What is Going On with the Site

I suspect it’s increased traffic over loading the server.  Basic Denial of Service error.

But that’s just my suspicion based on what Djensen’s previously said about increased traffic with the release of the new game and all that.

I just run a program that notifies me as soon as it’s able to ping the site again.

It’s been a real pain today, but I have noticed it a lot more recently.

Maybe all that pinging is what’s bringing down the server. :-o

Nah, I seriously doubt sending one bit to the site and getting one bit back is over loading anything.  I’d wager its the number of unregistered users searching for answers to Anniversary Edition and possibly the banners.

That’s my guess.  Every time I try to use the search feature here, the site goes unresponsive and I end up never getting the results of the search.

The website has been unresponsive for a while.  Just now getting access back but it is sporadic.

It’s not the banners. It has something to do with the way the server is set up in combination with the horsepower on the server.

In order to get this working much better I need to redeploy the server on a more recent operating system. This is a lot of work and will require downtime.

I don’t know if this matters or not, but my browser will continue to show an icon (like the little hour glass used by Windows OS’s) that it is still trying to download a page even when the entire page appears to be loaded. This will go on until I click on the “stop” button on the browser menu bar.

Now that is related to the ads or Google analytics or something like that.

I’ve started building a new server. I might be able to do the switch tonight, which means you will not have access to the forums tonight or whenever I do the switch over.

Could you do it Sunday when most people have gotten their weekend fix?

I made the upgrades that I wanted to make. Now we just need to see if it made things faster.

I now get a “404 - Attachment Not Found” whenever I try to click one of the attachments to download a map.  Did we perhaps lose all the attachments in the upgrade process?

Fixed. There might be one or two stragglers so just re-upload the files.

How is the site running so far today?

It seems pretty snappy now. It should be. All of the code that runs the forum and the content is now cached after compilation. Previously, it was compiling every time.

I get a 404 Not Found when trying to do a search.

I’m not seeing that. From where are you doing the search? Send the URL, please.
