With the newest rules, could one do a turn 3 India and UK sack with Germany and Japan? I haven’t looked at the board in so long since box rules.

RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion thread
Any updates on the France and ANZAC combat dice?
Agreed, we need an update on the dice FM.

RE: AAG40 FAQ
Just wanted to know… What is the reasoning behind not being able to declare Bombardment ships and Sea battle ships in an amphibious assault?
It seems kind of stupid to have Japan making just 1 Destroyer to stop 20 Battleship Bombardments does it not?
If you fail the sea battle, the amphibious assault and bombardment ships would just automatically die right? (getting sneaked attacked by the victorious sea battle enemy?)

Quick Transport Question
USA attacked 12 German subs with planes and 3 destroyers and a transport, the planes killed everything but 1 German sub and killed all USA destroyers but not the transports. USA can no longer attack normandy because the sub stops it, but does the German Sub kill the Transport?
Edit: sorry, the sub also submerged with the transport still alive!

RE: Sealion Alpha#2 how/when and is it worth it?
Ghr2 is right mantle, you need a turn before russia attacks! Use the london money to prep for russia or the american fleet… whichever is more threatening! Like I said earilier, have Italy set it up so it’s appealing to attack them (aka keep the UK fleet in the Med).
Hopefully you understand a little bit better Zcion. The Sealion is different in all the games of Global. One time I was Germany, and was prepping for a Sealion and I failed my France attack! Italy had to pick it up! I was so mad, but went for the Sealion anyway, my UK player thought that since I didn’t have enough cash for a Sealion… he thought I was going for Russia. Boy was he surprised lol.

RE: Little and quick question about Scrambles
Can you point me out where I can see these rules changes please ?

RE: Sealion Alpha#2 how/when and is it worth it?
You can only get lucky for a G2 Sealion with a dumb UK player. G3 is the ticket winner getting you London.
You have to set it up so you don’t lose any planes G1-2, you lose planes, Sealion is that much harder for you. You build enough fodder for your invasion, and you kill UK navy in a 2-turn process. Make sure Italy disrupts the UK Med. fleet from going North.
The only way it’s even a 50/50 is if UK defends hard and pulls every single thing they have back to London, and build nothing but Infantry. I think you need to re-look at the situation UK is really in!
-
RE: Hardest Nation to play
Germany hands down. 9/10 times it’s up to Germany to carry the entire war. Italy depends on its ability to rock out with it’s hanky out!
-
RE: Changes still needed to the game, IMHO
Id prefer italy not in the war round 1 and UK cant attack italy R1
Doesn’t make sense historically not to have Italy at war already lol… Italy and Germany are allied and warring UK/France 1940 at the start of the game.
Having 2 German planes on Southern Italy gives them a boon and a fighting chance R1 IMO.
-
RE: G1-Sz 110: Which German planes do you attack with?
The reason oztea doesn’t attack 110 on G1 is because of the high risk to planes.
If you’re feeling lucky, and you can take out both Battleships on G1, use 3 Fighters and 3 Tacticals with your 2 Subs. You’ll be up against the Battleship, Cruiser, and 3 Fighters. Pray he/she misses all but 2. You have to have 6 hits, the battle cannot go on to the 2nd round. If he/she hits with everything, you’re down 3 planes…
I like to attack 111 with 2 subs, 1 fighter and 1 bomber. You could forget 111 and just focus on the 110 ships + planes adding another fighter and bomber to it.
The game is about risk = reward. You can’t win the lottery without paying for the ticket!

RE: Japan + Larry Harris = HUH!?
Back to the point of the original post, I tend to agree, Japan has limited options. Personally, I’d like to see the US unable to declare war until turn four and Japan able to invade the DEI, however, if they do this the US can then declare war on Turn 3.
Thank you. So you think the USA still has the right to declare war on the Japanese if the Japanese attack ANZAC or UK? If so why?
-
RE: Japan + Larry Harris = HUH!?
The war Japanese started began with Korea and ended with America, it just flowed into WW2.
Incorrect. As was previously stated, Korea already belonged to Japan. The war started when Japanese forces invaded Manchuria from Korea in Sept. 1931.
Actually you are incorrect. Japan had a 35-year imperialist expansion, which lasted August 22, 1910 to August 15, 1945. That expansion included Korea, China, and finally US islands. Which ended up (you guessed wrong) happening to include WW2.
-
RE: Japan + Larry Harris = HUH!?
Korea belonged to Japan since the beginning of the century. The embargo you mention was placed in 1938/39 when US imposed a ‘moral embargo’ against Japan by informing aircraft manufacturers and others not to sell weapons to Japan.
The main help given by the US to Japan was oil: the US supplied 80% of all of Japan’s imports (and Japan’s domestic production was minimal) until August 1941, after Japan had invaded Southern Indochina. The NO realistically reflects that, since oil was essential to the Japanese economy before the war started.Actually, if you really want to nit-pick, it was more like 60% of USA oil by 1940. They reduced the oil around September of 1940. The war Japanese started began with Korea and ended with America, it just flowed into WW2.
-
RE: Japan + Larry Harris = HUH!?
@Frontovik:
doesn’t the new NO resemble trade with japan and US prior to FIC assault?
The game starts at the 1st month of 1940 (assuming), so that means the Japanese will have FIC in September of 1940 (historically). Pearl Harbor/USA declares war in turn 3 (historically), so that gives us about 8 months per turn. It only logically/historically makes sense for about one turn.
How stupid would it be to have Japan at war with Russia/China/India/ANZAC (lets say Allies delcared war under threat), but Japan doesn’t take FIC and we have Japan fueling up war with all the Pacific and USA is giving them aid!! Hogwash I say.
The reason it’s so messed up, is because Larry puts limitations on Japan via historical reasons (USA no matter what goes to war turn 3 via Pearl Harbor), yet he makes up fictional inaccuracies like the USA declaring war on Japan prior to Pearl Harbor! No matter the reason, unless directly provoked, in 1940, the USA was in no political, or strategical position to declare war.

