      I do an all-out Balkan attack aimed mainly for Romania and Albania with a comparatively token force in Serbia. Stack in Tyrolia and Trieste for an A2 attack on Venice; Italy won’t attack you and if he does it’s suicide. Buy a sub A1 to strengthen the Adriatic fleet, and a fighter and 2I/2A in Vienna. The Romania attack is the most important. Try to, if not outright capturing it, neutralize the Romanian army so any Russian counter-attack can be crushed by your forces in Galicia. Albania is taken to prevent an Anglo-Italian expeditionary force operating on your southern border and drawing valuable troops off the Russian or Italian fronts. Serbia is not particularly important; you just have to send enough troops that the territory is contested. I’ve played 2 games as the CP so far, using this opening both times. The first time I didn’t send enough soldiers to Italy and overextended myself in Russia, so I was doomed when the Russians smashed my army in Ukraine R3 and the Italians fought me to a standstill in Venice. In the second game I sent more Germans to the East freeing up more Austrians for Italy, and managed to capture Moscow and push to the gates of Rome before the Americans overwhelmed me.

      Thank you for offering peace terms.
      I think we have played it to death and it can’t be too much fun for you.
      I accept your gracious surrender terms. Long live Napoleon!

      Brilliant and long see saw game. Thank you.
      I congratulate you.

      Your choice next. Would play another Global and will ty and set it up if you fancy being the Allies. Otherwise, please suggest something else.
      Hope you are all well.

      @Texas:

      I believe the basic line of thought is, the sooner Russia loses units, the sooner they are eliminated from the game.  Making a stand in Poland causes Russia to begin losing units turn 1, not to mention Germany has a pretty short supply line there.  Russia will lose its units on the defensive anyway, but if you can delay it until turn 3, 4, 5… the longer they will be around.

      Good post this is very true

      AH stacks in Galatia AH1 and attacks Romania with whatever can get there but cannot get to Galatia. Also attack Serbia obviously and I think you have to hold off on Venice till AH2 or so
      Russia is more important than Italy, especially early on

      Koningstiger: I worry that Austria attacking Albania is the same as amphibiously landing in Tuscany: it cannot be held. Albania is in SZ 17(Italy’s sphere) and they can always drop two men and bombard(Austrian Artillery would lessen the impact of course). UK and France probably want their navies in that SZ too, therefore eliminating any Austrian incursion out of the Adriatic.

      I once built an extra Dread on AH1 just for fun. The entente player freaked out and Italy wasted all it’s IPC that run on it’s own dread. The two forces then proceeded to sit there and stare at eachother the entire game…and then the Austrian tanks rolled into Rome.

      Moral of the story: Do crazy things and you’ll obviously win.

      Remember to have enough infantry saved to allow you to split up your force when you need to.
      Or you’re liable to get an army stuck in Moscow…

      Because of amphibious assaults.

      You can’t have boat loads of infantry waiting around in sea zones for the end of a naval battle that might last for months.

      I still think ships should be allowed to retreat from combat, however.

      Allowing planes to retreat after a round of aerial combat is another idea, but what happens to planes that withdraw and then have nowhere to land because their side has been wiped out on the ground?

      You could allow them to retreat to a friendly tt, but that in effect gives them an extra movement point, and it seems to go against the game mechanics.

      No one’s going to change the rules based upon theoretical purchases of units. Play some games, see what happens and what strategies work and don’t for an extended period before even considering this. Hell, maybe everyone just buys battleships?!

      Why wouldn’t the Russian sub at sz115 just submerge and attack your placed transports in sz113? If you instead place in sz112, either the SZ127 Russian Sub or UK would blow them up. I don’t see how this strategy works… If you also build a DD, then maybe.

      That is in fact what happened in my recent games.  I do build a DD to place with the transport.  I can also scramble 3 fighters if the sub attacks it.  In fact, the better move turned out to be the sub submerged.  On R1 the sub, 2 fighters, 1 tac attacked my BB and CV that were left.  One game Germany won the battle but clearly defying the odds.  The other time it was Russia winning with all the planes.  I actually am considering waiting till G2 to attack the Russian CV and sub in future games.

