Is the setup chart in the rulebook correct that there are no Chinese (American) infantry in Northwestern China or is this a mistake that will be corrected by future errata?

RE: AA41 Complete Review
With respect to the game board, I would have preferred the Chinese territories be divided east / west instead of north / south. Also, given the late 1941 start date for the game, Southeast Asia should have been divided into two territories - British Burma and Japanese occupied French Indochina.
In regard to the setup, why is there no Chinese (American) infantry in Northwestern China? I guess the Soviet player could move some of his infantry to Northwestern China from the Caucasus. I hope this is a mistake that will be corrected by future errata.

RE: AA41 Complete Review
@Col.:
Thanks.
I think the turn length time is more important than the overall time. As long as everybody is active and the turns go quickly and smoothly, they probably won’t notice if it goes a few extra turns.
Good point. The key is for players to stay involved in the game and maintain a high level of interest / excitement. I believe A&A 1941 will do just that with its faster playing time per game turn.

RE: AA41 Complete Review
In the sales solicitation flyer, WOTC stated that the play time for A&A 1941 runs between 1 1/2 to 2 hours. How long was the playing time for your A&A 1941 games?

RE: 1942 Second Edition Preview 1: Contents of the Box
I just got the game with the mail today!
I only owned the original 2nd Edition version of Axis & Allies from Milton Bradley (1986) and was a little shocked to find the new game box so small compared to the old one.
Oh and they excluded the IPC’s in this version just like i read they did in the first edition of this game! Thats a shame for all those who buy this game and don’t own another version which has the money…
I would post some screen shots of the game board, but i’m not allowed to post pictures and links.
Where did you preorder / order the game?

RE: 1942 Second Edition Preview 1: Contents of the Box
:( cardboard ICs :) green chips
With all the great components, including new unit pieces and chips, I am surprised there are cardboard ICs.
I like the addition of the green chip to represent three units.

RE: Is this our Anniversary reprint?
Sorry if I am missing something, but could I get a link to the map and rule book? Thank you.
Here is the link…

There is a picture of the game board (map) on page 8 of the rulebook. DJensen said he will be posting a preview of the game board and setup sometime this evening.

RE: AA41 Complete Review
What are the dimensions of the game board (map) for A&A 1941?
-
RE: Is this our Anniversary reprint?
Revised was listed as an Anniversary game (20th).
And 1942 is basically a revised revised.
Of course, only a real fan would know that.
So yes. :)
A&A Revised (2004) was the 20th Anniversary edition of A&A Classic (1984) from Milton Bradley and A&A 1942 (2009) was the 25th Anniversary edition of the original MB game. Of course, the very first version of A&A was produced by Nova Games. I can’t recall the exact date.

RE: Factories on Islands?
There is a difference between changing history, and an unrealistic scenario like Japan turning the wilderness of Java into an industrial powerhouse with equivalent production to the entirety of Caucasus in the span of 4 months (one turn game time).
Thats the problem with 42 setups. Japan starts loaded with cash, and nothing to do….except plop down a factory somewhere and pump units towards Moscow.
Japan should have to fight for their empire. That was the fear they put into the west in 1941…that they were gobbling up their colonies. Not that Japan was going to springboard into Egypt from the coffee bean headquarters of the world.
I agree. Oztea succinctly makes the case.

RE: Is China at least 3 territories?
Where has the map been posted? Â I have only seen a small picture of the game board on page 8 of the 1942 2nd Ed. rulebook posted by smo63 on a seperate thread on this forum.
BTW, the personal comments are inappropriate and off topic for this thread. Please take it somewhere else. Doesn’t this forum have a moderator to police comments?

RE: 1942 2nd. Ed. Update with Rules for GEN CON
Page 8 of the 1942 Second Edition Rulebook provides a decent picture of the new game board. Now we just need to see the setup cards for each power.

RE: Factories on Islands?
Wow, just looked again, and didn’t see placement on islands being forbidden.
This is bad.
I agree.

Thanks for the additional information. Looking forward to seeing some pictures of this game, especially the game board and setup.

RE: Release Date?
I ordered A&A 1941 from Amazon on July 9th and paid for 2-3 day shipping. It shipped out of Fernley, NV on the evening of July 9th and arrived at my home in California on July 11th.
Interestingly, I can no longer find the listing for A&A 1941 from Amazon. I can only find the pre-order listing of A&A 1941 on Amazon from Funagain Games.

RE: Is China at least 3 territories?
I do not have the board in front of me, so, I do not have all the changes, but here are ones I do know:
a) algeria and libya were 2 territories - now are 3 - add in morrocco - all worth 1 IPC
b) china has been divided into 4 territories (each worth 1 IPC)
c) what was s. europe now has s. europe and I think Italy separate - there is an IC in Italy, but the IPC value is only 3
d) the overall IPC count at the start is almost exactly the same - I think Germany starts with 41 (not 40) and UK starts with 31 (not 30)
e) australia is now two territories (each worth 1 IPC)
f) norway is now split into finland and norway
g) there seems to be just a bit more ‘space’ between germany (berlin) and russia (moscow)
h) africa is just a bit different - including egypt being by itself with I think sudan below it (but sudan is worth nothing)
i) there is now a burma territory
j) western europe is now broken into two pieces - like globalThat is all I can remember ATM…
MM
With these map changes and the new AAA unit, A&A 1942 Second Edition is really an entirely new game, not merely an update of A&A 1942. I am looking forward to this game even more now.

RE: Is China at least 3 territories?
I agree. I hope there is at least four territories in China.
