I would like to keep my sub in sz 124 for now instead of moving it to 125. Forgot Russia NO doesn’t activate until round 2.

RE: [House Rules] Japan round 1 buyings
Balanced mod is okay if you like seeing the axis win all the time. The allies get more NOs but the axis get some neat ones as well. The difference is the allies don’t get a juicy 21 ipc bid to take more ground initially, which opens up egypt and the middle east more so for the axis, in which case Russia is dead without air support coming from persia to defend against the german onslaught.
The amount of getting rekt before allied gains are made is increased.

RE: [House Rules] Germany round 1 buyings
sub 3 mech 2 tank if you g1 dow russia.
sub 2 bomber standard g2/g3 dow russia or invade london. The gold standard of buys. Everything else is sub optimal. Why is that? For the G1 dow Germany is attacking 7 infantry, france (all in, no normandy or southern france, can’t risk losing mech/armor for 2 or 3 ipc better to let italy do it and use arty round 2 for normandy) attempting to strafe yugoslavia, sinking one of the two fleets (usually the bship 2 cruiser), sinking dd trans with 2 sub, and sub to sz 125 to prevent Russia NO.
For a standard game the 2 bombers have more potential. They sink naval, you could fly everything to southern italy and attack egypt, if allies park on syria with air you can attack it, bombers could bomb london and you can buy transports to take uk out of the game if UK disrespects you. The bombers are able to attack and take russia in later rounds unlike naval. Oh and bombing the Russians typically puts on a hurt G4/G5, which can occur before allies start flying fighters in. You do whatever attacks you prefer g1.
Since you use marines as an example, it seems you are playing g40 mod3, in which case sub optimal strategies become better… but g40 mod3 still heavily favors axis. Germany still brings in the pain train, except instead of a 21 ipc bid you get NO money. So initial allies attacks and defenses are diminished, this puts more pressure on the axis to play more aggressive, which they want to do anyway.

RE: The Japan Playbook
I am more or less playing from a Japan perspective of securing the VCs and going for a Pacific Victory. After India there are other options… Middle east and Africa… You could make it such that Russia is isolated from any allied planes allowing for a super easy G5-G7 attack on Russia.
Only thing that would be able to defend Russia would be fighters/bombers flying in from scotland or siberia / china (I like to do this with USA you can buy 6 bombers and fly them to siberia and then into Russia).

RE: The Japan Playbook
I am not a big fan of the sink hawaii fleet. I know people who like to do it. It does work and it is viable.
The j1 dow is modified to do it. The reason I dislike it so much is because I like to attack any burma stack that the allies may attempt with all my air. Makes for an easy J3 India without the need to purchase an airbase (just naval). Saves Japan 15 ipc to make up for any tuv disadvantage it may cause.
But If I were planning for a more conservative approach. I like it. If USA responds with some sort of full pacific go after Japan strategy you can spam carriers and effectively turtle for such a long time that Germany will take Russia.

RE: [House Rules] Japan round 1 buyings
Balanced mod isn’t even balanced. Axis go hard.
-
RE: [Global 1940] Air units fly over question
The aa guns rule was made so that india and uk pacific wouldn’t die every game round 3.
-
RE: Should Japan ignore China?
Sometimes it has to happen. You take India with heavy costs and China is too big to contest with usa coming in the pacific. So you turtle India/malaysia/FIC and hold those spots with inf…
Why? Because India is the second Russia that can stop the Europe win. Taking a fortified India usually means allied air died defending it (which would be able to defend moscow). So Yeah it is good to take India. It puts more pressure on the allies for both Europe and Pacific.
-
RE: Going to try Bright Skies strategy in my current game
bright skies is supposed to be a KJF.
Bombers Early in Europe are only useful if Germany / Italy is building naval. In which case you are threatening something. Otherwise you can only bomb Western Germany and Germany doesn’t need to produce there rounds 3-6. It is also a response to G1 dows on Russia… why? Because Russia needs bombers fast since Germany is doing an all in Russia or bust strategy. 5 bombers defending Russia along with all the other rolls… is a big difference.
-
RE: Going to try Bright Skies strategy in my current game
Not used to seeing bombers going to Russia from the europe route… usually the pacific route.
But the advantage of bombers going Europe route: From Scotland you can land moscow or in two turns you can make it to egypt flying anywhere africa.
The whole point of this is to use Russia early on and get advantages, because you have USA flying in to defend Russia with bombers (cannon fodder factor and the fact that bombers attacking tanks produced on ukraine or bombing the minors or whatever.
~Bright skies is supposed to be a pacific play. You bring Russia in to the pacific… the goal is not to lose India during the game and get China going so that Japan can never take the VC win on the Pacific. The bombers fly into russia along with fighters from uk before Germany can take Russia. That is why it is called bright skies. The bombers save Russia.

RE: Global Naval Stack in the Pacific
Japan is usually the one to build the attack fleet. Hawaii is the last NO and you got to attack to get it.
USA builds the attack fleet if it is going kjf
-
RE: Global Naval Stack in the Pacific
The Mexican standoff doesn’t seem to happen as often.
It is rare.

RE: Axis Victories (what's the "magic" trick?)
If you are struggling to win as the axis, I suggest just playing for income, in which case spamming mech from germany, arty from ukraine and novgorod, and pushing to volgograd / caucasus etc, you will make bank.
But yes you will need to dow early with Japan to get Japan’s income high.
Think of it this way, Europe is hard to punch for the allies. USA is super far away, UK has to figure out how to produce units to hold the middle east / support Russia. So UK isn’t going to build boats and d-day very heavily like in other AA boards.
~The axis can make allies income fast, which is the flaw of the global board.
-
RE: Axis Victories (what's the "magic" trick?)
If you go hard into siberia, well, you are probably dowing j3 or j2. I don’t like it unless Russia stacks up in amur and tempts me.

RE: France survives turn 1, what now?
Balanced mod, just play it like it is global. Axis still have a massive advantage. Just take France with germany g1. Italy 1 southern france, no need normandy.
