Ugh My head spins when thinking about Japan :p. In retrospect it would have been smarter to have put less emphasis on eastern pacific islands and focus more on an India crush to pull ahead. But quite honestly, i don’t have fun as Japan. I have to fret about the IPC sink hole of china, the 18 inf Soviet threat, and the Indians on land, and then worry about the absolute monster of America with his little sidekick ANZAC at sea. It makes my head want to explode trying to deal with all the threats and there doesn’t seem like there is a clear path to victory, merely just hope that US isn’t out for your blood. Too much stress for me i guess, I like how with Germans and Italians I know exactly what my objectives are :p. That’s just me anyways.

RE: What went wrong with Japan?
Once i pearl harbored America, US put all its weight from atlantic into pacific. Hawaiian stack consisted of 4 loaded transports, 1 battleship, 2 loaded aircraft carriers, 3 destroyers, 2 cruisers, and around 7 heavy bombers.
When i asked Justin he also brought up a good point. He says that he was able to capture tokyo US4 by ignoring island hopping as it is a “waste of time” and going straight to Japan is best. Is it?

What went wrong with Japan?
So this past Tuesday i wrapped up a 10 hr game of global as Japan and lost (again) and i am very puzzled as to what went wrong that made things turn so quickly against Me.
Myself-Japan
Dillon-Germany
Jamie-ItalyLucas-UK/ANZAC
Morgan-USSR
Justin-U.S./China/France(my friend and his brother in which i was gonna have a player dilemma did not end up showing up :p)
Axis started out on a bad note with Germany failing to take France or destroying even one sea zone of UK navy (Dillon had no experience with Germany and did not ask for advice). Thus, the rest of the game on Europe side was mostly spent trying to take France (it was finally taken for good G4), Despite this setback on the first round, axis in Europe survived and remained very stable being able to make considerable gains in Africa and Soviet Union. On the pacific side I made a goal to take on Justin head on and make sure that he did not try and KGF. I attacked and took every Chinese territory bordering Japanese territory J1 cutting off Burma road and getting my NO for just attacking China (also built a minor in shanghai). US1 I saw Justin doing his old strategy of moving his entire West Coast fleet into Caribbean and buying heavy Atlantic to Invade Germany. Seeing that there is no way Euro Axis could handle this (especially without France) I decided to J2 western allies by an all out assault of Kwangtung, French Indo-China, British Battleship off Singapore, Guam, Solomon Islands, Pearl Harbor, and Philippines In addition to continued assault of Chinese territories. When the Carnage ceased, only one american transport and one destroyer remained in the entire pacific (due to extremely bad dice when attacking phili). My plan worked in that U.S. had to take its fleet back to the pacific which saved Euro Axis and bought me time to build up. From then on I only spent a bit of money on mainland Asia and devoted almost all IPC’s to Navy and was able to conquer Gilbert, Midway, and Wake islands for the NO and all Chinese territories except for Szechwan. I had a strong naval presence off of Malaya ready for Invasion of East indies and the bulk of my fleet off of Wake which i was building up for confrontation with America. But then things started to unravel, America’s huge Air Force of at least 7 Heavy bombers in addition to a B-ship, destroyer, and cruiser completely obliterated my 2 loaded aircraft carriers, B-ship, and Cruiser. Before i knew it, There was an absolutely gigantic Stack of Naval and Air off of Hawaii and nothing to stop it. US 4 had the entire Hawaii Stack destroy my Home fleet off Japan despite my additional 5 Kamikaze strikes. In no time Tokyo was flying the Stars and Stripes despite my handsome income of 36 IPC’s without my capital (was still making NO as he did not bother to island hop and went straight to Home islands). Any hope of retaking Japan with the South Pacific fleet was dashed with a massive British-Australian assault that took Siam and French Indo-China that took place the round before hand. And So We with absolutely no hope of Getting Tokyo back and Germany only just being able to take France and already facing the possibility of a Normandy invasion by U.K. and the eastern front stagnating at Belarus and Ukraine, we decided to call game in favor of the Allies.Ignoring the obvious pitfall of axis strategy in the west, what did I (japan) do wrong? Was my failure of taking Phili as bad as Germany’s failure of taking France?. Did i divide my forces too much? What happened?

9 player dilemma
Hey i am playing global later today and i just realized that if my one friend ends up bringing his brother we will have 9 people playing global. So my question is, is it better for 9th player to play france?…. or should i make him something like pacific U.K.?

