I can register for a mediafire account and upload a functioning module so that people won’t have to register for FoE and I’ll also correct some errors like the one ksmckay mentioned.
That would be much appreciated.

There are 5 boxes for units
in AAP40.
In my game the China Box holds Chinese inf, couple of US artillery, a fighter from 2nd Edition A&A, AA50 US fighter (haven’t decided which I like better for Flying Tiger), Ziploc bag (snack size) with all nations roundels, Ziploc bag (snack size) with the cardboard chits (MjIC, MnIC, AB, NB, AAgun), and the bag of dice and chips I never opened (I use my own 3 colors of chips and 9 colors of dice).
Because there are so few Chinese parts, that where the other stuff goes. :-P
@Imperious:
Yes indeed. Play the game and find out the opposite. Then post like most others… how does Japan have any chance to win?
Wise words indeed.
This game is FAR from balanced, it is should not even be considered unbalanced, it is BROKEN. Don’t agree? Setup the game. Now, replace every tac bomber that isn’t on a carrier with a tank. Then look at the board. Would you consider this game balanced at the start? The INSANE amount of air power the Japanese get to start the game is ridiculous. Attack J1, by J2 you are taking the DEI. Game over. Every time.
Oh, how time will time how wrong you are!
This game has not even been out for two weeks, and you think you solved it?
You think you are that smart, to declare AAP40 broken already.
Some made claims about AA50 Axis, but others started trying differnet things in the Pacific(AA50) to slow down Japan. Give the game 6 months (or a year, but we all know that Global Game imbalance claims will start and people will not play AAP40 as much) to see what solutions people come up with for the Allies.
Give the puzzle a chance man, give it a chance.
No of course they cannot. Scrambling are done after combat move is finished, and the enemy have to end its move in that seazone.
Good point, thank you for pointing out the game’s mechanics to find the answer.
Say a lone transport( with land units) attacks an island with a fighter and an airbase on it.
The seazone was empty before the Combat Move.
May the fighter scramble to the seazone to defend against the transport’s amphibious assault?(automatically destroying it).
Even though the seazone was empty, is it still considered a combat in the seazone allowing the fighter to scramble?
(I guess ‘yes’ for both Q1 & Q2)
Scramble question for Krieghund. (AAP40)
Example: The US wants to do an amphibious assault on Japan owned Paulau Island (sz34).
The US uses a transport and land units from sz48 (Gilbert Island) passing though sz33 (Caroline Islands: 1fighter,operative Airbase) to get to sz34 (Paulua Island).
Does Japan have the option of using the Caroline Islands’ fighter to “scramble block” the transport as it passes by?
Rules/concepts to not allow Scramble Blocking:
The point: The US is not 'attacking’sz33, but in fact ‘attacking’ sz34 and Paulau.
“Sea zones are either friendly or hostile. Friendly sea zones contain no surface warships belonging to a power with which you are at war. Hostile sea zones contain surface warships belonging to a power with which you are at war (this dose not include submarines and transports).”
The point: there are no surface warships in sz34 to prevent the transport from going to sz35.
The point: a scrambled fighter is not a ‘surface warship’.
Rules/concepts to allow Scramble Blocking:
a) rulebook>page14>Scramble>paragragh1>
“These air units can join other friendly units in the sea zone or be the only friendly units there.”
The point(a weak point): The Airbase in somewhat of an extension if the island’s/seazone defense system.
There is more wording on scrambled air units on page 16 (under Air Units) that did not seem to apply to this question.
(Repeating the question) Krieghund: Does Japan have the option of using the Caroline Islands’ fighter to “scramble block” the transport as it passes by?
My guess is no, they cannot.
If the DD was mobilized there then the Collect Income is next and the Convoy Raid occurs.
you answered your own question.
Opps….sorry.
Who is the owner of the British Columbia? It has a canadian symbol on it. Is it neutral? Can USA pass through it, ie. with a tank, to reinforce Alaska?
If there in not a DOW (declrtn of war) then no, the US may not use British Columbia.
Who is the owner of the British Columbia? It has a canadian symbol on it. Is that territory owned by UK?
For this game it belongs to the UK.
For the global game, there will be more information about Canada.
The UK even bought TWO carriers over 2 turns and had 4 planes, an additional DD and 2 subs.
You are leading us on the right path, with trying different purchasing options and strats for the Allies.
Many were applying their Revised strats to AA50 with wild claims one way or the other with regards to balance. Then, after some time, people started to try new things a few with success, most not.
One we figure the timing and general strat of Japan, then the Allies can look for weaknesses.
This map is a new puzzle, and where would be the fun if we figured it out in the first 10 times we played it?
+1 to Uncle_Joe for his thoughts
Well, it looks like you are a very good player of A&A.
I had asked how many rounds, because some have said they played 4 rounds and think they know the outcome of the game.
With so many more territories, this game will take longer.
Just think, if there were 5 territories and 3 sea zones, and only 100 IPC of units on the game board–-the game would be shorter. If there were 500 territories and 250 sea zones with 4000 IPC of units the game would be very long. It looks like now that we will have Papa Bear, Momma Bear, and Baby Bear (1940 Global, AA50, and AA42) to choose from.
can subs disrupt a convoy in a sea zone where a destroyer is present?
First one has to answer HOW this destroyer got there at the time of convoy raiding!
If the DD was moved there during Combat Move, then the DD or the sub will be gone (destroyed unit or retreated DD) by the end of conduct combat.
If the DD was mobilized there then the Collect Income is next and the Convoy Raid occurs.
How many rounds did you play in these 3 games?
The Allies come back later in the game.
Try playing with 2 people. Splitting the Allies into three minds vs. one mind of thought puts the Allies at a disadvantage.
Are one of the Allies getting their NO?
What turn in Japan declaring war?
I am glad the corrections are now, while the game is new.
+many to Krieghund for his work and taking so much flack.
Welcome Iwo Jima Joe
+1 for your first posting!
page 24 of the AAP40 rulebook
under Mechanized Infantry
“A mechanized infantry unit must normally stop when it enters an enemy controlled territory. However, when moving along with a tank, it can enter an unoccupied enemy controlled territory as the first part of a two-space move that can end in a friendly or hostile territory.”
The wording ‘when moving along with a tank’, ‘must normally stop’, and ‘as the first part of a two-space move’ would mean an answer of –must come from the same territroy-- to your question above.
Of course Japan (or UK) can take New Hebrides without starting a bloody war, man. They can take all the Dutch islands, so why should they not be allowed to take the French islands ?
If Japan attacks the Dutch, then war is declared on all the Allies.
page 8 of rulebook
under sub heading The Political Situation
“However, any combat movements against the British, Dutch, ANZAC, or American Territories, troops, or ships by the Japanese will bring all the Allied powers into the war.”
First off, +5 to Canuck12 for a well written article.