Japan + Larry Harris = HUH!?
This topic is about the Japanese game limitations on tactics prior to the events of Pearl Harbor and to address the absurd Japanese/United States national objective. (Alpha +2)
Game Limitations
Playing Japan before Pearl Harbor gives you the advantage of doing things they should of done (Germany has this flexibility). However, Larry has it setup so the United States will declare war on the Japanese the instant you try something different in the Pacific. The Dutch Islands should all be up for grabs. It makes no historical sense to set it up as a instant “all out war” scenario the minute Japanese step foot on them. It also doesn’t make sense that you can grab those Dutch Islands after India/Anzac declare war on you and not make the United States go to war with you.Final thoughts: Japan can attack anyone in the Pacific without worry of a USA declaration of war. USA still has its turn 3 declare war, historically by this time the president would have setup a way into war even without Pearl Harbor happening (look up the Lanikai incident).
Illogical NA
How in the world can Larry even think about even adding this to the National Objectives!? The United States, while Japanese ravaged Korea/China and finally FIC, halted shipments of airplanes, parts, machine tools, and aviation gasoline to the Japanese to make them stop attacking China (FIC was huge in stopping aid reaching China). It makes no sense for USA to give +10 IPC to the Japanese when in fact they stopped giving aid to stop the Japanese war in the East.Final thoughts: Get rid of it.

RE: Changes still needed to the game, IMHO
Says another guy who doesn’t play online. Though, I did miss that he was refering to a post two pages back, so my bad there, I was wrong, feel free to start up a forum game as the Axis so you can school me, though, I don’t think it’s going to happen.
And Mantlefan is the troll? I was just getting you back on track of the OP discussion, something you lost focus on.
Just because we don’t play online doesn’t mean we don’t know what we’re talking about, or worse players. Enough with the online elitism.
-
RE: Changes still needed to the game, IMHO
Who gave specific examples of Japan not being able to take the DEI or the UK’s circumstances?
@Cmdr:
I would love to GET the DEI for a change! But I think you are missing how easy it is to sack Tokyo now…. Getting DEI is pretty impossible now due to how fast America can move and get ships to bear…
Obviously from the OP Geist…
Too bad Mantlefan doesn’t play online, I bet we could all learn from him…
Yeah. You probably could.
Who said Russia out produces Germany?
@Cmdr:
This is due, probably, to the fact that Russia can easily out produce Germany and thus stop the incursion without assistance.
Again, the OP made this statement…
Mantlefan is right. Japan has the tools to survive, and also to win. Honestly if USA is 100% pacific, your Germany/Italy brothers are morons if they don’t win. Japan can’t be captured in less than 10 turns anyway, even that’s pushing it.
-
RE: Changes still needed to the game, IMHO
With the powerful Sealion, the Japanese turn 3 India Crush… the United States needs to be the big dog in both theaters. USA needs that flexibility to dump all in Pacific or Atlantic.
Japan is an island nation. You can see a USA loaded transport 5,478 miles away!! (Tokyo to LA fyi.) You can prep for any sort of attack the USA may try to use on you. For the life of me, I honestly can’t see Japan getting invaded by any Pacific nation. It’s why USA had to drop a freaking nuke!! You can D the heck out of Japan while you destroy India, capture all of China, and dive into Russia. The IPC is more than enough for USA and Anzac, you can even hold a 100% USA at bay.
Don’t see it. Alpha +2 is balanced.

RE: Soviet-Japan pact questions…
It is a moot point, and I stand by it.
By your situational irony scenario’s, lets say Japan declares war on Russia the turn Germany takes Moscow. After Germany takes Moscow lets say USA takes Germany/Berlin on the same turn!! Uh oh! The allies just wasted a good chance to collect the IPC’s Russia had, BUT, by YOUR method, the bonus totally goes down the crapper and is a MOOT POINT. Because if you’re talking about taking capitals with ease to a point of if Moscow falls so easily than Berlin can just as easily get taking by USA/UK to get that bonus back.
Pelanderfunk, it doesn’t matter in your game. It could actually work against Germany. He see’s that 12 IPC go to you, and Germany could make a risk that he shouldn’t. Either way there is no reason not to give the bonus right away. Played enough games of global to forget many things, and waiting to give Russia money would be one of them for sure!
-
RE: Soviet-Japan pact questions…
Moot points kcdzim.
If Moscow falls and Japan hasn’t even attacked Russia yet… game is over anyway, regardless of the 12 IPC. More after than not, you’re going to forget about the bonus when it gets to Russia’s turn, so it’s best to do it after you get attacked !!
No points of interest declaring war on France, the Destroyer over near Africa takes to long to get over to be a problem with the rules.
