Great War 1914-18
-
that was pretty quick, thanks alot
why does armor have 2 moves now though, i dont think of wolrd war 1 armor as moving very fast.
i dont think all the units should have the same values as in AA50 i like how artllery is different and infatry is cheaper.
I just thought the way concepets were represented in AA50 and your games should be the same.for instance damage tokens should be used in both games, and subs should be weaker on defence than attack and trasnports dont particpate in combat.
anyways nice drop and i look forward to the rules

Well the rules are not finished. Tanks need to move 2 like Cavalry because the extra space is needed because of the many territories and ability to redeploy from different fronts is needed.
Tanks are tech units and they act to remove the entrenchment bonus for infantry, which makes offensive operations work much better.

well sure, but everythink is moved by rail so why do tanks get the bonus
second thought , since their were so few tanks it would problaby be hard for the enemy to know exactly where your tanks were so i guess it makes sence that you can move them quickly to different sectors of the front.

Rail is also simulated in the rules. Units may move from any space in home nation to another during NCM. Your allies using rail have to stop at border, then move across on turn and continue to rail.

IL do you have Zepplins in your game?
UK tanks only; French? American? or German tanks too?

yes to all depending on when they came historically. Tech is automatic, not researched. So strategies constantly change to employ the best use of them.

How does this game compare to one on the TripleA site?
-
I have no idea because i don’t visit that site. Mine should be completely different unless somebody lifted the ideas. For this i had nothing to go on except a very loose interpretation of IMP games :Great War
-
I looked at your map and it looks nothing like Triple A. Your map is beautiful by the way, but I can’t figure why you have never used the Triple A site.
-
because its not real time. Its not like you can sit and watch players move the units and watch the combat results live.
-
I know this is getting off topic, but if you only like real time games and not turn based games what is your interest in Axis and Allies?
-
I didn’t say RTS, I said real time. I like to watch the turns develop and get the game done in 1 hour. I don’t like playing over a week…too boring. I like to play by instinct and not just sit their 1 hour doing each battle into a statistical slug fest based on home study preparation and volumes of ‘cliff notes’ To me this is ruining the game and removing the social aspect of gaming that AA was intended for. I prefer a group of players pulling together for a common cause because thats what WW2 was about, but rather eggheads sit in armchairs and do nothing but run simulations for hours to maximize every possible outcome to win. This to me is bewilderment that people can take the game like this…especially a game that uses dice to the extent that AA does. I come from a different stock of AA player from the old MB days, where we never played with less than 5 players.
-
Wow, it sounds like you have some built up resentment. I saw a review of Axis and Allies in Games magazine back in 1984 and searched almost daily for the game and picked one up at Toys R Us in January 1985. I used to play with up to 5 players but would become frustrated with my team mates lame strategies. This is why I prefer a 2 player game. In any event I have never played a game that was completed in 1 hour, I think the fastest game I ever played lasted about 2 hours. Playing on the Triple A site is just like playing the board game except you are playing against a computer opponent, and any abuse you might see as statistical over-analysis (analysis paralysis) can happen when playing the board game as well.

We don’t allow that in our games. We use timers or sand timers for moves. The old AA game had a 3-5 minute time limit for the entire turn with time stopped only during combat rolls. This kicked the down time to the curb. Nobody wants to sit for 25 minutes while somebody ‘thinks’. People need to learn to think what they want to do when the other guy is doing his turn, and that is only possible when its in real time.

At one time IMP Games was planning on releasing a Great War boardgame. But the site does not appear to be active. Anyone have any info about the site and/or the status of the boardgame?
I know IL has been active in promoting The Great War games at different sites.
Thanks in advance!

Nothing is being done with that game. Its very sad :|
