The Cyber Security Enhancement Act

  • This makes me sick.

This act was originally going to be passed as an independant act back last summer. However, other matters delayed the passing of the act. Now, the act is included in the Homeland Security bill.

Basically, heres the bad part of the act (there are some Anti-Childporn and other good changes in the act).

Previous, to get access to a person’s electronic documents via a person’s ISP, you had to either (a) Display a Search Warrant or (b) Show emminent danger. An ISP, much like a Patient-Doctor agreement, could not give away this information otherwise.

If this is passed, which is likely, the situation changes drastically. First, ISPs can freely give away any information of it’s users (E-Mail, Internet History Records, ect), at the request of any (ANY!) Government employee. This stretches from the lowest Government employee to the President. Yes, according to the bill, a Mailman can access your email on request. No warrant required.

This is an absurd upset of my constitutional rights. If this is passed, privacy on the internet will be nulled. Read more about it here:

Americans, you can also find a link on that page to contact your local Congressman directly and tell them your opinion about this intolerable act. This act could be passed in days, send the email today.

I’ll be damned if some mailman’s gonna access ma’ email records!

    Ma’, get the shotgun!

LOL, it’s way to late to be on the computer…10:39 PM. :P

  • Heres another example (more realistic):

Your High School teacher may suspect you of foul play, or want to read your internet files. He/She can go to your isp, and request them to release this information to him/her. The isp then can legally give away any information he/she wants. This applies for ANY Government employee.

  • dam if Mr Note knew the sites i go to hed send me to the Princibals again lol

First, I just want to say that I’m glad I go to a private school. Last time I checked, the Christian Brothers aren’t a governement agency…

Furthermore, I suggest everyone here learn how to browse the internet anonymously. Even mask it from your ISP. (Yes, it can be done :P) It’s a little bit of trouble, but might be worth it to those who are frightened of big brother looking over your shoulder. :o

  • However, if you use a non-web based email, there is no way to mask your email.

  • Who are the chief supporters of this bill?

  • omg 1984 big brother lol a guy used that as a comparison last nite on Cross Fire lol

  • me :)

  • Well, this bill is part of the Homeland Security Act. Because of political reasons, there is a 99.9% chance that this act will pass. So, every politician is taking the time to cram into the act his or her own personal agenda. This is on the Agenda of several hard lining Republicans. However, I don’t know the individual names.

  • That reminds me… I might be gone a lot in Feb-May (maybe as early as December or January) because of Civil War Reenactments. :) So long suckers! :P

  • posted that under the wrong topic :)

  • Oopss…

  • This gives us all a chance to catch up to TG in number of posts. I’m sure if we all combined our number of posts together we could pass TG.

  • sadly, i’ll be gone a lot in Feb-April (in Portugal working in an Oporto hospital).
i’ll have to visit when i can i guess :) keep my posting and responsibilities up.