I had this in mind while setting up my AAP40 for the first time.
I looked at the 4 cardboard chits (AAgun, MJIC, Navel Base, Air Base) at India and said to myself, “Self, these look fine and sit nice together. The cardboard is ok.”
Then latter, something dastardly happened…a Strategic Bombing Raid! I attempted to pick up the cardboard chit to place some chips under it. Alas, it was not to be.
The cardboard chit is cut from the top of the sheet, making the cross section of it a trapezoid. It is tapered, not square cut, proving difficult to pick up while laying flat on the map.
I flipped the Naval Base upside-down and tried again…this time with much success. My thumb could push on the tapered edge to lift the little square chit and allow my finger to lift it.
The roundels suffer the same problem.
If there were not chips to be put under the cardboard chits, then that would be fine.
Plastic pieces would be easier to pick up and place chips underneath. Thicker cardboard would help…OR…if the manufacturer had die cut the cardboard from the back, then pushing on the tapered edge would act as an fulcrum to lift the cardboard chit.
Canuck12, I like what you wrote, but I am leaning toward ‘hating on cardboard’.
I liked:
—nice BIG map (This is the biggest most important thing I liked!)
—setup cards as part of the box tops (only used for setup and not the rest of the game)
—that there still were individual boxes for each country (did not have to buy Plano boxes)
—glad the IPC are gone (too many money errors using paper money vs. writing it down)
----that the map folds (I know some hate that the folds cause some of the pieces to sit funny, but the most of the fold lines are near borders and the areas are large enough to accommodate those pieces away from the fold in the map. A folded map work for years of play with the 2nd edition and is not a fragile hinge like Revised.)
I disliked:
—too few dice and chip (I did not open the chip/dice bag for Revised, AA50, or AAP40. I use my own.)
—too few Tactical Bombers for Japan.
What is your number imprinted on the back of SZ59 AAP40 game board?
Mine is 92731. (this number also is on the bottom right corner of the box.)
Are they all the same number?
What does it mean?
Will India be 2 territories for AAG40 (Global Game)? (it looks like it from the back of the board.)

@Brain:
Nice work!
+1 to you.
Would you please change ‘bomber’ to ‘tach bomber’ or ‘tactical bomber’ in the #3 zone?
That might clutter it up and I think the icon speaks for itself. IMHO of course.
Maybe if the Tac Bomber looked like the allies Tach bomber with 2 engines, the icon would be fine…but the Tac Bomber icon and the Fighter icon look similar to me.
But there should be no mistaking the fighter for the tactical bomber because of the text.
True that!
