather out of bounds to declare any belief system is invalid or wrong. A rather arrogant and ignorant statement. Our free societies are lucky to have religious freedoms. That includes (like it or not) us atheists. The right to believe or not without pressures from government or other groups. Places like this site where one can openly discuss it.
Please tell us Janus WHY you feel as you do. I hope it’s not because the malls are too crowded in December. It seems from your original post you need to brush up on pre-civilization human history if you want to know where beliefs in gods and the start of religion originates from. Our current groups are merely present day forms of our ancestors first take on the world and cosmos.
As an atheist I find myself defending the deists on this thread. That’s the problem with atheist’s - no central belief system. All have personal interpretations on even the simple dictionary definition of the word.
So what do you say Janus, tell us your thoughts…

RE: Desputing Evolution or the bible
Don’t assume what all atheists may consider truth or supernatural. An atheist simply does not believe in the existence of any diety. We must leave it at that. As for evolution, we’ve known for some time that Darwin’s and other’s theories are full of holes. Our acceptance and understanding of that theory (or science) must also EVOLVE with better and newer information. As for truth, this can easily be manipulated to fit one’s belief’s. What I believe is true may not agree with your truth. Who’s right? Who knows…

Initially the Allies might have to play defensive in Africa/Middle East, until amphibious re-enforcements come from London or Washington (turn 2 or 3). A South African UK IC is tempting to a Japanese player to take…

OK, don’t want to touch much of your last post. I would recommend NOT doing anything rash out of anger. Joining military service is one of those life altering decisions: choose wisely and carefully…

RE: Consequences of Attacking Nazi Germany in 1937
CC - agreed. Saddam has the potential to make this war a longer lasting, ugly, guerilla war. I just keep remembering reading about the hardships the German, British, Italian and later American soldiers had in North Africa. I visited Israel in 1991. Got a taste of the desert there. No thank you…

RE: Military experience?
Dan - I was a Navigation Electronics Technician onboard a fast attack submarine (USS BOSTON SSN-703). Basically, I operated and repaired all electronic gear that told us where we were. Had a good experience, achieved all goals for entering the Navy: received schools I wanted, got to see some of the world, and got to be part of a ship’s crew. Keep your goals always in mind. Spent 6 years active duty, 4.5 on the “boat”. As for college, I had little interest in it. I didn’t want to waste time and money (like a lot of my friends ended up doing) in college just to drop out later.
If your 22, you’ve had 4 yrs in the working sector already. If you’re really still uncertain, keep reviewing your options. I found I had a lot of little reasons that ultimately led me to join…

RE: Consequences of Attacking Nazi Germany in 1937
Wrong thread - yes and no. There’s a lot of “what if” discussion on Hitler and his Regime. Several times he could have faced an earlier finish that could have saved the world from alot of pain and suffering. Clearly that war still shapes our world and makes our decisions today…

RE: Consequences of Attacking Nazi Germany in 1937
This is the mentality that has us in Iraq at this moment. Some will say, “look what happens when the US stays out of the world scene!”, refering to WWII. I have misgivings about us being the world’s policeman, I hardly think Saddam can cause as much harm as Hitler. Europe obviously looks at us with discontent, since they think we’re treating them all as “children” who need direction and an occasional spanking “Iraq”. Clearly the world all read Hitler wrong, they all had problems and agendas of their own. Then, peace at all costs, cost the world the bloodiest war in history. Shall we as Americans give our Commander in Chief a little slack and say that he may have the intelligence that caused us to go to war? I say yes, rally behind him and most important our fighting troops who need our support. When it’s over we can go back and critique. I was against military action. But now that that decision is made, it’s time to be good soldiers and support. Remember, the President is making a difficult and sacrificing choice: will the lives lost in this war be less if we did not? Will other American city be attacked? Would the war be worse down the road, 1 year, 5 years, or 10? Will world economies fail either way?
Clearly we free Americans have the right to protest. But who is it really hurting? -
RE: Military experience?
Dan - I’m a Navy Vet 1986-1992. If you do enlist, ensure you get in writing a contract for a school. You’ll have to decide on a career path, say electronics, for example. Leave all options open when trying to choose initially. Try to get into a job that has a civilian equivilant, regardless if your thinking of a military career or not. Try not to fall into recruiter pressure tactics. They have quota’s to fill and will say alot to get you to sign that paper. Check and double check the other branches again. Sometimes other recruiting offices will be more helpful than others. If your about to “sign your life away” as we used to say, try to get the best deal you can. Also, if your looking to improve your physical abilities, teamwork, work ethics, self discipline, see the world, etc., it’s a great place to start…

RE: Iraq executest POW's, violates Geneva Convention, no Protest
Are we all that really shocked that Iraq is fighting “dirty”? Saddam has had plenty of time to think about how to conduct the war. This is just the beginning, wait until we hit the streets of Bagdad. That’s when the blood will really start to flow…