      Does it help if the Japanese march everything straight across China?  They could be at Tsinghai/Kansu J4 with air units nearby to kill off the Siberians on J5.

      It would certainly help except I believe Japan has a big enough task holding off the 5 countries.  I like taking China down to almost nothing before US gets involved, then take DEI’s, then try to withstand a full Pacific buy from the US.  In the meantime, Germany should be able to make its way through Russia and its all up to the oil fields after that.

      The British don’t even need to put much in India- they start with significant forces in India and Egypt- not to mention they can activate Arabia.

      Perhaps you can get behind the simplistic solution flash to not allow US units to move.
      Doesn’t upset the balance of how many units they would have by turn 4, just where they are.

      without a restriction on movement. In picardy on turn 3 with 4 units
      WITH a restriction on movement. In picardy on turn 5 with 6-8 units

      For sure it would be awesome to make our own at home!

      In the meantime, if you really want to and can come up with an appropriate 3d art file, Shapeways would be a good alterntative for some special items (they spent the money on the uber-expensive equipment already).  It just sucks to have to wait for it, pay their overhead and then pay for shipping.

      I’d LOVE to have a 3d printer though!

      Same as before except:

      All new ground units are placed in the capital.

      All new ships are placed in tts with a naval base.

      UK can place some units in India (not ships), but we don’t know if there’s a limit to this.

      There is no production in Africa, which is why some think its pretty pointless having Africa in the game at all.

      My suggested house rule is that any power holding African tt can build a limited number of “Askaris” there on a turn; basically native infantry who must be accompanied at all times by “regular” troops. They cost 2 and fight at -1 on attack and defence (can still be boosted by artillery).
      Without them, Africa will have fewer units than tts and see very little action.

      @FieldMarshalGames:

      How does production work?  What are the limits?  Are there stacking limits?

      Can you / how do you produce in Africa?

      @MrMalachiCrunch:

      I wasn’t going to comment but positive feedback should not be withheld.  The choices were pretty amusing especially the one about the original Nova version, I wish I still had mine.  Had the question been “ever” and not “last 5 years” I would have been honoured to check that one.  I guess I really am getting old!  Say that to me at the gym after an hour sonny!   😉

      True, I could have checked off a few more myself if the question was ‘ever,’  but I was more curious as to what games are still being played, and from the looks of it, most of them are, even the ones that are more than a decade old.

      I took my 1999 Europe, 2001 Pacific, 2004 Revised, 1942, 1942 2nd edition, and 1941 and put them into Artbins. Like you, I left specific campaign, global, and AA50th in their boxes.

      Sometimes we will use British bomber(s) to hit Northern Italy IC.
      US bombers based in London often will hit Normandy, S France and France ICs. Sometimes will hit W Germany if German player doesn’t have too many fighters to intercept. Also will hit Germany if Allies control Norway or Novgorod for bombers to land.
      If US Navy is doing well in the Pacific, US usually takes Iwo Jima and lands bombers there to pound Japan’s facilities. Often escorted by Carrier planes.

      Strangely enough, don’t usually do a lot of SBRs with Axis bombers.

      Egypt IC is h20 solid. Depends on your overall strategy in relation to the axis.

      you can get fighters to fly to russia 2) you can do the convoy thing to italy 3) you can guard it with 3 inf a turn spam 4) sometimes you need naval for Japan and shazam wam bam there you go!

      When is it not good?

      persia is a faster route to flying fighters to russia 2) Italy not an issue and you making naval off of london to do drops 3) if you lose the complex before using it or will lose it anyway 4) union can be used to pump out naval for Japan if you really need to do it.

      @BJCard:

      So a British IC in Persia or Iraq is recommended if someone does this?  I’ve never really liked an Egypt IC.

      For me, I would have needed at least two ICs in the Egypt-Persia belt.  But you pretty much need them before the Axis show up in Turkey, otherwise you won’t have enough units to hold the area.

      It seems vital for the UK to have an Egypt IC down by at least UK2, preferably UK1, but this opens you up to the potential of a Sea Lion.  It’s a very catch-22 situation for the UK which I discussed at length in this other thread:
