You purchase units at the end of the Turn ? What is the reason for that ?
Its getting too simple, man
Youre so right, man.

I had a lot of hopes and dreams for the possibility of A&A being continued without its legendary creator, but those were smashed with bloody zombies. Although I won’t be quitting A&A anytime soon, the lack of fresh appeal in the franchise is slowly taking away my game players. Alternate setups and house rules help but take too long to perfect to keep the less interested crowd from leaving after they’ve tried every strategy they wanted to.
I don’t get angry often or use such foul language but—
Fuck you WotC. Fuck you.
I have to disagree. Imagine Japan building a micro in western China or the Novosibirsk area. That would allow a quick overrun of the unprotected Soviet territoriies while the Russians are cornered in Moscow. It tales a fast unit four turns to get from the Chinese coast (where factories can be built) to Moscow, while a micro could bring troops to the front immediately.
Even a micro in the Shan State or Yunnan could be detrimental to India simply because of the added range. Though a micro is not as economical as a minor, it gives Japan a privilege it rarely ever gets early on: building inland.
I detest that rule with a passion. :x
I call for revolution.
July 3rd 1944, the British and Canadian armies were locked in bitter fighting liberating Caen. Vive la france!
I think in the case of consolidation, it works well. The only time it really looks weird or “cheap” is with Yugoslavia because the Germany objective isn’t consolidation but rather making infantry and artillery move twice in the same turn.
I’ve actuallly never played Anniversary with NOs. What is the general opinion on how it affects balance? I always thought I looked too good for the Axis.
Narvik, I must ask you not to speak so candidly when you have already taken the extreme risk of placing two French infantry on a bloody British ship! I expect four P-38s and two cruiser tanks in return for every French life lost while onboard those British seadog’s sloopy excuse for a navy.
I like the recruitment center idea of infantry only. It’s realistic and not overpowered. Now, to prevent abuse by Japan particularly, simply make it that you may only build recruitment centers in original territories or pro-your side territories you own that are 1 IPC or more. Furthermore, make it that recruitment centers get destroyed if the territory is overrun. These small adjustments work beautifully for both history and game balance. Observe:
Germany can recruit from its eastern allies, the northern European Quislings, and Poland (conscripts).
Russia can get far eastern troops to secure its border with Japan and also reinforce the frontline with locals from around the Soviet Union.
Japan can get help from its ally Thailand, and recruit soldiers from occupied Korea and Formosa and Japanese in Okinawa. Iwo Jima might look like a problem, but it’s really not. I doubt Japan would want to be build there, and even if they did, it could be excused as Japanese mainalanders volunteering to defend the island.
The United States could recruit citizens from Hawaii and Alaska and the freedom-loving Filipinos. They could also try to get Central Americans or Brazillians to fight, but as was really the case, it’s not practical in the game.
The UK could recruit soldiers from all around the Empire. All the African nations can send their local military or volunteers (it’s amazing how much Rhodesia did in the war), Palestinians and Zionists could theoretically help in Trans-Jordan, more Scots and Canadians could make a showing (not really good in a gameplay perspective), Persia could be persuaded to fight (but it’s way better to build industry there), Chinese could join in defense of Hong Kong, and southeast Asians could even make an appearance (many of them fought Japan).
In essence, China already has this recruitment rule on an accelerated scale.
Italy will be able to recruit from anti-British locals in Africa and also friendly Albania.
ANZAC could recruit soldiers in the west, and New Zealand can finally get the attention it deserves.
If France were ever liberated, then locals from around the empire could be recruited. The majority of French troops in the empire were actually locals on most occasions.
I like this idea plenty.
@Dauvio:
Nice, and a lot of work. 8-)
It was worth it. Thanks ;)
@seancb:
DeGaulle, I’ve been working on a Triple A setup for this. It still needs some coding but it is playable with the user guide and some editing.
That’s great! I wish I could get a computer running so I could play TripleA myself. I don’t know what the software limitations are, but setting up territories like Belgian Congo and Eastern Poland would be quite a programming challenge. I think most of those special rules will have to just be observed by the players as you said.
