      Hello again!

      After a very long time away from Axis and Allies I have started to get back into the game. The last time I played Alpha + 2 was out and I am still on my first edition games for 1940. I had considered replacing them, though after looking at the pricing again, decided not to. Given that I can play the second edition games with my FE with some new setup charts I figured it was a bit of waste of money. Sure there are fancy new AAA gun molds and a couple minor tweaks to the map but not a big deal for me.

      I updated the charts I had made previously to reflect the new SE setups. Rather than define them as 1940 SE I just called them 1940 since that is the new base setup for the game. I created charts including an IPC tracker, NOs, Setup Charts, Game Aids and a Battle Board. They can be printed and affixed to some foam board which is what I do to give them a bit more stability. I created the same charts for the base Europe and Pacific games. The setup charts probably won’t help many people but for me I adjust the sizing to fit right on top of my FE boxes so for anyone in my position it will be an easy swap.

      Rather than make 3 threads for the same thing I have all the links posted below. Download what you think you might need/use.

      Just thought I would post this in case anyone might be interested in the future.  After adding the required pieces to change my first edition 1940 games to second edition (including replacing ANZAC/Italy completely) it worked out to be only $25 cheaper than the best price I found on purchasing the 2nd editions new.

      Of course if you just got the AA guns and left the rest the same, it would be much cheaper.

      It was felt that two free infantry when at war didn’t do enough to make up for the loss of Soviet Pacific income in the Alpha environment.  This may change with further testing, however.

      I started working on a rule change aid since I’ve had some requests from a bunch of people on it.  I wanted to post my wording for you guys to confirm accuracy before posting the chart.  I’m trying to keep it all to one page which is proving difficult.

      Note:  I did not add the IPC shift for UK, nor the reduction in AA gun cost as that is reflected in the Game Aid already completed.  The text will be as follows:

      1.)  AA Guns are removed from play if a territory is captured.
      2.)  Major Industrial Complexes are reduced to Minor Complexes upon capture.  Only the ORIGINAL owner may upgrade it back to a Major if the
            territory is liberated.  Major IC’s cannot be built on foreign territories. 
      3.)  The Soviet Unions Neutrality is not effected on opposing maps when only at war with European, or Pacific Axis powers.
      4.)  Scramble Rules have been changed to the following:
                    1.)  Takes place at the START of the Conduct Combat Phase for powers AT WAR ONLY.
                2.)  If there is an active Air Base a total of 3 Fighters and/or Tac Bombers  located on an island or coastal territory may scrambled to the adjacent
                          Sea Zone.  Rare Sea Zone cases that are adjacent to multiple active Air Bases can scramble 3 planes per Air Base.
                    3.)  Can help friendly naval units under attack or to resist an Amphibious Assault even if the Amp. Assault is on a different territory. 
      5.)  Victory Conditions are as follows:  AXIS - 6 of 8 Victory Cities on Pacific Map OR 8 of 11 Victory Cities on the Europe Map
                                                          ALLIES - Control of ALL Axis Capital Cities
      6.)  Unites States’ Minor Industrial Complexes are upgraded to Major when the US is at War.  These IC’s can be upgraded for the 20 IPC’s while Neutral.
      7.)  Strategic Bombing Raids now follow the following order of Combat.  (Note:  Strat Bombers can attack IC’s, Air or Naval Bases.  Tac Bombers can
            attack Air or Naval Bases):
                      1.)  Any Escorts (Fighters) attack at 1 against any enemy Interceptors (Fighters).  Casualties are removed IMMEDIATELY.
                      2.)  Strat and/or Tac Bombers attack at 1 against any enemy Interceptors.  Casualties can defend.
                      3.)  Interceptors attack at 2 against attacker Bombers.  Escorts may only be taken after ALL Bombers have been destroyed.
                      4.)  Surviving Bombers declare which facility is to be targeted.
                5.)  Facility AA Gun Defense hits on 1.  Roll one die for each Bomber attack the facility.
                      6.)  Bombers attack.  Strat Bombers add +2 to the dice rolled.  Tac Bombers hit on dice rolled.  Damage removal is on a 1:1 ratio.
      8.)  The United States may declare war on the Axis if London and/or any North American Territory is captured.
      9.)  Subs no longer can fire a ‘sneak attack’ at unescorted Transports.  Transports cannot unload from a Sea Zone with an enemy Sub unless a friendly
            warship was also present during Combat Movement.
      10.)  The United States Navy, while Neutral may only occupy Sea Zones adjacent to their territories, excluding Sea Zone 102 (No transports) on the
              Europe Map.  On the Pacific Map the Navy may not end movement in Sea Zones adjacent to Japanese controlled territories.
      11.)  Kamikaze Strikes can be used in any of the marked Sea Zones where an Allied player conducts Sea Combat or an Amphibious Assault is to take place.

      First things first, watch the economics,  as long as you are making MORE money, you are in charge,  and can trade piece for piece all day.

      Second thing, remember you only need to NOT LOSE Hawaii and NSW.  Get stacks of ground units into those territories - mixed with planes + an AA and hold.

      Third,  as often as possible build Transports and Men.  Take islands, forcing Japan to take them back, even if it costs you the tran to steal the territory in the first place.  Again, try to watch the economics here.

      What this all does - is dilute’s Japan’s ability to focus it’s economics on one specific target.  If Japan can’t focus and take it’s objectives, it can’t win.  If you slowly start to swing the economic balance in your favour - 1 island at a time, eventually Japan will run out of gas - and because they lose - you win.

      It’s all a widdling factor.  Widdle widdle widdle till you win

      In reading the new rules it seems that Japs cannot build IC’s on the Mainland except for Korea, is that so?

      They can build minor ICs.

      Yeah I’m going to have to keep reminding myself that minors can be built anywhere… I have it stuck in my head that no ICs can be built on foreign territories.

      Got pretty lucky on dice for China.  They are down to 5 Inf co-defending with 3 UK Inf and 2 UK Tanks on the last hold before an easy march to India.  Plan is to hit India on an amphip assault next turn.  Should be possible if the dice go my way.

      NO’s aren’t collected before the game; otherwise, UK Europe would start with 34 ipcs, not 29.

      UK is splt because is Empire was stretched around the globe. Money from Canada and UK and Africa more easily reach UK than India. On the other hand, the US in contingent and well connected by railways
