I’d say taking out the UK med navy are must do attacks, as well as taking Karelia and Ukraine.

RE: R1 Indian Factory
What are they taking it on round 1 with? You can destroy their trans for free. You can attack French indo with favorable odds. Russia can send some tanks there, even a plane. I wouldn’t recomend it though. India is a lost cause but if you guys aren’t seasoned veterans, try it. It can confound less experienced players, especially with a US china factory and naval builds.

RE: Russia Round One–How to justify anything but inf?
I don’t think it’s justified to buy anything but INF round 1. West Russia and Ukraine are very unpredictable battles. If they go bad, you’re going to need INF reinforcements. If they go good, then you can buy more armour to keep the heat on Germany. But you don’t know. INF is the safer bet. Plus, let Germany come to you. Instead of buying ART making 1 inf attack at 2, on D they all defend at 2. You always have to think about stalling JP too and INF buys can afford you to send a few troops to annoy JP.
That doesn’t mean I don’t think a good offense is the best defense for Russia. It is. But if you get bad dice when you’ve been mainly buying hardware as Rus you can collapse pretty quick. Heavy INF buys makes you a tough nut to crack, at least until the other allies arrive.

RE: US Factory in Brazil
I’ve always wanted to try this but I always wind up spending that 15 IPC on something else.

RE: Uk Strategies
A trick I’m willing to share that I think is a game changer that I don’t see discussed on here is to take your Australian trans with sub, bring an Aussie and the INF in NZ and head to africa the long way. You’ll get there in 3 rounds/ Japan may come after you but it will be at the expense of doing other, more important things.
To me that move is risky. The Japanese can attack it with their sub with better odds. And you’re leaving Australia/NZ easier to be conquered by Japan, which means less 3 IPCs per round for the UK permanently. The 2 Inf can help on Africa but if Japan goes for it then you will need more units (usually the Americans to deal with the situation).
It is risky but for some reason when me and my friends have gone after it, we either got sunk, or it was mutual and the trans lived. It must be a cursed square on our board. They don’t do much staying in Australia. If Japan really wants it they can send whatever they need. They’ll still be in range of India so it’s not that far out of their way.
Also, it’s not a bad a idea to leave Norway for Russia. Those plane purchases can pot shot the germans in Karelia and Russia can blitz a tank round 2, assuming there’s only one or two germans in Karelia.

RE: Uk Strategies
First thing, India is a lost cause. To hold it you have to build a factory and many players know how to end that quick. The most popular move is to build 1 AC, 2 destroyers on turn 1 if you kept your BB. If not, make a suicide run for africa with your canada trans and buy planes - 2 or 3. The most popular thing to do with the Indian forces are to try and take back Egypt, usually with cruiser hit, 3 inf, plane and maybe a bomber. If Germany has taken it with 3 or 4 pieces, attacking French Indo is a decent option, as is taking Borneo. A trick I’m willing to share that I think is a game changer that I don’t see discussed on here is to take your Australian trans with sub, bring an Aussie and the INF in NZ and head to africa the long way. Let US take the bulk of the load in retaking Africa and concentrate on landing in Europe. Just make sure you get your 4 loaded trans on the move asap. Sometimes you might be delayed 3 rounds but Russia can usually take care of themselves until you do.

RE: How often do you hold back attack forces?
@Bunnies:
Almost never. In fact, one of my specialities is the widdle. I will attack a superior infantry stack if I have enough hardware that can retreat to a safe position.
Aw. Cute widdle infantriez.
Don’t make fun of my spelling and I won’t make fun of your corny jokes.

RE: Russian moves to start game
Especially if Germany just buys guys since Russia will already be down 2 inf with that purchase. UK and US can take care of the Med fleet no problem. Russia has more immediate concerns.