RE: G40 Enhanced begins. All are welcome.
Yeah i didn’t have high hopes for it actually working myself :( I seem to be a man of many faulty ideas. Maybe after another thousand tries ill get the lightbulb right

RE: G40 Enhanced begins. All are welcome.
One idea i have been thinking about was when i was thinking about naval cost reduction (mostly for B-ship and Cruiser) and I was thinking that maybe with the cost changes we would be able to put in a whole other unit. What? another unit? is this guy crazy? and the answer is yes i am crazy however, i am thinking of putting in a Battle cruiser to be the halfway point between the B-ship and cruiser (which if implemented could call the light cruiser). The Battle cruiser was a real warship (The HMS Hood was a Battle cruiser) and was regarded as one step behind a Battleship. Now I would implement this unit with Uncrustable’s Naval prices (Trans=6,subs=7, DD=8, Cr=10, AC= 15, BB= 18) I have nothing worked for sure as this is just an idea, but i would probably make it 12-14 IPC and attack at a 4 while defending at a 3 (or attack at 3 defend at 4?… maybe even have it at 3 and 3 but taking 2 hits to sink?). To represent this unit on the board i was thinking of using original AandA Battleship as its size is conveniently between that of B-ship and cruiser in Global (to compensate for only being 5 nations in original i would make ANZAC use Russian ships and Italy use Japanese ships to avoid confusion on board). Maybe make light cruisers only able to do shore bombardment in presence of heavy cruiser and/or B-ship? What do you guys think?

RE: Naval base repair limit?
Considering how undepowered Air/Naval bases are already (mostly due to price) and considering how few times you actually are going to have capital ships that need repairing i dont see any practical reason to limit Naval base repair :p
-
RE: Long range aircraft - why bother?
For tech in general i feel that the majority of techs are not worth the money you end up spending to try and get them and i am just thankful when i end up getting any tech from my special dice. One improvement i could see is if long range aircraft saw all carriers treated as airbases or something else other than just traveling an extra space :p
in regards to air bases and in a way naval bases too is that they are dandy, but not worth the money (especially since minor IC’s are even cheaper). If you need any extra move or scrambling bonus, aircraft carrier can get you roughly the same result as an airbase for 1 ipc more. Naval bases are almost never used and provide even less incentive to buy. Quick fix could possibly be switching up costs so naval/air bases are 12 ipc’s and minors 15 ipc’s or just having all be 12 ipc’s

RE: G2 Barbarossa idea too good to be true?
Uncrustable Thank you once more for answers and ideas :)

RE: G2 Barbarossa idea too good to be true?
1: Thanks for advice Uncrustable :). I never thought of taking the German fleet around France to enter Med via the west end of med that is an awesome idea :)
2: I was talking about taking Leningrad via SZ 115 but i never considered taking it via SZ 127 (wouldnt the sub still be able to block if it didnt submerge?) -
RE: G2 Barbarossa idea too good to be true?
1: I forgot about the extra ipc’s of not being at war with soviets which would give me more money to buy ground forces
2: Most of the reason why i posted this was because I was not sure if the cruiser would block my amphibious assault or if I could just use different forces to kill it and then amphibious assault, sadly the first one was true :(
3: I thought if i bought considerate naval and cleared out English channel sea zone that it would scare my opponent enough to just worry about reinforcing U.K.
4: though it does make me sad that my plan to take novogorod G2 doesnt work i appreciate the feedback (even though it made a little part of me die inside) and I would love to hear a better plan still revolving around a G2 that helps Italy -
G2 Barbarossa idea too good to be true?
To celebrate the end of finals (we are on this weird thing called trimesters instead of semesters so our first finals are right before Thanksgiving break) I was planning on getting my friends together to play some global 1940 before I head on vacation to Indiana and Kentucky to visit relatives. I have my eyes set on playing the Axis and was looking at forums and my board for some of the Axis strategies and got inspired by some of the recent postings of Japanese and German openers to try a play that i haven’t seen posted before and am not entirely sure will work, but if it will I think I could have some serious success with it. I am gonna try and neatly post the moves i am planning on making in my idea but i may possibly fuck it up or forget something, so if that is the case I apologize.
G2 Barbarossa idea: Sea Lion feign/Amphibious assault of Leningrad/Italian support
G1: Buy 2 transports, 1 destroyer, 1 mechanized inf, and 1 artillery
Combat move:
France- attack with 3 tanks(Holland Belgium), 4 inf(3 from west Germany and 1 from Holland Belgium), 2 artillery(1 from west Germany and 1 from Holland Belgium), 2 fighters(West Germany), 2 tac bombers(West Germany), 1 strat bomber(1 from Germany)
Southern France- attack with 2 tanks(South Germany), 2 mech(West Germany)
Normandy/Bordeaux- attack with 3 inf(Holland Belgium), 1 mech(West Germany), 1 artillery(Holland Belgium)
Sea Zone 110- attack with 3 subs(1 from SZ 103, 1 from SZ 113, 1 from SZ 108), 2 fighters(1 from Norway and 1 from Holland Belgium), 1 tac bomber(West Germany)
Bulgaria- activate with 1 tank from Romania
Finland- activate with 2 inf from Norway
Non-combat move: Move subs from SZ 117 and SZ 124 to SZ 119
Move 1 inf from Denmark to Norway
Move 2 art and 5 inf from Germany to Poland
Move 2 inf and 1 tank from Hungary to Romania
Move 4 inf and 1 tank from south Germany to Hungary
Move 2 inf and 2 art from South Germany to Germany
Move 3 inf from Bulgaria to RomaniaG2: 1 transport, 1 cruiser, 1 inf in southern France, 1 sub in Normandy, 2 tanks, 1 mech, 1 inf in Germany
Combat move:
SZ 115- attack with destroyer(SZ 114), 1 fighter(Hungary), 1 tac bomber(Poland)
Novogorod- Amphibious assault with 3 loaded transports with 2 inf and 1 art each, 1 cruiser, 1 battleship, 2 strat bombers and any other available aircraft
Baltic States- attack with all units in Poland except for 2 inf in addition 1 tank from Hungary
Karelia- attack with 5 inf from FinlandIs this move legal?(specifically Leningrad amphibious assaut), is it good?..… what do you think?

