US only put down 2 surface warships. next attack s/b hawaiian sea zone. even if he puts every penny there, i think i have something like 92% win percent w/ 14 units left. Japan is light on ground troops, so i was thinking full advance to midway next turn.

so, germany rolled very badly yet again, and was forced by necessity to go for the throat.

@Paul-Thomas its lost to the sands of time. we always lose it, so now we don’t bother to put it on the board!

Is UKPac at risk of breaking out? Will you be able to actually take it with those tanks?
No. I plan to take out burma with artillery and infantry, and then bring 9 tanks, 1 infantry, and 1 artillary the following turn. that stack should be sufficient to win a counter attack. I plan to keep dropping2-4 infantry a turn from japan to korea and keep walking them around mongolia, and in 2 turns trigger the snow monkeys. i’m going bare minimum right now on calcutta in order to move the bulk of my navy towards sz6. I’m waiting to see if someone can change my mind on south africa, but i think putting the squeeze on the US is more important. I’m not sure i’m ready to give up the production on the naval base yet…

@weddingsinger the hawaiian sz has 3 ACCS, 5 fighters, 1 TB, 4DDs, 1 sub, 2 cruisers, 1BS. there are 3 fighters scramble ready on honolulu!

@weddingsinger I particularly like ‘go kill ANZAC in peace and quiet’.

Japan goes to south africa. Worth it?
So, as you can see, the germans are under pressure. I’m only japan this game, and told my teammate i was going to let him just roll with the germans and see what happens. The germans have had pretty bad dice this game, and the japs have been nickled and dimed on ground units, but, with my clear gobs of navy, is it worth to send an expeditionary force with 2 troops and some ships to SZ72? this would threaten south africa and other UK territory? i was considering an all out navy rampage and knocking out ANZAC and UK fleets, and posturing in SZ6 to begin the pressure the US. 6 tanks a turn are now going to calcutta, and we’ve whittled them down fairly well, so i feel in a couple turns i should be able to knock them out. So, is it worth to divert to africa, or just pound the pacific into dust? I intend to have 4 full ACCs, at least 5 subs, at least 6 destroyers, and a battleship in SZ6 at the end of my next move (it is currently the USSSRs turn). thats a little more than half the navy.

RE: Another attempt at an Allied playbook.
@AldoRaine said in Another attempt at an Allied playbook.:
Experience has EMPHATICALLY shown that the most efficient use of units for UK turn 1 involves purchasing an air base for Gibraltar and moving any navy that can reach to sea zone 92 while leaving at least 2 fighters in Gibraltar
the air base seems like a big spend on T1 w/ the UK… seems like you give the germans a real chance to take London???

RE: What are your comfortable game lengths?
@yanksaldaway i just try to convince everyone to plan ahead. I have a massive chalkboard in my basement, and the day after we play i right down my next turn buys with all my teams, project combat and income, and plan the following turns purchases. It doesn’t always come to fruition, but it usually gives me the bones i need to keep moving quickly!
-
RE: What are your comfortable game lengths?
so i’ve been playing with the same person for over 3 years, and over the last year we added 1 player, and our games take months, playing a few hours on saturday nights. If i’m the allies the games go faster because i play fairly quickly. My opponents try to calculate so many possibilities it bogs the game down, but we enjoy each others company, so we just keep going!

RE: Complex repair
Maybe my question wasn’t worded right, my opponent thinks that I need to pay for ALL repairs at once before I can use a facility. I said that if I wanted to place only one unit on my mc that I could repair 3 of the 5 damage at repair step and then place 1 unit in the MC at place units phase. He feels the rules are clear that all damage must be repaired, I 100% disagree.

Complex repair
Do we need to repair every damage point to use a complex, or can it be one unit at a time. Example my minor complex has 5 damage, can I pay 3 ipcs and still mobilize 1 unit?

RE: What are the pros and cons of no DOW on US by Japan
@simon33 yep! that was about it, was just trying to note sometimes you have to buy some time for your friends!

RE: What are the pros and cons of no DOW on US by Japan
@simon33 if i don’t DOW on J2, i typically do it J3, but, even if i don’t do it J3, the US is restricted on movement through T3 as the declaration of war does not occur until collect income phase. so, if my german ally took some bad dice in europe, i can effectively buy him 4 turns of no US intervention, and i just try to look menacing in the pacific. :pouting_cat: (thats my best menacing)

RE: How many G40 games have you played?
Over 20 games over the last 3 years or so

RE: What are the pros and cons of no DOW on US by Japan
I’m playing a game right now where i am japan, my teammate is setup for Moscow T5 win w/ 78% chance of victory.I opted to not make DOW with the Japanese to force the US to stay at its borders for an extra turn, and its proving beneficial. We had some really bad rolling in the Atlantic and Mediterranean on T1 (causing us to lose a lot for not much return). It appears to have allowed the Germans the ability to get to Moscow while running lean on the Atlantic wall. All that to say, i like J2 DOW, but sometimes situations arise for you to stall to help ze germans!

RE: [House Rules] The 20 IPC Question....
if cruisers can carry infantry, the japanese will be lighting striking all over the spice!
-
RE: Is China keeping Yunnan J1 a big deal?
Yunnan usually means 6 extra IPCs for china + the ability to purchase artillery, which can spell trouble for japan. any slowing down of japan in the opening turns is great for the allies.

RE: [House Rules] The 20 IPC Question....
Battle ship or 1DD/2subs unless i have some amphibious assaults coming. That’s about the only reason i get cruisers is when i’m ready to take out coastal territory.
