@oysteilo so its just a conservative move to try to ensure that, even though italy may start to break out quicker, the pressure is on the germans right out of the gate. And this assumes a 3 plane scamble in 110 by the UK on G1?

RE: Why is Taranto raid so popular?
@JDOW lets say the gerrys land a couple planes in Rome, at least threatening a full 3 plane scramble against Taranto, are you saying that anything short of 90% is a no go for the UK? I’m just trying to get an idea for how you play the game!

RE: Why is Taranto raid so popular?
Does anyone have a count of what the typical SZ92 stack count consists of at the EoT1 if you don’t do Taranto?

RE: Aaron vs His Friends again
I’m slow rolling this game to let my opponents build up.As it stands, it is the start of ANZAC T2. Germany sits w/ 49 IPCS, Japan @ 43, and Italy at 24.
Italy plans to buy an ACC and TT on its turn to have a real navy. We cracked back agains the leftovers of Taranto with much success, and as UK is going w/ a persia complex, i think i can get the italian income up a bit before the US does its thing. Japan built a NB on kwangsi, and will continue building more ships while shucking 6 units a turn to southeast asia. with 43 IPCs, i’m looking at 5inf, 1 art, 1ACC and 1DD. Germany with 49 will most likely get 7 infantry, 1 art, and either 6 half tracks or 3 half tracks and a SB. the other possibility woulb be 9 inf, 1 art, 3 half tracks and a sub. I do have 4 SBs currently, but wouldn’t mind a fifth. 2 TTs in the baltic are allowing me to keep troops rolling to finland in the hopes of a T5 leningrad crush. I’m trying to win but still giving them a chance. any opinions of which of the 3 germany/japan buys sound the most fun? T4 will most likely be an all out japan DOW and germany may or may not declare war on the USSR. not sure if i will stew another turn for the 5 IPC bonus!

RE: Why is Taranto raid so popular?
@Caesar-Seriona
but even if the axis scramble 3 planes, it should still be something like 60/40 UKs favor?? and you likely snag 2 italian fighters if they scramble?? do you just think that is too close? -
RE: [Global 1940] First round no combat. Theory to alternate bid
@Caesar-Seriona I remember in A&A second edition, no russia attack was a great equilizer for that game, but this seems back breaking for the Axis. its interesting that Paris gives the germans such a great 2nd turn, but not taking it tilts the game heavily. I would still be interested in seeing some results on a no attack on T1.
-
RE: Russia attacking a neutral pro axis nation
@Caesar-Seriona really? i guess they send a man to germany, T1, load him on the german TT on T2, hope the germans can be in the finland sz on T3 to unload, just to have troops that can’t really get any offense?? and the germans miss out on 6 ipcs by not taking it T1. i’m puzzled as to how this works in a strat?

RE: Why is Taranto raid so popular?
@Wizard you can get the SB from the UK in the fight, and several planes and ships on SZ97, even if the italians and germans coordinate to get a full 3 plane scramble, it is still something like 55/45 UK win and you wipe out all those planes. Italy doesn’t have the ability to replace the battleship, and the cruiser likely won’t be replaced either. You severely hamper italy’s ability to branch out and get its income up, and if they can’t get the UK navy out of SZ 97 by the end of their turn, then all those ships get to roll convoy dice as well.

Aaron vs His Friends again
Just started, ANZANC to go on T1. 31 IPC bid to the Allies. 1 Destroyer in 110, 1 in 112, 5 men in various parts of Africa. I rolled very poorly in Paris, but otherwise, i’ve done alright. T2 will be naval base on kwangsi by the japs, and with the german 68 i will probably go 1 SB, 12 inf, 5 half tracks. This stacks Normandy, Paris, West Germany, and gives me troops to shuttle to Norway. the 5 half tracks will head to the front. I feel my 2 tanks leftover in paris (the math was 95% with 7.5 units remaining) leads to a shortfall at moscow. the upside is all the UK fighers and French fighter that started on england and scotland got knocked out. 12 infantry is not very aggressive, but i like to stock up on germany T2.
may not do DOW w/ Japan until T3 too keep the US off of europe.

