The only reason the Iowa class BBs win were they were built later than most other BBs and enjoyed many advances in technology (fire control, damage control, etc…)

RE: Your WWII Movie
Easy. Do one that hasn’t been given true justice. This of course is the story of the USS Enterprise, the most decorated warship of WWII. At one time it was the only operating US fleet carrier fighting Japan. It missed pearl harbor, fought in the battles of midway, santa cruz (Solomon islands), Philippine sea, and of course Leyte Gulf.

RE: Germany playbook: overall strategy guide
Am I missing something big or did v2 change the rules about mech infantry. How are you attacking southern france with them if no armors are helping you to move the 2 instead of 1?
They could always move two spaces, they just cannot blitz without armors.

RE: 2013 WWII Battleship Match Up
@ABWorsham:
Tomahawks in 1945?
It was a bit tongue in cheek as the OP did not specify what version ‘year’ the BB would be fighting.

RE: Preparing the Sleeping Dragon. US1-3 2nd Edition
Hmm. doesn’t sound like Germany was helping Italy very much in that. Without German help, Italy is doomed.

RE: POLL: Best rounds to start the global war?
True… but if Japan’s choices are destroy the american pacific fleet, destroy the joint indian/chinese army, or destroy the russian army- they probably kill american fleet utterly, buying them several turns of dominance in the sea to systematically win asia.
-
RE: Combat move clarification
You cannot do this. All combats happen at the same time. Unless you are blitzing your tanks through an unoccupied enemy territory, then they can move the 2nd space to attack.

RE: POLL: Best rounds to start the global war?
You say ‘just shove it,’ but if the axis attack works in yunnan or the pacific, or wherever this stack battle is, the allies may not be able to recover. One time I did stack Yunnan with everything that can reach. Japan had a ~40% win ratio per triplea. Well, he attacked anyway, and now dead chinese fighter, dead indian fighters, dead allied everything in asia. japan won going away. with those forces held in reserve, japan couldn’t have advanced as fast.
I get what you are saying though, but all I am saying is that if you present Japan with lots of juicy targets, he will oblige somewhere.

RE: Air campaign over Germany 1943-45
Could start a bit earlier, say 1940 or 1941 and include southern England. After 1942 the allies’ has air supremacy for the most part.
Also tech… have jet fighters, anti-air missiles, pressurized bomber cockpits, long range fighters, etc…

RE: 2013 WWII Battleship Match Up
I’m not sure that any battleship could beat the Missouri. I must admit, I don’t recognize some of the ship names, but the Iowa class battleships were the most advanced true battleships every built. The range on its main battery would decimate anything else before it got close- not to mention the crew’s training.
Hell, the Missouri has TOMAHAWKS… I mean, what other battleship has missiles like that?
1. Duke of York
2. Missouri
3. Yamato
4. Bismark
5. Kongo
6. Vittorio Veneto
7. North Carolina
8. Scharnhorst
9. Jean Bart
10. Alabama
11. Nagato
12. Texas
13. Dunkerque
14. Arkansas -
RE: Images of the Map?
Flashman, can you make out more of the map from the ‘6 second box opening’?

RE: What impact will the USA have, if any?
I was referring to US troops getting British and French equipment ‘turning into’ artillery and tanks. Definitely not against x number of infantry turning up on turn 4. They will need them.
-
RE: What impact will the USA have, if any?
I think we need to keep it simple Flashman- the US not getting money until turn 4 with a ‘bonus’ would be easier.

RE: Italian Options
How can Britain and France reinforce Albania in a single turn? Their units are built several territories away. If you mean on the first turn, then yeah I suppose they have units in range to be landed by sea in one turn. Otherwise, Britain and France have to plan a couple turns in advance if they want to reinforce Albania (building in India/Paris/London and then moving them).
It may take a week to gather a WWI Infantry division, load them up on a train, move them, unload them, reorganize them so they are ready to fight, and then go fight. You not only have to rail the men, but their weapons, food, and other supplies as well. This is with early 20th century railroads, well in Italy maybe 19th century. I don’t know, I’m no rail expert.
-
RE: Italian Options
I like your Italy moves. I for one feel like Italy has few options if Austria hits it hard. Maybe it would have been better to combine the Italian and French fleets to ensure the Austrian fleet doesn’t get any funny ideas.
Every turn is a week, and thus there is rail movement in the game (The US comes into the war way too early).

RE: Preparing the Sleeping Dragon. US1-3 2nd Edition
Well, if Germany does a G1 (or even G2), the Eastern front rarely requires much German air because Russia usually has to retreat slowly in that they cannot win a stack battle with the Germans.
Therefore, Germany puts its entire airforce in West Germany (yes, planes can land in Algeria or Gibraltar if Italy takes it). In my games Germany routinely takes southern France too- and places a sub or two there per round, which can move into the gibraltar fleet as well.
The German players I have played recently rarely bat an eye losing some air for sinking the allied transports. As a bonus, if the US builds enough in Europe to counter attack gibraltar or Morocco, less if facing Japan.
I suppose if Germany doesn’t commit much to stopping UK/US fleet at gibraltar, then you’re fine.
Maybe I’m just frustrated playing the Allies recently, because I can’t get anything to Gibraltar without being decimated before turn 6 or so, and by then russia is down to moscow (with 50 infantry, but still)
-
RE: Liberating A Territory
If Germany takes all Russian factories including Moscow and subsequently the UK liberates a non-moscow russian factory, the UK can collect money from the russian territory and build units at the russian factory. Once the allies take Moscow back, the UK no longer collects that money or use that factory.
Does that help?>

RE: POLL: Best rounds to start the global war?
On the other hand I think that anything before J2/G2 is to rushed. Doesnt give you enough time to properly position and strengthen yourself for a long solid campaign of war.
I understand the thought process you have, and it’s what I used to do every game G3:J3; but the Allies have such an IPC advantage that the Axis should be aggressive early. Russia and India would be able to have a wall of Infantry. ANZAC would have a proper fleet, and the US would be ready to strike with its starting units plus ~200 IPCs worth of units.
But, then again you certainly can do well as Axis on G3:J3, just depends on who you are playing and the strategies involved by both parties.
