That’s what I thought. I must have missed the part where Japan had already declared War.

US Movements prior to War
I guess I must have “misread” somewhere, but I thought the US couldn’t move outside the US until at War with Axis in the Atlantic. I’m reading where some US players are flying bombers and aircraft off of US and getting them to UK prior to being at War?
Is this new Alpha 3 rule or did I miss something in Alpha 2?
Thanks,

RE: .
On the back of the Pacific 1940 Rule Book is the number for WotC. You can call them and tell them you bought the Pac 1940 game and it doesn’t have all the pieces.
They will take all your info and send you out a pack of pieces and a battleboard. You should get them in about a week or so.
They know the routine on this issue.

RE: Why defend Italy when you can defend South france?
Gibraltor is the best landing spot when then can enter the war. From this spot, they can land just about anywhere they want.
UK
Normandy
Southern France
Northern Italy
Southern Italy
Denmark
Western Germany (If UK can take Denmark ahead of them and hold it)
NorwayWith the Naval Base damaged, they can only reach Normandy or Southern France.
Remember, “If you defend everywhere, you defend no where.”
Bombing the Naval Base takes pressure off of the Axis. Germany will gain another turn not worrying if the US is going to attack Italy or land in UK or Norway or where ever. They can concentrate on Normandy and Southern France. Or let Italy defend Southern France and Germany Normandy.
I find it very interesting and will make plans to use this.

RE: I think i have an idea of what we can use for Airbase peices.
The group I play with have taken one board setup and put stickers on the board for the air bases and naval base. They are always part of the setup and cannot be moved. If they are damaged, we put damaged makers on top of the base. Pretty easy and cheap. You can make them look like anything you want.

RE: Why defend Italy when you can defend South france?
The US would have to take over Gibraltor after the Axis have taken AND the UK doesn’t have a capital at the same time. That would be the only way.

RE: Why defend Italy when you can defend South france?
I like the bombing of the naval base in Gibraltor. Makes sense to do it on turn 1 though. Especially since Italy has the bomber with the new setup.
If Italy bombs Gibraltor on Turn 1, the British have 2 choices. Leave it bombed since USA isn’t in it yet and spend money elsewhere, or fix it right away and take money away from them. Either way it’s a good strategy for the Axis.
I will definitely make this part of my plan the next time I play (maybe tomorrow).

RE: 94Canuck's Global 1940 Alpha +3 Setup Charts and Game Aids
Canuck, great job on these. Very Professional.
I do have one observation. You forgot Italy’s SZ 96 with 1 Destroyer and 1 Transport.
Thanks again,

RE: What do you do with italy???
Italy has 3 very important things to do.
1 - Take Cairo (and North Africa)
2 - Punch a hole in the Eastern Front for Germany on turn 4.
3 - Take over the oil fields in the Middle East.
Once you do these, the sky’s the limit for Italy.

RE: Sea/Air Battle question.
Thanks for all your answers.
Basically a buddy of mine was arguing that if you take the carrier out, the planes automatically die immediately because it would be considered a Kamikazi run and you have to re-evaluate the situation each round of combat.
We argued no due to the fact that the carrier was it’s intended landing spot. We chose to destroy the carrier and keep the fighters in the battle and then they would die at the end of the combat phase.
Thanks

RE: Sea/Air Battle question.
I understand all that. The question still remains….
Is it after the round of combat the carrier is destroyed? Or after the combat round?
-
Sea/Air Battle question.
Here is our scenario that happened yesterday that we would like some clarification on….
One Carrier with 1 plane attacks. The attacker also flies in another air craft to join the battle knowing it is going to land on the carrier at the end of the battle.
The attacker chooses to kill off his carrier instead of taking the losses on the planes.
We know he can do this but want to know when the planes are taken as casualties? Is it after the round the carrier is destroyed, or at the end of the combat and the planes can continue? Or does he have to take the carrier as a last casualty?

RE: Amphib Question - QUICK ANSWER PLEASE!!
So the planes can “patrol” the sea zone in case of scramble?
-
Amphib Question - QUICK ANSWER PLEASE!!
4 transports loaded attacking area with airfield. No other ships. He is bringing aircraft with him. Do they get to defend against scrambling aircraft or are they only be used for the land battle only?

RE: Operation Hollywood : Flying the Japanese Air Force off the coast of Gilbraltar
Seems interesting.
However…
IF Japan can get to Gibraltor and land there, doesn’t that AUTOMATICALLY bring US into the War? If I remember correctly, Japan cannot attack (or land) on any UK territory without bringing the US into the war. If Japan does land on Gibraltor and bring the US into the War, the US factories AUTOMATICALLY AND IMMEDIATELY get made into Major Factories. Even if they only have 52 IPC, That is plenty to hold off any invasion on Japan Turn 4.
Also, on a side note, if I saw this as the UK player, I would put at least one ship in the way somehow. Even if it’s to make you not be able to reach Washington.
I like the idea, but the Allies would have to be idiots to let this happen.

RE: The best 166 IPC Fleet.
Aren’t the first 3 turns only 156 IPC’s? 52x3=156. Or are you talking in general 3 turns worth throughout the game?
Anyways, you can never just concentrate on one theater for 3 straight turns unless you plan on losing. You have to give some to Europe side of the board.

RE: Do you raid?
SBR is really an Allies Tactic. Not so useful for the Germans. The Germans bombed the UK (Battle of Britain) but everything I see and read on it was they bombed the cities (political purposes) or the hit the wrong airfields, hit shipping ports and bombed shipping targets.
Only the UK and US really used SBR to it’s fullest. They went right to the heart of German production. Killing it’s ability to produce anything.
-
RE: Viability of SBR rules
Strategic bombing is a necessary tactic for the allies. The US has to build Bombers as well as the UK. Make the Germans pay. They can’t protect the complexes and use the fighters in the East at the same time. Something will have to give. This is something that pay off in the long run. It’s not as noticeable on one turn but over the course of the game.

RE: The use of R&D
We play a variant of the Anniversary Edition rules…
1 - You buy a token. If you don’t hit, you can role it until you do.
2 - When you do hit, You pick which chart you want to use.
3 - If you do NOT like what was rolled, you may pass until the next turn and role the choice again. However, you HAVE to take it this time.Better chances of getting something useful.

Soviet-Japan pact questions…
I know the Soviets and Japs have their own rules as far as War goes. But I have the following questions to make sure.
1 - Japan or USSR attakcs. They get 12 IPC immediately or at the collect income phase of their next turn?
2 - If Japan attacks USSR, does it bring the US or UK into the War on the Pacific side?
3 - If No with the US, does Japan still collect their 10 ipc’s for not being at War?
Thanks
