Look at it from a theoretical perspective and it’s quite simple. All those “conventional 150mm howitzers” you’re building for 4 IPCs don’t have the range to retailate against weaponry of cruiser caliber or above. So they’ll sit there on the coast under bombardment and like it!
If you don’t like it, then your answer is to create a house rule for a coastal defense / bunker fortification that can be built 🙂
I have been fooling around with a rather simple fortification/blockhaus rule:
limit one per territory
When attacked via land or by amphibious assault , rolls ONE retaliatory bombardment die at 4 or less.
Roll is made after any incoming bombardment fire from attacking vessels and you take an applicable hits. Any casualty you inflict is immediately selected and removed from the board by the attacker. The blockhaus DOESN’T roll a defense die in combat from then on.
Additionally, any hits you take during the rest of the battl against infantry or artillery in that territory are negated by saving throw if you roll a 6.
If the territory is captured, the fortification/blockhaus is removed from play.
Map - Well pretty nice (Even though mine was a lttle messed up on the fold line on one map board) largly a blown up version from the orginial A&A Pacific game board, Mexico, more of Canada, Russia and Alaska was nice to see but no Panama Canal (hope to see that in the Europe 1940 Boad) the canal was a Jap target more then once. Another nice point every thing was more realalic placed on the map Wake is now equal to Hawaii and not north of. But wheres Papua New Guinea on the map? Its on the old but gone on the new.
Units - a little beef, here not as nice scupts as in the past seems flaten in my set, and wheres a B-29 much more Iconic in the Pacific then anywhere else.

Marines, why were they left out I thought the unit and rule from the original were good enough
The set up, would have been nice to inclde a mid 42 set up.
Honestly with the size of the board I don’t think a carrier would do too much. You are much better off building destroyers and subs along with the occasional battleship for the extra hit it can absorb and for shore bombardment purposes too. The only time I will build a carrier is if the German player makes a mistake and I can take my time so I can have a really nice atlantic fleet, but usually that is not the case.
I often find that much of the Russian fighting power becomes stacked in Belorussia. Btt by building eight tanks each turn, I can easily use the combined forces to crush the Belorussian army, and after that the door to Moscow is blown wide open.

Has anyone done rules or map for an expanded (sub Sahara) Africa in AAE game? I know for the most part part the war was over in this part of the world by mid-1941 but games with 39, 40 and early 41 scenarios would be greatly aided with there inclusion, espically if your playing with France and Italy.
