I think new bands play guitar like Mike Tyson speaks english.  Very Broken
They learn 4 or more open pos. chords and then play strum all six strings anyway.  :|

Rap started off with a powerful message but now that 80% of gangster rap is purchased by suburban white kids (that is an actual statistic, not me ranting) it doesn’t really have any meaning anymore. A suburban kid can’t even imagine what life in the inner city is like. Rappers aren’t individuals from the ghetto anymore, they live in splendor and also have no concept of how life in the inner city is like.

hip hop always sucked, and always will suck. Especially since hip hop artists take all the credit and don’t give any to their musicians.

Rock has been severely mutilated by pussy bands like Fall Out Boy, Blink 182 and Green Day. More emphasis is put on the singing than the instruments now, which has lead to every teenage girl from Connecticut to California starting to like rock bands because the singer is “hot”

Heavy Metal and Hard Rock is even better than before thanks to bands like Avenged Sevenfold, Atreyu, Godsmack, Breaking Benjamin, and Red.

Good rap has existed since its creation (See: GZA and the rest of Wu-Tang, The Coup, Ded Prez, Mos Def, The Fugees, The Roots, Busdriver, Talib Kweli), it’s just not played on radio stations.

Honestly, record labels have always been the cause for bad music.  There’s plenty of good music today, you just have to dig to find it.

Rap would be the biggest detriment to modern music.  Modern R&B has NOTHING to do with classic R&B.

And Pop has again been dragged into oblivion, perhaps even more severely than it was during Disco.

The ‘rap’ you’re referring to shouldnt even be called rap, its stupid mall-rap that is directly sold to suburban white kids (like said before).  Its just pop under a different name.  Some of the rappers Ive listed above have actually made good music and have artistic integrity.

Again: there’s plenty of good music today, you just have to dig to find it.

dont forget Jurassic Five or a tribe called quest.

Yeah, sounds good, but I kind of feel like some of those are on the cusp of the 80’s (GNR, Pixies, RHCP, etc.)

I hope you aren’t saying those peeps were at the creation.  Very good either way.  The GZA is just a musical genius, yet many people won’t even recognize it because they will never give him a chance.  RIP ODB/Dirt McGirt/Big Baby Jesus.  :lol:

Have to agree with balung on Tribe, probably the best hip hop group I’ve ever heard.  Also, the Pharcyde, De La Soul, Digable Planets, etc.

And if we are going to bring up Punk, Fear and the Plasmatics are missing as well. Black Flag got mentioned but I will bring them up again.

Krocus did some good stuff in the '80s. Accept also did some of their best stuff then as well. And least I forget Hawkwind had some good LPs in the '80s but I have yet to hear a bad one from them.