@Moffett:
A 1936 setup would be cool… :-D
Hmm…I thought 1943 was going to be my last vanilla G40 project, but this request is temptingly challenging.
The Axis advantage is indeed noticeable in the 1941 scenario (and even the 1942). The major problem is that the Axis can smash whatever early plans the Allies have. A careful German invasion of Russia will neuter the Soviets, and Japan can virtually take the whole Pacific with minimal resistance. An Indian factroy is really important to take out as Japan. Always position yourself to claim India early.
After that, its usually a battle between how quickly the Allies can halt Japan or crush Germany and Italy. Quite amusingly, in my opinion, the Axis usually win by Japan invading the USSR and taking Moscow (or letting the Germans do so). One of the small yet major issues is China. After Japan has taken India, it can plow right through China and eastern Russia to take Moscow for the win.
It is a strange rule that I think was made to simplify retreats (it would be a little hard to remember where everything came from all the time and also differentiate which units died). This one move is very gamey, but it seldom occurs outside of Yugoslavia. Having an enemy territory smack in the middle of your forces just doesn’t happen that often in normal circumstances.
This has some very serious implications:
All of eastern Russia and China will become easy places for Japan to build up.
Soviets can be building in the east.
The big Pacific islands that Japan usually takes can be easily reinforced from within.
An invasion of Australia is more realistic because micros can be built in the west.
The U.S. will be building micros just about wherever it can (North Africa, Hawaii, Iwo Jima).
Africa in general becomes a factory haven.
I like this idea, but the board is not really made for it.
Anywhere in France will do.
Really! I’m being serious!
I was referring more to his insubordinance and the atrocities he later committed in Moldova and Ukraine. Some people seem to forget that genocide and civillian abuse were not only the main Axis powers’ method of war.
My personal opinion on the matter is that I like no wars and dry weddings.
And I would appreciate if you would stop insulting France.
I just watched The King’s Choice. At least some Norwegians have a patriotic view of the war.
On this day in 1941, a certain Romanian “locotenet,” a former Iron Guardist, a fascist of the lowest sort, commenced his shenanagans on the Eastern Front. He was quoted as saying this to his artillery commander when he lost his patience and wanted to fire what he thought would be the first shot of Barbarossa: “Is it that we cannot start because Mr. (Germany? Hitler?) wants all the credit? We want to get to the pubs in Odessa before the Germans, do we not?”
In a more figurative translation, he wanted to quickly end the war and get a beer. Despicable man.
I’m very proud to know that you and your group enjoy this setup enough to consistently play it. I’ll be sure to pass on your approval to the other designers. Sometimes we get a little dismayed when our more hardline teammates and enemies refuse to use our house rules on a regular basis, but knowing that other people around the web are using our creations is highly inspiring.
Good luck with your games!
Fighters or no fighters, my question still remains. Are you bringing in a submarine or three to take hits from the cruiser and battleship?
@Topmat:
Whooooooo Hoooooooo!!! Well I took my parents at 1:00 to the movies today to see the Incredibles 2, and we all loved it. I loved it soo much that when we got home I told my mom if she would drive me back to the theater, I would buy her another ticket. So as I am writing this, I am on my way home from the movie theater… again. It’s 9:30 EST where I live and I’m going back home to rewatch the Incredibles. I am a little disappointed that there were swear words and God’s name used in vain. I just wanted to tell y’all about my Incredible experience. :-D
This is quite possibly the most confusing thing I’ve ever read on AxisandAlies.org. :? are you actually saying you watched the same movie twice then watched the original?
I think I better stop it with the movies and go role some dice. My head hurts.
ANZAC is the perfect starter nation. It has very little of everything, but it usually does not get crushed like Italy might. Learning how to buy right, plan, and manage limited resources are important parts of being ANZAC and really help train new players. Just be sure to tell the U.S. player to watch that Japan does not pick on the little Australian brother :wink:
