I really prefer the 2 hit HBs. Sure they can do some damage but they have no staying power in combat. Myself I was never worried about them if my opponent got them.
What’s staying power :?

Unfortunately, the person who can change this calculator hasn’t checked in here for awhile…… :-(
I’ve never used anyone else’s .jar. I’m assuming I can open up the code if I have a Java development kit, right?
Hey, Stoney, that would be awesome. I would rather e-mail you the file than try to upload it on mediafire.
Just PM me your e-mail address, or e-mail me your e-mail address. My e-mail address should be in my profile if you click my username. I’d be happy to e-mail the file to you.
We need a fix for the clarified FAQ heavy bombers. That’s probably my #1 biggest issue. Also, would be great if you could choose casualty OOL 1 by 1 instead of by group, but that’s probably not such an easy fix.
Also, would be wonderful to incorporate tac bombers and 2 hit carriers for 1940 game.
This calculator is terrific, and worth the effort to improve.

@UN:
Do you want British forces to be on the board and Britain itself a off-board area, or would you prefer Britain to be on the map and also be divided?
You pose a good question. If the UK were to not be on the board, then the action can be more focused on the Continent. However, on the other side, it would also be interesting if a Sealion mission could happen if the players wanted the game to go longer.
Perhaps do a “Early War” game: all of the map is of Europe (and Europe only, no Africa or Atlantic or Middle East). The players can do three scenarios: German invasion of Poland in 1939, the Norwegian Campaign in 1940, and the Invasion of Western Europe in May 1940.
Understand these are all broad concepts, of course. I can defiantely see this being fleshed out somehow.
Well, miniatures AA already has “Early War,” but they just used early war weapons on a board representing a space smaller than any territory on a global map.
I am intrigued by your idea. You could also do Battle of Britain, D-day, Battle of the Bulge, Market Garden, and the invasion of West Germany on such a map.
@UN:
The German invasion of Western Europe in 1940. Benelux, Britain, France, and Germany will be the main powers, and as a special rule, German units, representing Italy, can attack late in the game if the appropiate conditions come up.
I added France to the list since I think many would like to see it

Dylan, I don’t use all the characters in my signature. I don’t have a % in my sig
1. And Global 1940 won’t?
2. How?
3. Crimea is a peninsula in Ukraine
4. Yeah, since it doesn’t have the US. Maybe someone could make one?
5. It happened during it(but you’re right).
6. Yes, as long as China is tough to conquer, unlike in P40
7. Yes, my favorite type!
8. That was the longest battle of the war starting on September 3, 1939 and ending on May 8, 1945
What do you want to be the next AA game? I’d like a North Africa game since it incorporates land, sea, and air forces; has a place for logistics; and has my favorite power(British Empire) have a major role.
Well, they can make anything balanced by altering the setup.
Some more battles:
Siege of Leningrad
Battles near Moscow
Crimea
Norway
Winter War
China Burma India
Battle of the Philippine Sea
Battle of the Atlantic
How about a market garden battle?
Interesting. Did that historically have a chance of success if the Germans didn’t get the plans?
If Japan captures all of Asia, Australia, and the Solomons, it makes 98 ipcs. The US is making 80 ipcs at the beginning plus Italy, Algeria, Maybe Gemrnay which will give it 90-100. UK will probably be making 30-40, and Russia also 30-40. Japan will lose unless they can liberate Germany and Italy
@Dylan:
Okay so Axis need 15 cities, Allies need all capitals, I don’t think that’s fair
Axis Victory:
Berlin, Rome, Warsaw, Rome, Tokyo, Shangahi, Paris, Cairo, Hong Kong, Manilla, Lenningrad, Stalingrad, Sydney, Honolulu, Moscow or CalcuttaWashigton, San Fransisco, London, Ottawa, and Moscow or Calcutta all free!
Allies need 3 capitals the Axis may not even touch one!
You said Rome twice.
The reason Sydney is hard to take is that it is far away from Japan and is easily reinforced by the US. Hawaii is also easily reinforced by the US
Yeah, not really fair. Granted it is easier for the Allies to take Germany and Rome, but they almost never can take Japan. A little skewed in my opinion.
Why not? After taking Germnay and Italy, they’ll have the economic advantage and can convoy raid Japan and her holdings.
The battle chosen will likely be
a) an allied victory, historicly
b) involves americans
Then the only options of mine left are Midway(not sure how to model this without a fog of war game) and maybe North Africa, although the US won’t join until the end
Actually, they only need 14, and you’ve listed all outside north america(and london, since you put Rome twice.) However, Sydney and Honolulu will be difficult to take, as will be Moscow and Stalingrad
Yes, I too would like to see some more, and hopefully better/more exciting, battle-level games.
I think it very probable that they will come out with more of these… but my following question would then be: how soon?
I mean Europe 40 has not even released yet and while it seems like a long time until Christmas I am sure we will be discussing the future of the game by then. Even if it is early… when could we expect the next game?
Would Krieg have any valuble input on this?
Interesting thoughts. Let me look up release dates……
AA50: November 2008
AA42: August 2009
AAP40: December 2009
AAE40: August 2010
Of course, Larry announced the 1940 games very soon before 1942 edition was released(In July 2009, according to AA.org).
He hasn’t announced any specific project, so I’d expect it to be at least June 2011 before we get another game
That battle was an easy allied victory: the axis had stretched supply lines that had to start at Tripoli, while the Allies could get reinforcements from the Far East via the relatively close Cairo/Alexandria
As I and many others have said on Larry’s site and here, I think(and hope) that there will be more battle specific games like the Battles of France, Britain, Stalingrad, Midway, Mediterranean/North Africa/Italy, Eastern Front, etc.
When they do do another global game, I’d like for the distribution of initial forces to be as historically accurate as possible without unbalancing the game. For example, IL made a game starting in 1939 where the forces and ipc distribution is accurate and balanced(I’m not sure of this, since I doubt the axis could’ve actually won. However, I think he says that Axis win if they conquers this much territory, not necessarily gaining an economic advantage.)
@Dylan:
In Classic, the Axis could also win an economic victory by reaching a combined income of 84 IPCs or more, so they could win without capturing two Allied capitals.
Can the Allies or do they need Japan and Germany.
Allies start with economic advantage
@Dylan:
@UN:
Add to that the fact that Russia will probably start with 1 sub, destroyer, and transport at most, and will never buy a cruiser, carrier, or battleship
Exactly! It’s not like the Soviet player will be relying on his navy alot, whereas the French player’s primary contribuation to the Allies will probably be its navy (and, of course, what French units remain in Africa).
When Germany attacks I would use it to sink anything else in the Baltic.
Dylan, I’ll play you Spring 1942 with me being axis
Isn’t there a new setup for Global. Like, you don’t just combine the setups for Euro and Pac… Couldn’t this fact leave hope that the Global version will be more balanced than Pacific is?
I think the setup will be the same, except for the 18 inf in Siberia and maybe having 1-2 British Inf in Egypt changed to ANZAC