RE: Global 1940 is the best Axis & Allies game
I was a big player of the original axis and allies game which i played with my group of friends on several occasions and the one thing that my friends and i enjoy is scale. We used to love playing risk as kids and when my one buddy played the original axis and allies and told us about it we jumped at it and loved it. i cannot describe to you the excitement that I got from finding out that there was an axis and allies board of this magnitude that makes my pool table the only viable playing surface. This game just looks epic every-time i start setting it up for my friends to come over and i just can stare at it for hours and make sense of all the strategies i have seen on the forums. Sure it takes half a day to fully finish a game but that is the fun of it! What else can you honestly use as an excuse for having your buddies come over and spend practically the entire weekend in your basement?.. And yeah cruisers cost a bit too much, America making 50 some ipc’s off the bat is a tad ridiculous, and Spain is somehow the size of Australia, but you know what?.. I love this game, i have loved it, and i will continue loving it because it is awesome and i can change the cost of cruisers and starting ipc’s and laugh its geographical inaccuracies because this game isn’t perfect and nobody expected it to be. But it makes me happy and thankful of my purchase everyday, and that’s why Global 1940 is awesome

RE: Declaration of War triggers
the game starts with Germany and Italy at war with GB,France, and ANZAC. While in the pacific Japan is at war with china. Every country besides U.S. may declare war whenever they like and every country including U.S. will be at war once attacked by a country. They are only at war with that country however not the entire Axis or entire Allies.
unique rules:
USA= Axis attack on North America, London is captured (optional)
Japan= any allied units present in china
GB= attack of DEI
ANZAC=attack of DEImay have forgotten some, this was just off the top of my head :p

RE: Incomplete Global Game
I have a boatload of good pics but they were all to high of res to be viewed as attachments…… i am still working on getting better pics that are below the 1536 kb limit

RE: Incomplete Global Game
these are with my phone taking them while turned around as if i was taking a selfie (they use less storage to post) if anybody knows a better way to post pics please tell me as i still have board set up as it ended downstairs

RE: Incomplete Global Game
these are the only pics that i could get which didn’t exceed the 1536 kb limit

