Rules clarification

Is it just me or does it bother anybody else that the Expanded Rules cover is not stapled to the actual book? And on the back cover they included Greece as an ally but not Hungary as an Axis. Also the sign for Poland is not the same as that of the one on the Stat Card. Its the little things that drive me nuts!

Does this mean that each attack is set up completely seperately?  Is there no way to combine fire against one opponent?

Rules clarification time for me in this made up scenario:

Lets say my opponent has an M26 Pershing tank with armor 7/6 and Superior Armor 2.

I have a Messerschmitt Me 110 w/ an attack on vehicles of 5 at short range and 4 at medium range;
three Mauser Kar 98ks with attacks of 2 at short range and one SS Stormstrooper with an attack of 8 since he is at 0 range;
and one Pak 38 artillery piece with attacks of 11/9/7 respectively.

How can I attack the tank?

Is the plane completely useless?  The best he could do in his phase is 5 sucssess, but that won’t do anything on it’s own.  Are the three Kar 98ks inefective as well, since they could individually only have 2 sucssess?  Even the Stormtrooper at his best could only disrupt the tank with 7 or 8 sucssess.  And the Pak 38 would have to have a tremendous shot even at close range just to touch the Pershing.

Is this correct?

Excellent question.  I do not have any historical evidence of widespread tank vs. tank ramming, and I don’t really expect that it went on.  I included the rule more for sake of gameplay with non-armored vehicles (jeeps, halftracks, etc.) The rule represents a sort of last ditch option available to a player with nothing left but jeeps who is trying to face down a tank.  I’ve people ask to be able to ram on a number of occasions, so I decided to come up with a rule for it.  The attack itself is pretty anemic (need 6’s to hit) so I can’t think of why a tank would ever choose to ram another vehicle instead of using it’s short/medium range armor attack roll instead.  Now a jeep, on the other hand, really wouldn’t have any other attack against a light tank.  With the ram you might be able to damage a tank, but you are certainly going to destroy your jeep trying.  Let me know if you end up using the rule and if it works for you or not.

1. On stacking limits in a two player game you’re correct - 4 Units total. Only 2 units per player, and only 1 of the 4 can be a vehicle (whether it’s a Jeep or a King Tiger doesn’t matter). However in multiplayer games it may work a bit differently.

2. Units never block line of sight.

3. Hills are basically no different from forests - they don’t give you any extra vision on their own (though some units can benefit from them because of SAs, like the Nashorn); the only difference is vehicles have to make a movement roll into the forest. That’s it. AH/WotC kept the rules fairly simple so no extra LOS mechanics.

4. You can move into a hex with an enemy unit, but doing so provokes defencive fire, as GrimJesta states. However remember disrupted units can’t defencive fire either. Defencive Fire is provoked if a unit moves from an adjacent hex to another adjacent hex (note moving out of an adjacent hex does not provoke defencive fire). The defencive firing unit can decide which hex to make the attack in. Roll the attack normally, but if you would score 1+ hits you simply cause an immediate disruption instead, causing the provoking unit to stop in that hex and end its movement.  If the hex the provoking unit is being attacked in provides cover, then the unit rolls; if successful then the provoking unit isn’t disrupted and continues on. Each unit can make one defencive fire attack per phase, so a standard tactic is to move in first with a less threatening unit to draw fire.

5. You can’t die from defencive fire unless it was caused by a flamethrower; the three 6’s effect still applies. Except for units which are immediately destroyed (death by flamethrower, or a Carro Armato going up) the effects of damaged/destroyed/etc aren’t applied until the casualty phase after both players have made their attacks.

LOL, you got me there, but heroes say on the card that they are one per army.

I think my confusion came in because I thought that it wasn’t on the card that they did it as a correction. I don’t play the land minis but still tend to glance through the forum here and at AH and it can be a lot of information.
