• What do you guys think?  I have been really looking forward to this one, the trailers look great.  The one thing I do think is stupid though is they are sticking with the whole “a robot comes back from the future” concept which I think is getting old.  It is the future, the war happened, now tell the damn story!

  • yes it looks great

  • My initial perusal of the reviews is this isn’t that great except for the action sequences. One guy called it a war movie as opposed to a Terminator movie.

I don’t suppose it can be much worse than the travesty that is JJ’s Trek so I’ll probably catch it. I also like me some CGI robots and typically enjoy Bale and since my opinion of McG has nowhere to go but up…

That the reviews feel much more split and than the gushing on Trek helps. I don’t feel like I’ll be coming out of a different movie than I was sold.

  • Im glad its a war movie! w/o Arnold you need something to cover up the no name actors.

  • Christian Bale is no name?  News to me…

It looks pretty good.  I may see it.  I just don’t get out to movies very often.  I like watching them at home even better.

  • Its really good actually.

  • Look’s like it will be pretty good. The futuristic war scenario is one I have always liked. Some of the previews look quite amazing for the special effects and filming.
Imagine a version of A&A that is based upon a Terminator type of story, with the machines against the humans. It opens up a whole new world of posibilities and weapons. 8-)

  • I caught this last night and from the reviews I was expecting a serious crap fest and once again this summer I’m not sure these reviewers saw the same movie I saw.

While the film is not without plot holes for the most part unlike JJ Trek they didn’t keep taking me out of the story and at least while watching the movie didn’t feel particularly contrived. Certainly some questionable decisions though.

The film is a little dreary but largely depending on your attachment to Terminator I think most will find it doesn’t blow. Some very nice action sequences and one of them early on was really nice in a “Wow how’d they do that way.”

Mostly it seemed they couldn’t decide what story they wanted to tell or were too worried about setting up a sequel. But the action and actors hold the film together well enough plus there is a nice little nod to the past.

Final verdict is I’m not willing to say it is ‘good’ but it certainly doesn’t suck.

    Perspective,
L.A. Confidential, Rear Window, classics– Great
Casino Royale, Last Samurai, Saving Private Ryan, Lethal Weapon, Dark Knight,  Goldfinger, From Russia with Love – Good stuff
Transporter flicks, Die Hard (all), Lethal Weapon Sequels, Iron Man, Spider Man, Goldeneye – I really liked them
Punisher War Zone, Star Wars Prequels, Pirates of Carib 1,  For Your Eyes Only-- Okay
Wolverine, X-Men 3, Terminator 3, Transformers, Tommorow Never Dies – not willing to say it was good, not willing to say it didn’t suck
Pirates of Carib 2, Matrix Sequels, Die Another Day, JJ Trek – Crap

    Well said.

I enjoyed the movie. It’s a good watch.

Honestly, with Sarah Chronicle Files going, I am a bit hesitant to watch this one, at least at the cost of $15.50 per ticket for the big screen.

And Frimmel, what movie reviewer ever sees the same movie we do?  Honestly, I think most of the reviewers out there come from another dimension or something, because they sure don’t seem to have taste in movies like human beings from planet earth do! heh.

    Supposedly Chronicles has been canceled…

And wow, $15.50?!?  I think non-matinee tickets are around $8 here.

  • I saw it yesterday, the machines are way too week. In the first terminator the humans were living underground and starving and how the hell do they have A10s and heuys those would been the first things the machines would have taken out.

everything is a cliche and the scene with the semi-truck is beeing chased down the highway is exactly the same scene from The Road Warrior except now their are robots. I saw Road Warrior just last weekend, their is no difference.

It was a joke. Instead of having cool weapons like EMP’s bombs and stuff that works against machines they defeat the machines with stuff we use against Iraqi’s. The humans are way to organized. They fight like marines when they should be fighting like insurgents.

I was disappointed with the TV Terminator getting cancelled. It started out a bit rough first season but was really starting to pick up and figure out what story they wanted to tell, to find their voice. They were finally letting John Connor grow a pair.

As to movie reviewers it isn’t so much their taste but they for the most part give me an idea of what I’m going to see when I watch the movie and if you read the same reviewer frequently you get a good gauge of how their opinions relate to yours. With JJ Trek and Terminator it is the first time since Superman Returns and Pirates II that I’ve gotten that ‘what the heck did they watch’ vibe.

I don’t expect them to like it but I expect them to objectivly inform me of what the film is about.

While Taiki is correct, I didn’t find that stuff particularly distracting but a couple of reviews had me thinking Helena Bonham Carter, *spoiler the good/bad Terminator actor and Bale were just stinking the place up as opposed to doing great work with some weak script and direction.

this is just the beginning of the resistance remember.  john connor just now got his scar you see in terminator 2.  reese is still just a young boy.  things will get worse for the human resistance.  they’ll run out of fuel and parts for those A10’s soon enough.

in the first terminator the humans use new energy weapons and lasers.  reese says to sarah connor that he’s not sure if he can defeat the terminator “with these weapons”(weapons of the 80’s)

in the battle scenes in terminator 2 they are still using energy weapons.  but things are going badly for the resistance.  you can tell b/c john connors HQ is under direct frontal assault by the machines.  not a good spot to be in.  in this movie, we get to see those huge tracked machines.  (in terminator salvation, we see huge biped machines, that ride on carriers)

so the story line of the resistance is that terminator salvation takes place first, then terminator 1, then terminator 2.(by battle flashforwards/or backs depending how you look at it)

so long story short, they have A10’s and hueys b/c the resistance still has some left early on

an aside……marcus is the best part of the movie.  true story…the role of john connor was supposed to be just under 1/4 of the film.  it was supposed to center on marcus aka the name of the movie.  but christian bale flipped out big time and demanded to be made lead.

    this is from the set…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTihsJQHt48

thats probably why the movie sucked so much.

So right, how come M16’s dont work on terminators in 1 and 2 but in salvation they are just as good as a laser.

well, in the new movie, we only see the m-16 stop one machine.  thats john connor shooting the machine that the helicopter already crushed in the head.  in the 2nd movie, arnold tells john where the chip is in his head.  in the new movie thats precisely where he shoots it.  he got the chip.

  • My favorite terminator movie is the first one.