RE: Does Japan need to be house ruled to weaken them?
I do wish there was some way to get some more Pacific action going but we play KGF all the time now.
Why not move the E US fleet to the coast of L.A. (as a house rule)? That’ll change your game and probably get the Pacific going.
You mean switch the fleets or put everything over there?
We play with house rules, but those seem a little extreme. We try not to move pieces but we’ve found switching the tank in Africa with Art in Algeria and movie the german FIG in Ukraine to Southern has helped. All the games we’ve played since doing that have been very close.

RE: Does Japan need to be house ruled to weaken them?
The axis do not need to be weakened. I find the opposite is true. They still need a bid. I do wish there was some way to get some more Pacific action going but we play KGF all the time now.

RE: German Strategy…beef up the navy or straight to Moscow?
I would be surprised if Germany had Africa and then wasted those IPC’s on subs. Seems counterproductive.

RE: .
We use the board as is. We don’t like the new territorial changes and we also play with national advantages for germany and a bid for them. Every change we’ve made is for germany’s benefit. We’ve had too many games where it was over round for them( like only taking Egypt with 1 tank or not at all combined with losing two planes right off the bat, etc.) Wins can still happen for the axis with OOB rules but everything has to go perfectly for germany every round.
I’d like to play. I’m thinking about joining gametable online. I tried to get AAA but I find it to confusing to downlowd everything I need to play.
using the board as is (the Revised Board) makes it easier for the allies to hinder the axis… the change to the alaska territ and Sea zones there means the US can move easier from western canada to either the pacific or atlantic especially with bombers, its also easier for the US to stack units in western canada so they can protect alaska, move to eastern to jump on transports and if need be get on transports built on california to move to hawaii, in Revised the SZ55 is adjacent to both Western USA and Western Canada, in Spring '42 its not, also in revised Western canada is adjacent to SZ63 which means its easier for usa to attack that Sea zone from Western USA. all this makes it easier for america to respond to Hawaii or any pacific movement and harder for japan to stall america and help Germany.
I agree the lines are hard to see in germany on the new board, we got used to it, but on this forum there is a redesign to the 42 board thats much clearer and definitely worth printing to use for the game. but those changes to the territories are important to the game and change strategies.
We think the allies have enough advantages as it is, so we won’t ever be using the 42 board

RE: Does anyone still use paper money (ipc's)?
We stopped using paper money years ago. It’s easier to just write it down. Someone posted some good IPC charts are few pages back.

RE: Russian moves to start game
excuse me. i meant atlantic. i have this really bad habit of writing the opposite of what i’m thinking. :|
i’ve done the R1 sub buy twice more since then, and i have to say that i’m sold.
I do that all the time here too. So many specific details to keep straight when talking strats it’s easy to mess up.

RE: Russian moves to start game
well just tried it for one game, and sure enough, the BB ran out to the pacific (where it was eventually sunk) and G failed to take egypt. helluva deal, i’ll keep trying it to see what results i can get.
If they failed to take Egypt, how did they get out of the channel?
-
RE: Russian moves to start game
We abandoned the Russian sub buy when it failed to take the BB and then the BB shot down two UK fighters and a US bomber RD 2.
-
RE: What do you drink while playing AA42?
Just sticking to the 42 board -
America - whiskey
Germany - Beer
Russia - vodka
Japan - sake
UK- Gin -
RE: .
We actually use the revised board but with 1942 rules and pieces. The 42 board is too small and the borders are hard to see.
did you account for the territory changes? central america… alaska… the sea zones by alaska… strategically those changes are major.
This is something we’ve started doing this past year. We’ve been playing for ten years and we’ve seen (almost) every possible scenario for the round 1 failed egypt attack. After it happens, Germany makes less and less money every round. By round 2 they’ll be at 35 or even less. All the three allies have to do is just attack them everywhere and widdle them down to nothingness. You don’t even need strategy.
i still dont see how this is possible with the new OOB rules. and if you add in some of the house rules for advantages and technology, each individual game can be more unique. maybe we should get a game going send me a message