RE: Incomplete Global Game
So the Game opened up with the Germans doing exactly as i suggested, pulling off a Barbarossa, denying my SZ 125 NO, taking France/Normandy, and incapacitating my Ukrainian Industrial complex with strategic bombing to the maximum of 6(with one S. bomber) all on G1. He then purchased 5 tanks in Germany to let me know that this Eastern Front was going to be as bloody as the real one…… The Axis advance across the European/Mediterranean theater was Unparalleled. By F1, Both Cairo and Leningrad were in danger of being overrun the very next round… the only significant allied counterattack on the axis the whole round were the destruction of the German Baltic fleet (the Cruiser and Transport, not the Battleship), driving the Germans back out of Bessarabia, and ultimately fulfilling Taranto (UK lost a fighter, Tac. bomber, and a destroyer compared to Italy’s loss of only a transport and one hit on its Battleship)… the pacific theatre on the other hand experienced an uneasy calm as a miscommunication on the part of Japan made it think that it was not at war with china, so both sides built up for the coming onslaught … the next rounds continued and on the Russian front the only soviet progress was driving the sub out of SZ 125 via a purchased destroyer… i spent all other IPC’s on inf and the occasional artillery for mostly unsuccessful counterattacks… The axis around the board kept their momentum culminating in the successful siege of Leningrad G4… This however was the last major axis victory… Italy’s fleet and ground forces in North Africa were slaughtered in the payoff of UK building an IC in Egypt and moving most of its Indian fleet and South African destroyer into the Med… In the pacific, the battle of Midway was recreated and just like in history, the bulk of Japans fleet was lost and American dominance of the pacific was assured when Japans AC, BB, CR, and 2 DD went up against Americas 3 BB, AC, 3 fighters, 2 CR, 1 DD, 1 sub… Even though America took heavy losses, the battle resulted in no Japanese naval presence east of the home islands (other than the Carolina isle.)… In mainland Asia, Chinese forces managed to take advantage of their artillery and retook many territories and put pressure is on the brink of overrunning Shanghai and Hong Kong with British and ANZAC forces ready to assist from the south… A foolish venture by the Japanese was a attack on Siberia (which held 4 soviet inf) by 3 strategic bombers, which resulted in one soviet casualty and all 3 planes lost by Japan… these major losses suffered by Japan at land, air, and sea resulted in a very defeatist attitude by the player and a sealed victory in the pacific for the allies… the European Axis consisted of now still achieving victories, but of a much smaller scale and their momentum clearly slowing… After the loss of its North African forces Italy transported all reaming tanks and many infantry to Libya to hold out but suffered the loss of all remaining transports and subsequently its entire navy at the hands of the French navy… The Germans now have a stack of 8 tanks bordering and have held Leningrad… however they have been pushed back in the south out of Rostov and in the north out of Archangel and Moscow holds 12 inf an art and 3 AAA, and the Wehrmacht/ Luftwaffe has been spread far too thin to maintain its position in the east and will soon be pushed back (there is 6 inf from Amur that has almost made it to Moscow and will allow soviets to invest in more art and tanks to push back the Germans… By this point it is 4:00 am and everyone is exhausted and wants to finish the game in the morning… I comply, but by the time morning roles around we are all still too exhausted and people start leaving… and so I am left with an incomplete allied victory and until we finish (if ever) the axis will not agree that they have lost even though Japan and Italy are practically defeated and UK/America have naval and air forces ready to open up a second front for Germany which would spell defeat for the Axis

Incomplete Global Game
This past Friday I got my friends together to play our 2nd game of Global 1940…… The majority of my friends arrived at around 2:30 but two of our more experienced players couldn’t make it until 6 due to work and some family issues… in those 3 1/2 hours we brainstormed a lot of Ideas for teams and ended up with Myself as Japan and my friend Justin (who I described in my previous post on “Americas Fleet attacking Germany” as my equal if not superior) as Germany with my friend Ian as Italy… myself and everybody knew that Justin and I together would be incredibly unfair so we created a lot of factors which we hoped would balance out the teams (my friend Ian had never played axis and allies before which would balance out mine and Justin’s experience, we put an inf and art in French indo-china, made it easier for America to go to war, and the fact that I had only played as the axis once before and never played Japan)
Justin (10 time player) = 3rd Reich
Myself (9 time player) = Empire of Japan
Ian (new player) = Kingdom of Italy
VS.
Lucas (3 time player) = United Soviet Socialist Republics/France
Dillon (9 time player) = United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
Morgan (1 time player) = United States of America/China
Matthew (1/2 time player) = Australian New Zealand Army CorpsAnxiously awaiting the arrival of Dillon and Lucas I started plotting with the rest of the axis on our strategy. Now, Justin is more of a natural when it comes to strategy and figures out what he is going to do once the game goes on and doesn’t think about strategy beforehand, so he was all ears when i started filling him in with the advice I have seen throughout the forums about German strategy, specifically that of how to pull of an extremely successive G1 Barbarossa and taking forces from the west so there is just enough to take out France and still occupy it along with Normandy G1 while shipping enough east so that Russia is nothing short of overwhelmed… And Italy I filled in on all the tips and tricks that I possibly could to manage in axis and allies in the given amount of time… finally, after a lot of potato chips, Halo split screen, and plotting for world conquest, the last two allied powers arrived… And brought with them chaos… they simply would not settle for being put against myself and Justin and there were a lot of thrown goldfish because of it… so much to my dismay I was traded with Lucas and was now put in charge of the USSR, all my given advice to Nazi Germany was now going to most likely be my downfall…
