    @Frontovik:

like always, i blame the british, spanish and Belgians (myself)
we had the big colonies, which sucked out the economys of spanish america, Congo and india

I must say you lost me on that post. Could you please elaborate?

Many of these impoverished nations were under colonial rule for some time, which basically was raiding the land and people for wealth and resources.  Haiti being one of them.

  • @gamerman01:

Yep, and the same thing would have happened to America had they not won their war of independence.  America was doomed to be an over-taxed and plundered colony if she didn’t win a major war against occupying, colonial Britain (with no small amount of help from France, who was a rival of Great Britain).

Well, it still did.  Just ask the remaining American Indians.  At least they got blankets, alcohol, and casinos.  :|

Not a bad deal. It could have been a lot worse.

  • I am guilty of forgetting the natives, yes.

Natives just didn’t do too well from like, what, 1200-2010?

Not saying it’s right, just saying that’s the way it’s gone in all of human history.

I’m probably over-simplifying, but after WWII it seems the world’s powers decided that Imperialism was no longer allowed.  Seems hypocritical.  I’m a true-blue American and I love our country, but seems kind of convenient that once you’ve taken over the continent (with vastly superior technology, just like the Europeans liked to do it) and some other islands and you have all of your natural resource and space needs met, that it’s a good time to change the rules on everyone else….

Ah, human nature.  I mean, what else do you expect?

  • But when other nations experience horrible natural disasters, it is a great opportunity for people all over the world to show that they can rise above human nature and help out their fellow man, because there is a great need.

What a pile of utter horse shit.

Australia and Canada seem to throw that rather absurd and frankly hysterical little hypothesis out of the window. Neither these two countries were ‘plundered’ to the point of becoming third world countries, and it’s laughable to suggest that the United States would have become a Third World country if it hadn’t of shaken off the shackles of British rule.

  • I guess the natives didn’t budget enough money for national defense. They won’t do that again.

  • @Brain:

I guess the naatives didn’t budget enough money for national defense. They won’t do that again.

Perhaps in future the natives will invest in more tech rolls and spend their IC more wisely next time

They should also be leary of diplomatic agreements with Europeans.

  • Good thing he didn’t say anything bad about the french colonial influence on Haiti.

    Whew. Close call.

Whatever.  You don’t have a crystal ball either, so how do you know?
Like the other guys said, the US was plundered.  The Indians are gone.

  • forget I said anything. thanks.

  • This thread has gone from talking about a disaster to politics. What a disaster! Oh it looks like we have come full circle.

  • OK, I didn’t think it through and it was a stupid post.

Thanks for pointing that out - it’s removed now.

You could stand to learn about something called “tact”, Starke.  Unless, of course, you enjoy difficult relations with people.

You can’t talk much about a disaster in Haiti without getting political, really.
It would be like talking about the human condition without talking about God.  Oh wait, a lot of people do that.

There, I added “religion” into it too, for good measure.

  • Whatever.

[Edited for being a bait - GG].

You don’t have a crystal ball either, so how do you know?

How do I know? Because there’s no historical evidence to suggest anything that you’ve proposed could have happened, thus your little theory amounts to nothing more than mere uneducated guesswork. There is no historical trend to suggest that the United States today would be a Third World country if it had not of won it’s war of independence.

I don’t need a crystal ball to see that, there’s enough sources and EVIDENCE to counteract such a farcical take on the course of history.

Under your [Edited for being a bait - GG] theory one may quite seriously suggest that Germany is currently planning to start World War III, and has been slowly building up it’s military strength since Unification after the collapse of the Berlin Wall, as revenge for the loss of WWII: HOW CAN YOU TELL ME THAT’S NOT TRUE? DO YOU HAVE A CRYSTAL BALL?

Like the other guys said, the US was plundered.  The Indians are gone.

There was no US in existence at the time, so the US couldn’t have possibly been plundered.

Guys this isn’t a political thread. Could we keep the politics out? Thanks…

  • You’re right, GG.

    Sorry I got someone going - I’m out.  8-)

You apparently didn’t see this post, Starke???
I said, I didn’t really think it through, and it was a stupid post.  How often do you see someone admit that?

Why are you piling on?  Looks like you got edited twice in one post for baits!