RE: Japan goes to south africa. Worth it?
well, after an eventful few turns, japan captured western australia and the northern territory, bombed out the minor factory in new south wales, convoyed ANZAC to 3 IPCs a turn, and established 6 ground units, 7 planes, 2 bombardments a turn hitting the continent every turn, the Allies concede. Next game is myself as japan, an ally as Germany/Italy, against our friend controlling all the Allies and getting a 25 IPC bid. Time to see what happens! thanks everybody!

RE: Japan goes to south africa. Worth it?
@Juno we were waiting for him our opponent to beachhead in greece, and he just didn’t for quite awhile, and when he did, we were ready for it as his lack of pressure allowed italy to buy planes (we are up to 4!). Which is why we’ve been able to wander up to west germany with a stack of italians! My europe teammate hasn’t really played any long games like this one, and he finally understands why i start the game shuffling a couple infantry every turn to Denmark even when it isn’t threatened. its nice to have a massive stack of infantry with some planes and AAA guns to fend off a combined attack. It looks like japan isn’t in danger of losing its 90+IPCs a turn for quite awhile.

RE: Japan goes to south africa. Worth it?
@weddingsinger that would be a great deal, but it seems like a long trip to get to that SZ…

RE: Japan goes to south africa. Worth it?
@Juno i should have noted that the iceland patrol is actually in 110, we just ran out of space. i have a 99 percent chance of victory over the US pac fleet w/ average of 13.5 units remaining, but he isn’t really adding to it, so i’m trying to get to where i don’t have to sac a bunch of planes and carriers to take it out as hawaii is heavily defended. i’m starting to feel like i have ANZAC so nerfed that tanks towards egypt/moscow maybe be a faster back breaker than the ANZAC slog… Japan is collected 91 IPCs, if i buy 9 tanks a turn and crash into the center of the board, that leaves me w/ 36 or more IPCS a turn to dump into aircraft and navy to overwhelm the US in hawaii, then i can move up and convoy western US. using the japs to just choke the pacific and crush egypt (which has a complex, the cat just got it) or take on moscow is so tempting… My next buy should put the last ACC i own in the box on the board.

RE: Japan goes to south africa. Worth it?
well, as you can see, we are going for kill the ANZACS in peace and quiet.
Japan pulled in 91 IPCs last turn, and hopefully have the ANZACS down to 3 IPCs a turn. The US did not add any navy to the hawaiian sea zone, i added 2 destroyers, 1 sub, 1 Fighter, and 1 TB. Hoping the jap armour divisions begin to pressure the factory in egypt and my european teammate can push back the allies! -
RE: German airbase in Holland r1
@barnee said in German airbase in Holland r1:
As far as saving the BB, a lot of people will use it to strafe SZ 111 and retreat it to 112.
Does saving the BB cost too many planes? Is it an effective long end strat? is it only if you buy an ACC on G1?

RE: Factories and Facilties—Where, How, When, and Why?
@Charles-de-Gaulle said in Factories and Facilties—Where, How, When, and Why?:
Does anyone ever consider upgrading the minor IC on Rome to a major? I usually find that it is not necessary until late in the game, and by that time I don’t want to do it or lack the IPCs.
Nope. I can’t ever fill the 13 units the the Mic and the mic allow, and its too much wasted income the I ties need elsewhere. if italy needs to produce more than 13 units, i feel the game should be over…
-
RE: Factories and Facilties—Where, How, When, and Why?
@AxisAndAllies1940 i don’t believe i have ever thought of the egyptian ANZAC patrol scooping up persia for a factory…
-
RE: Japan goes to south africa. Worth it?
@Juno its why we leave it in the hands of soviets… it gives them income (they have norway and finland for 11IPCs a turn) but it keeps 6 US tanks a turn from pummelling my teammate!
-
RE: Japan goes to south africa. Worth it?
well, i got my friends to push through 2 japanese turns… germany is pulling back, but are getting close to being able to push back again, and japan has open field running to the middle east and is throttling ANZAC. looking good for the Axis!

RE: Japan goes to south africa. Worth it?
@simon33 so, my plan was to send a TT, 2 troops, 2 cruisers, destroyer, and ACC w/ TB+F. my thought was that the UK could build 3 units, and i could hit it w/ 2 planes, 2 troops, and 2 bombardments, but germany is looking grim, so i’m just going to step up to blast hawaii. I’m pretty sure i’ve got calcutta in 2 turns, 3 at the latest.
