i watched the youtube video from GHG about China in GW 36 V 3 (i try to learn as much as possible about the game). His videos are great but there are some things about China im not sure about i understood correctly if i start at 36. Its about the releationship between CCP, KMT and the Warlords.
What happens if the CCP attacks a Chinese Warlord (are they allowed to attack warlords?)? Is it correct if they attack one warlord that all warlords go to KMT?
What happens if the KMT attacks the warlords. Do all of them become CCP?
What happens to the warlords if the CCP attack the KMT and vice versa?
Am i correct to assume that all Warlords become KMT if Japan attacks KMT?
What happens to CCP if Japan Attacks KMT or one of the Warlords?
It would be nice if someone could help me to answer my questions. Btw. im really excited to play the game in November ;-)
We will play this game with low luck rules. We only played A&A with low luck. Many games get really destroyed by too dicey decissions. Low luck is fairer and keeps the game more intersesting. For example when you role for income. We will give a country 6 ipp (oh god i miss the old ipc word ;-)) for one dice role. So you dont have to role for income. For us its much more fun to calculate outcomes. A little bit of luck yes. But not too much. This for example made our A&A games much more fun.
One of the most imbalances i can imagine are the different technologies you can get in the game. Some of them are well nice to have. But others are just broken. I can tell you from any A&A game that longrangeaircraft is broken. We are thinking about to play the 36 game without development or at least we will ban some of the tech choices (long range aircraft). If germany gets longrange well good luck with your game its straight up broken.
I bought the 39 version map from hbg and many pieces for it. Well my game group and i returned to axis and allies global 40 because the balance of the 39 version of the game is broken. There was no way the allies can win the game if you play axis correct (many people also told me this and wrote articles about it). Now i bought the 36 version and hope it gets better.
I really hope that the 36 version is balanced. I put quite a bit of money into this game. We will play in November (i take one week of from work for it). I cant point out enough that gamebalance is just more important than historical correctness. Aslo its so funny how many people say but we want a more historical game. If you look at A&A global it has enough historical correctness. No one knows what would have happened if there would be other decissions made in ww2. Perhaps sealion was possible. No one can really tell you if it would be successfull (im happy it never happened in reality)… But i rally dont see why so many people are complaining about historical corectness in A&A games…
Please dont get me wrong. I really like the epic map of 36 and 39 form hbg. And more units. Better rules for some extend (the submarine rules are just too complex). But if the game is heavily unbalanced it destroys all the fun you can have with the game. Historical corectness to some degree is important but gamebalance is quite more important. I really really hope this game has a good balance.
But hey i trust hbg and the people who wrote that its quite good balanced. Also most of the time you need many many games to see if a game has good balance or not.
I bought the game Amerika today from HBG. The units are good material.

@Noneshallpass: Thx for your reply i love the big map (I have the biggest of Global 1939) and yes the quest is expensive but its so much fun if you have some money to spend.
@Noneshallpass i just ordered tokens for cavalary and militia (i have airborne tokens from 39 versions and i have tons of models from other A&A games). I will take the 1914 tanks for light tanks. The good thing is its easier to distinguish them from other tanks. I have many ideas.

A&A Global 1940 will also always stay in my heart. But its time for a real competitor in our gaming group. Thx again for your reply.
Now i have to build up the game (order more pieces of units and so on) ;-) I cant wait to see the map. I hope it gets soon delivered too my home country (im from Germany). I hope covid doesnt hurt the deliverey times too much.

We only had one game. But we like it. We will play it again. Its a good system. If you play this you have to free your mind from Axis and Allies its a different game. But its really really cool.
Hi i play A&A over 10 years. Espically the G 40 version. Our playgroup plays only Global 40. I bought the second edition of Gobal war 1939 for our playgroup. Well the map is really good, but the game balance is sorry that i have to say this reallly reallly bad. You cant win as allies if the axis does evereything right… Well i know in A&A Global 40 the axis has an advantage but i think the game has pretty good balance (we play only low luck btw and the allies can be beaten). Also there is a bidding system for it. I think it is much better than in Global war 1939. So this leads to my question:
How is the game Balance in Global War 1936?
I would invest much money to get the base game with all unit types and so on and a printed manual in colours. But only if the game balance is good… Pls tell me your impressions.

so here is my Report: Well I won both games :-D.
1 game: They attacked the seazone of Hawai. I did your counterattack and they immideatley surrendered (Japan has no chance when half of their fleet is destroyed).
2 game: Japan played more defensive. Germany went for a sealion in round 4. I made Germany cost this attack so much that they never really could get back to old strength. The USA went full atlantic and shiped everey round 5 infantry and tanks (about 10units). We didnt finish that game but the axis players surrendered because they saw that they couldnt hold the waves anymore. Also russia was far from beeing captured (Japan was in russian territory but alone no thread for russia). Thx for your help. We play next time at christmas (this time i will play the axis).

