I’d be interested. I’m pretty handy with the Adobe suite. Want to post a sketch of what you envision?

RE: SNLF Infantry sculpts from Amerika: How tall are they?
That’s helpful! Thank you very much.
He is slightly taller but so are some of my other infantry pieces. Aren’t the Japanese OOB infantry the shortest of all, anyway?

RE: SNLF Infantry sculpts from Amerika: How tall are they?
Oh, I’ve seen photos of the pieces on their own. I should have clarified: what I meant was, how tall are the pieces compared to the standard out-of-box Japanese infantry sculpts?

SNLF Infantry sculpts from Amerika: How tall are they?
If someone could post a description or a comparison photo, I would really appreciate it!
EDIT: Compared to OOB infantry. Thx!

Anyone want to go in on this auction with me?
“Amerika Combat Pieces from HBG – Japanese set Reg & Exp – 90 Pieces.”
I’m interested in maybe 8 of the infantry pieces, some of the tanks, and some of the planes, but I don’t have room for the rest. Does anyone want to work out a deal to buy all of the other pieces from me if I win this auction for $45?

RE: HBG's new German set- release date?
Any updates? Has anyone received their new pieces yet?

HBG's new German set- release date?
Anybody know when HBG will be shipping its new German expansion set?

RE: Expanding Board Game pieces
I’d be glad to hear your opinion of HBG’s custom sculpts… if I just want to enlarge my copy of 1942 SE’s available force pool… are there any must haves or must avoids?
I think that there are definitely some must-haves. Personally and I may be alone on this, but I’m not too crazy about HBG’s very early releases, such as their first German set. I find that the quality of those sculpts is just a bit “off”, but HBG totally won me over with their last few sets, starting with the Russian Early War set. IMO, that’s when their quality level jumped up noticeably, and the sets that they’ve done since then, the Japan, UK, and US Expansion Sets (as opposed to the Supplement Sets), have been excellent/A+.
Also, just in case you don’t know, some of their battle pieces are of various scales to the effect of: Heavy Tank, Medium Tank, Light Tank, in order to accommodate games which incorporate those. So, right off the bat, I want to let you know that the US Pershing and the custom German Tiger are large pieces, so if you’re just playing A&A and you want to keep the piece size to a minimum to save space (like I am), that’s something to be aware of. Likewise, the Japanese G8N Riga and UK/ANZAC Sterling Heavy Bomber pieces are relatively large, and so is the 155mm M1A1 Heavy Artillery.
There is one piece that I would advise you to avoid, which is the Swordfish Naval Fighter. I really want to love the Swordfish sculpt, but many of mine have tails that are slightly twisted… and I’ve read on this forum that you might be able to fix this by dunking the piece in hot water, and then cold water, but I haven’t had the time to try this yet. If I do, I’ll post about it.
Anyway, on to the recommendations! The following are pieces that I particularly appreciate and would like to recommend.
United States —
The M4A3 Sherman is my favorite piece. I replaced all of my original US tanks with these. They’re solid, they’re molded really well, they “fit right in” and look awesome on your board.
http://www.historicalboardgaming.com/5X-M4A3-Sherman-Medium-Tank–Olive-Drab_p_2087.htmlThe US Late War Infantry look fantastic. Again, this one fits-in on your board perfectly, the proportions of the trooper’s head, boots, et cetera, are spot on. A+
http://www.historicalboardgaming.com/5X-US-Late-War-Infantry-w-MG–Olive-Drab_p_2078.htmlI’m very happy with my P-80 Shooting Stars. They’re a nice solid sculpt with thick features that won’t bend or warp.

The Type 89 Cannon is very solid. Grade A.
http://www.historicalboardgaming.com/5X-Type-89-Cannon-Heavy-Artillery–Pumpkin-Orange_p_1764.htmlThe J9Y Kikka Jet is solid as well and looks absolutely vicious! It’s a great opponent for your P-80 Shooting Star. This one deserves an A+.

The Humber Scout Car makes for a great Mechanized Infantry piece, IMO. I use them alongside my original out-of-box M5 half-tracks in that role. In my experience, about 1 out of 5 of these seem to have a crooked gun or a bent turret, but the coolness of this piece is worth it anyway. It’s otherwise solid, the wheels look great. It’s an A-.
http://www.historicalboardgaming.com/5X-Humber-Scout-Car–UK-Tan_p_1887.htmlThe Churchill Heavy Tank is a somewhat large piece, but I had to get this one anyway, and I’m glad that I did. Again, about 1 out of 5 of mine had issues, again with the turret. Just want to let you know that if you go with these, you might end up benching 1 or 2 duds like I did. However, the ones that look good, look great! So, they’re worth it. A- for these.

The KV-2 Heavy Tank is a beast. It’s about the same length as the out-of-box T-34, the turret is appropriately tall. The piece feels very solid and weighty. Highly recommended.

RE: Expanding Board Game pieces
Let me know if you have any questions about the different pieces- size, quality, etc. I’d be glad to share my opinions on HBG’s custom sculpts.

RE: G40 Battle board, IPC tracker etc to download?
I don’t have any resources for ya, but I’m curious, how/where did you print the map and did you get a good deal? I’m thinking of doing the same.

RE: Quality of Amerika sculpts?
Okay. Must have been an unusual example of someone’s bent piece or something. Cool. Thanks!

Quality of Amerika sculpts?
Have any of you gotten these yet? Can you review the quality of Amerika’s sculpts? Judging by the pictures that I’ve seen, to me they look softer and more flexible than HBG’s usual stuff. Are they made out of a vinyl type of material?

RE: HBG's new U.S. Expansion Set
@coachofmany:
I have just received my US units I have attached some photos. I was just wondering if what the fifth air unit is? It looks like an F6F Hellcat fighter. But there is nothing on the website about it.
Nice! They look pretty good. How’s the color compared to the OOB stuff?
HBG Olive Drab color is very close to Global 40 2nd Edition IMHO.
I don’t know, Coach! I just bought a few of your new Shermans from a friend and I was pleasantly surprised that they match my 1st Edition US pieces pretty well.
These Sherman sculpts are ace. You guys did a good job with these and now I’m looking forward to getting some of the other ones too.
EDIT: Okay, upon closer inspection in daylight, I changed my mind. They are definitely closer in tone to 2nd Edition US.

Using lacquer on HBG's pieces to match OOB luster?
HBG’s sculpts are great, but they lack the smooth finish of the OOB pieces. So, I did a little test and sprayed an HBG piece with some Testors semi-gloss spray lacquer. It made the piece a little too glossy compared to the OOB stuff, but it did give the piece a slightly smoother feel to it. That got me wondering, would flat/lusterless spray lacquer add a tiny bit of luster, or none at all? It might slightly improve the feel of the piece if nothing else, and should help protect the softer plastic against damage. However, I don’t have a can of that stuff and that might be $7 wasted if it doesn’t improve anything. Anyone have any input on this?
Finally, if you happen to have a can of flat spray lacquer amongst your modeling tools, and if you happen to have a spare HBG sculpt laying around… would you mind doing a test for me?

Okay, so you went for the tone of the 2nd Edition pieces. That’s cool. It’s a better color, IMO.

RE: Tip for Cleaning Paint off A & A Game Pieces
I have also used Simple Green to strip paint from my A&A pieces. It works perfectly - just soak them overnight, and give the pieces a scrubbing with an old toothbrush to remove what’s left from all the little crevices. For reference, I was using Testors Model Master enamel paint.
