I can’t believe how amazing those infantry look. I’m so excited.

RE: France
If Larry doesn’t take into consideration Vichy France, then that will be a big blunder.
Per LH
FYI - After wrestling with this Vichy siht, I decided to skip the whole thing. France will be considered an ally power and that’s it. The confusion generated by the Vichy loyalty thing is just not worth the extra game steps. Also… perhaps I did not mention this but if and when France is liberated it reappears as a self-standing power with its own economy. The rule may end up providing France with an automatic influx of new units appearing on the board. - I’m still toying with this idea. It’s got to be simple and instinctive.Aw, France should switch sides during the game, Marshal Petain in VF was a total German collaborator, probably worse than Quisling in Norway. Vichy France paid millions of francs to “sustain occupying forces” for Germany (spoils), was totally controlled by the SS and was compliant in persecutions, plus there were some French who joined anti-communism divisions and definitely worked with the German authorities.
At this time in history, after the Great Depression of the 30’s, democracies were seen as inherently “weak” and prone to lacking the resolve to combat the helplessness caused by the failure of the world economic system. Fascism was seen as a viable alternative to democratic governments ruled by the whims of public opinion and the depressed economy. The rise of Nazi Germany was mostly done the same way that other governments got out of the depression, lots and lots of govt. spending, but you couldn’t tell that the rebuilding of Germany from WWI wasn’t ALL due to the switch to fascism.
At the beginning of WWII, Germany had just burst out of its borders and was seen as unstoppable in taking over all of Europe and possibly the world. France at this junction was trying to make the most out of a bad situation and there were definitely willing collaborators trying to get as much out of the new world order as they could. There was definitely some resistance, too, but for the most part the French realized they had been beaten and knew they had to go along with the Jerries for quite some time before help would come.
Let whichever side controls Paris have the French on their team! The Free french could be under control of the British player, and if the Allies liberate Paris, have the dice rolled again to see if the territories revert back to Allied control! Would be funny as hell to see France switch sides 3-4 times per game!
All this may be, but like he said it’s all for game balance.

RE: Rules Q&A
FIC was Vichy France and alowed Japan install bases and enter troops
French Pacific islands were Free France so it has sense they don’t allow Japan enter
Ok thanks.

RE: Rules Q&A
Keeps the game true to it’s roots, WWII. And from what I know, once turn three is completed, regardless of how the game is going, everyone automatically declares war on Japan.
A launching pad that close to Australia early game without declaring war could be incredibly useful though.
EDIT: Also, not sure if this has already been addressed, but can you make a NB or AB in a territory the turn you acquire it?
-
RE: Rules Q&A
French Indo-China is the only territory that can be invaded without declaring war on the Allies.
I’m assuming that if Japan takes New Hebrides before J4, that’s also a declaration of war on the Allies?
I don’ think so, they can invade FIC without declaring war.
That’s strange, they can invade the French territory that has IPC value but not the one that’s worthless?

RE: Japan Idea
I was considering (without studying the map and setups) setting up a forward base that the US could not ignore in someplace like the carolina’s or iwo. With a stack of infantry to protect fighters and a NB/AB and a large portion of the Japanese fleet, in such a location, it might set up a couple dead zones that the US might not be so quick to rush through.
Add to this a build up on Hainin and you may keep a good position for a couple extra turns.
It seems like it would be tough to do all of this as well as keep China, India and ANZAC occupied. Japan doesn’t have too many resources starting out.

Razor is a personality that Aldertag likes to use. It’s a Sybil thing.
Who is this Aldertag I seem to hear so much about?

RE: The new SBR system
Realistically, it’s only a viable option if the defender has little to no airforce left. This takes that into account very well, the entire point is that realistically it wouldn’t be worth attacking a factory if it had even an average force defending it.

RE: American split income?
@Brain:
I look at A&A as a 2 player game so I couldn’t care less about an individual country being the winner.
Really? I find it much more fun with all the spots filled.

RE: ANZAC NO #2
It should be “1 IPC for each originaly japanese territory under allied control, up to a maximum of 5”
So if the US takes the Carolines and the Marinas, ANZAC gets 2 IPCs for its bonus
The once in a lifetime offer of 5 IPCs is a little lame
And whats up with china getting a 6 IPC bonus? Keep them all to 5 for simplicity…or make more than just china’s variable
All china can buy is infantry and artillery so it’s for simplicities sake. 5 would give you leftovers.

RE: Japan Idea
@WILD:
Yea I think that having a base of operations off the coast of FIC will prove to be very strategic for Japan. Especially because it can move in without declaring war round 1. Its a nice staging point to hit China, India or Australia, and it will take a while for the US to get there to help. By the way you won’t be able to build there rd #1, you have to take it first. rd #1 take FIC
rd #2 build minor IC (so you can use it right away)
rd #3 build NB and what ever else you think you might need. (ships, air or ground)
rd #4 maybe AB etc…he’s not actually building the AB and NB on FIC, he’s building it on Hainan which Japan starts off with, so he can build an AB there on the first turn as he takes FIC.

RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion thread
True, but in order to ensure production happens and there is funding for the rest of the pieces, think chain letter meets pyramid scheme. In other words, buy A&A for your friends X-mas presents, then play a bunch of games with them to get them really hooked. Then show them this thread and tell them to put some money aside for their pieces etc. etc. We could be at the top of the pyramid and get all the pieces we ask for as long as we keep making sales for FMG.
That’s a lot harder than it sounds haha. I’ve been trying to do that for 2 years and I can still barely get a full game together.

RE: France and what should be done about it.
@Brain:
Yeah, but the Russians didn’t surrender.
Keep in mind they didn’t really have much of a say in the matter :lol:

RE: First impressions
Ive only played the game once, as the Allies, so I dont have the Japanese perspective yet, but I must agree with DJensen’s post. Japan was spread way too thin, and even though they looked after rounds 3-5 like a win was inevitable, the game started slowly tu torn after that and the Allies eventually won in the 9th round.
The American Juggernaught is just ridiculous once they have a supply line established, and Japan has to get just enough cities that it makes it hard for them to get that last one. India is not a piece of cake, and Austrailia is fairly close to the US that once they are in the war they can easily fortify. It seems like Japan is always one city short of victory, and they just dont have the resources to get it.
I’d be very curious if i could win the game with Japan.
Yeah I had the same problem with original Pacific. I never played a game where Japan won.
-
RE: First impressions
I’m thinking as Japan an invasion of New Zealand could be a viable option. Stationing a fleet at the sea around New Guinea in the first two turns then invading on the third. Gives you a free Minor IC right off Australia and provides a good distraction to US.

As long as it looks good I’m happy.

RE: What Scupts to use for France
@Imperious:
I prefer top left. I other one has one leg in the air. it wont take longe before that scult would bend and no longer stand properly. Both feet need to be on the floor.
Yeah I noticed that. Could easily be changed; it’s kind of like the German dude in a way.