By the way they really like to combine this japanese attack with sealion. I always buy mainly inf for Uk the first two rounds perhaps one fighter…. Again many thx for your help. thx for your answers. I will try your strategy and attack the japanese fleet. I just have one more question should i go for Kill Japan first in this Scenario. Or should i invest my money in the Atlantic? The upcoming rounds?
Ok they wipe out the complete American fleet at Hawaii. They are there with 2 Carriers fully loaded with fighters. One battleship, one submarine, 2 destoyes, 1 cruiser and one Transport.
Ohh they only loose planes which Japan can totally afford because they move their planes from Japan and other isles or the other carrier in tactical movement to refill the carriesrs at hawaii.
An american atttack on this flleet is suicide and gives america nothing even if they can sink some ships there is nothing left from the USA which is a Desaster for them in the pacific, because it takes to much time to rebuild the fleet.
Also I thin they conquer Hawaii first turn (but definetly 2nd turn) but im not sure because its 3 months ago….
To kill the Navy of Japan is the definition of Kill Japan first. Can someone pls give me detailed answers how i react to an attack from japan first round in the seazone of Hawaii. Also its not easy to kill Japans navy when they buy ships which they easily can. Especially when they do a turn 1 attack in the swazone of Hawaii……

I Play A&A for over fifteen yeras now. My playgroup only plays Global 40 second Edition since it wa released because ist the best A&A ever (we only play with lowluck rules and no bidding).
I have an upcoming game next weekend. I will play the allies (i play them alone so i have the full control). I have a huge problem.
The Axis always attacks the USA on turn 1 in hawai and the philipines. My question is do ich have to react with kill Japan first or should i buy for the Atlantic. The other problem is sometimes they combine it with sea Lion. So i have do buy defensive with England which Wngalnd inefficient (mainly inf first and second round).
Last time i tried Grasshopers spain beachhead strat. It didnt work because Japan got too big and totally out of control. And Germany could hold their homelands and italy long enough. Can someone help me how to react when Japan does a first round attack in the seazone at hawai.
Also i need advise how should i play kill Japan first, because if the japanese player is smart he plays very defensive and he can do also a land offensive (its possible even if you play kill Japan fisrt).
Any suggestions?

Japan has three 3 transports at the beginning right?
So they can take phillipines easy without any air Support. They buy 1or 2 transports in turn 1 so they can invade hawai on turn 2.
ahh yes and the Bombers and one small battleship attack the UK battleship……

They dont use the bombers for the phillipines. I will look at the full board what their turn was. But there are 3 carriers definetly at hawai.
@ Kreuzfeld. You are totally right but the problem is if i do this buys for UK they can do nothing for many rounds in Europe. Italy gets very strong in the med. The USA have to fight Japan. The allies in Europe are getting a problem because UK is isolatet because of only inf buy and USA has to Focus on Japan (but you are right i have to do this buy for UK).

Wel in the last game they didnt atack the battleship from UK (i know this is worth 20 IPC but thats another question for the later turns). They used the japanese bombers to help at the phillipines.
Japans only strategy is to get the USA in a full pacific war.
Meanwhile in Europe: The UK is conqured (if they dont buy defensive) or issolatet because of two turn inf buys. Nearly no us troops to help in Europe (because of heavy J1 attack from Japan)! Italy is getting very strong in the med because UK cant support the med (again inf buys)!
Ahh and buy the way if Germany sees that the UK buys only inf on turn 1. Germany will Focus on other things but they buy ships and more aircraft to isolate UK from Europe (remember in turn 2 they build an airport in the normandy…). Also they sink the ships at Gibraltar with their fleeet…
My question is can i focus in turn 1 only on the atlantic with the USA and what should i purchase and does the USA get the extra income to spend on turn 1 in the unit purchase phase or at the end in their income phase if they are attacked in turn 1?

thx for your reply. Why should i land fighters in hawai. If Japan crushes them anyway with coastel bombardment and so on in turn ? I mean yes the us has more money at the beginning but this would be a waste of resources… (Japan has enough planes).
Your other ideas are good.
UK in the West: I dont do the taranto raid with UK. I always put my ships to Gibraltar and i only destroy the destroyer and the Transport from italy so my fleet can move through. I have a problem to move the fighters out of UK in turn 2 because Germany can also do a Sealion on turn 2 (Germany purchases 2 Bombers and a submarine in turn 1).
But i think its important that the USA has to place their first build in turn 1 complete in the Atlantic. Thx for the advise.
I have a little rule question which is not clearly descriped in the manual (as so often…):
Can you tell me if the USA gets the extra money when they are attacked imidiatley on turn 1 from Japan at the start of their us turn to buy extra Units or do you get it in your collect income Phase (i mean when you can buy units on turn 1 or do they get the extra Money in their income Phase on turn 1)?
