I guess by the responses I have read it is unanimous, Italy is better as a seperate entity mainly due to the added possibilities that it creates and the overall strategy changes it allows from both sides.
The other thing I really do like is that with 6 countries it is axis then allies turns rotated so as to not have two allied turns back to back. It is harder to double team that way.
Thank you every one for your thoughts. 8-)
@Panther Well said, thank you. Whether we like certain rules is subjective, so we can agree to disagree. I don’t like that if UK liberates Karelia the turn before Russia falls, the territory is rendered worthless, and the factory inoperable. But if the UK liberates Karelia the turn after Russia falls, they get the value of the territory and a fully functioning factory. I’d like to see control revert to any occupying allied force, upon lost of a capital. Losing a capital would still hurt, but it would make more sense than a territory suddenly becoming worthless and dormant.
But this isn’t a rules clarification, this is a rules wish.
I agree for more than just the financial reasons.
A Pac Strategy is SOOO easy in this game to pull off, even a rookie can do it! (With the Allies.) Japan literally cannot be everywhere with it’s navy at once like it could in Classic and (to a lesser extent) revised. Too many new sea zones let you hide your fleet around. If Japan splits up to protect all avenues of approach (notice that they would have to move into range of your fleet to block you after starting out of range) then you can focus your firepower to destroy their smaller fleet(s).
I more than agree with templeton on the freedom to players idea. I appreciate the game offers a nice historical point of view, but it is the idea of being able to do the “what if” playing that makes it really exciting.
Do fighters with long range aircraft tech receive their plus one movement, for total of two instead of one if their aircraft carriers was sunk in 1940 Global.
I would recommend to ask this question in the 1940 Global forum.
It’s confusing here, because LRA tech in Anniversary Edition is different from Global 1940:
In Anniversary Edition it is 4+2 / 6+2 (based on the initial range), see your question regarding this subject in the other AA50 posting
( http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=20225.msg1125838#msg1125838 ).
In Global 1940 it is “All of your air units’ ranges are increased by 1 space.”
But I agree with Make_It_Round, that - concerning Global 1940 - this is an interesting question - maybe for Krieghund.
I was never a big fan of the unit bid. I posted years ago about bidding for NAs in revised. Also I wanted an option to play minor victory, which I think also helps the Axis. I used to like to play Classic with Restricted russia and Weapons Development Bonus. If this doesn’t eliminate a bid it should at least reduce it. I used to advocate for that option in the Axis & Allies Member’s Cluib (AAMC), but there wasn’t much interest.
Best of luck in your endeavors!
Alot of people played this way on the CD version (when those old gaming rooms were around).
